Summer Transfer Window 2021

I suspect £10m won't be the maximum, it'll more likely be the average. When talking about the sort of signings we will make Ralph referenced KWP and Diallo who both went for ~£15m. My ideal three signings would be Henry, Danjuma, and Ings contract renewal. Beyond that, even if Vest left, I'd be reasonably happy. Get some depth options in and we have a good summer. I don't think CM will be that important personally with Armstrong being able to adapt there. If JWP or Romeu get injured then Diallo can step up or Armstrong can drop back and we can play Djenepo next to Danjuma.

Update on Olise and others. Had a really good chat with someone high up at Reading and a few snippets below:

We remain interested along with a few other PL clubs. They have a bid on the table from one of the promoted clubs (my guess is Watford) but that's nowhere near money they are looking for.

Contract offer on the table from RFC to make him one of highest earners (helps that Aluko's £50k a week contract is up!) But club not confident he'll sign and they've told him a decision needs to be made this summer (either sign new deal or leave).

His parents and agent are very vocal about his potential and I get the impression the relationship between RFC/parents isn't the best. The club feel he changes his mind often and wouldn't be surprised if he spends about 2 seasons at clubs before moving on; he's set to switch international allegiance from France, but not to England.

The feeling from within RFC is that, whilst we like him, others are hotter on him than we are. Interestingly we nearly signed him when he was 16, he got released from Chelsea but decided to stay closer to home with RFC.

On another note, we seem to be "almost impossible" to beat when it comes to signing young talent around North Hants/Thames Valley region, especially with the younger players and we're being very aggressive with recruitment, which adds to their annoyance as we beat them to signing Chauke and pinched Diamond Edwards off them.

Cheers for the update.
Sounds a bit like like us & Eze.  We allegedly liked him, but the budget didn’t stretch, as we had other positions to prioritise.

It depends on the interpretation of this i think.

Is it a player who was/is a 20/15mil player in the normal climate now worth 10mil cos his club are skint and need money

Or are we only looking at players who are 10mil under because of the exposure and age etc.

Either way I'm an optimist and we'll get what we need.

we never do.

Is that “very far away from” a replacement... or “very far down the line”?

I’m pretty sure we can take a stab in the dark at which one... 😬

Very far down the line. It was more obvious in the presser I thought. Unfortunately this probably means not Rico Henry as I can't imagine we will have moved very far at all before knowing if they will be promoted or not.

So he meant very far down the line as in very close, not very far as in miles away from?

He's also eligible for Algeria via his mother so it could be those. Lots of interest internationally given the year he's had.

Not a problem on the info, the academy stuff sounds promising.

That was really interesting, thanks.

I wouldn't read too much into it, at this stage of last season we were in advanced discussions and 'about to sign, before the season ended' the right back from Gronigen  (Zeefuik or whatever) but that rumbled on until he eventually got his move to Hertha Berlin. After which we signed KWP.

I can't remember where or saw it or who said it, but I read somewhere (not on here) that we're struggling against Brighton for talent?

Apparently they're muscling in on a lot of our youth targets or something.

I'd rather we keep our best keeper.

Matter of opinion as to whether he is our best keeper, both are capable of a good save or block one minute and a howler.

I'd rather see an upgrade on him/them (but as you'll probably be quick to point out we can't afford it...).

This rumour popped up last summer too, and amounted to nothing - as it most likely will this summer.

I can't believe for one minute that our recruitment team haven't noted his absolute unsuitability to Hasenhuttl's playing style. Loftus-Cheek is a good player on the ball, but he simply cannot press out of possession. It's not that the lad doesn't try, but he's just got no engine, never has had. He's a stroller. If you make him run, he's out on his feet in less than an hour.

I'd be amazed if there's anything in this. We've only got room for two PL loans - we're not wasting one on this guy.

The player we should have signed on loan, rather than Theo.

Will add a touch of creativity and class to our midfield, something were lacking.

Won’t be cheap, but a try before you buy there’s little to no risk.

Remember, a lot turned their nose up at lingard and look how he’s done in the right environment.

A big yes from me.

100% agree - worth also remembering he's also got a pretty patchy injury record too. I can't believe there is anything in this one (apart from some lazy journalism)

What’s funny about this is that we were 100% absolutely interested in him.  Ralph said this in the embargoed press conference for the Fulham match.

You're right - that is funny. Didn't know that.

The mind boggles. He's not a player that makes any sense for us.

(Guaranteed man of the match performance this afternoon in a Fulham stroll now...)

RLC has been pretty underwhelming for Fulham but they have been playing him quite high up in an attacking role. Maybe we feel we can convert him into a 6 and play him next to JWP, Romeu or Diallo. As others have said, doesn't have much of an engine so don't have much hope.

Loftus-Cheek doesn’t suit our playing style at all, but on his day can be a good player, as he’s shown earlier in his Chelsea career, some England appearances and did well at Palace (stood out probably due to quality around him).
JWP won’t be pleased to have to run an extra 30% in matches to accommodate him though!
