Nothing happening then? Not even a decent rumour around?

I certainly wasn't expecting anything tbf.

We have 2 players for every position assuming Armstrong can cover No. 6 in case of an injury, and we have Livramento/KWP/Perraud/Small to cover fullback (+ potentially Valery), plus Redmond/Tella/Elyounoussi/Djenepo/Walcott to cover the wide no. 10s (plus S. Armstrong)

Whether that is good enough is another question, but Ralph seems happy so he needs to deliver.

Not sure we should even bother turning the lights on at Staplewood today.

(However Saints - surprise me!)

I guess that gives us another option wide right, as well as right back. We made the mistake last window of loaning out players at the last min, thus leaving us with no cover. Think we've learnt our lessons.

We've got enough in front of Valery in that he shouldn't be required that often, but it's nice to have further options beyond the obvious, otherwise we'd have to pull apart midfield and shoe-horn again. And we don't have enough in midfield to weaken that area.

This is also probably an admission that we're not getting that number 6.

Just saw Haaland at Rownhams services. Make of that what you will.

Haaland would probably strengthen us, he would complement either Armstrong or Adams.  I'd assume he'd be a bit too expensive though?

Ralph mentioned in his press conference before the United game he's still keen on another 6.

I wouldn't be surprised to see one more in today.

Long & Obafemi out on loan to the championship.

Does seem well set up for a potential Veerman bid. Time will tell...

No way our budget can stretch to another 6 players....

Reading have a 8.5k a week wages cap on new players so that's unlikely

Reading are paying £8.5k a week whilst Chelsea pay £111,500 a week?

Blimey. That's a deal and a half.

I was hoping for some competition for Romeu. Were the club not rummaging around in the French market for late/last day deals?

Sod's law he'll be injured just after the window closes. I know Ralph has said others can play in this role, and perhaps Lyanco could step up into it but otherwise we lack a physical presence and ball winner

Wiltshire training with Como. Low end Serie B club. Nice place though, I'd happily live there.

Apparently Dennis Wise is their technical director so that's how he's ended up there.

Tom leach was said this on the matter...

Q: Is Lyanco the number six that Hasenhuttl was referring to?

No, Lyanco is a central defender and while he has played in central midfield before I am told not to expect him in that position for Saints.

Just on Lyanco, his signing will require some patience. Despite being billed as Jannik Vestergaard's replacement, Mohamed Salisu is really the man who will replace Vestergaard this season.

Lyanco can be thought of as Salisu's replacement, if you will, as the Ghanaian steps up from third choice to first choice.

That's really stupid if true. Stephens first choice all season is not the answer.

Nor would I, and I'm not giving birth to anyone's child.

Not sure what she's moaning about, another of those ultra needy women by the looks of it. You can't even tell the difference.

At least it's still by the sea.

If we’re to believe in global warming and rising sea levels, then so will Birmingham in the near future...

I know this is a statement of the bleedin' obvious, but ....

As we are looking only for a backup #6 who won't be asked to play regularly or demand a huge salary (unlike that Martin Cacares deal), I guess we need to look at a young up'n'coming who will be grateful for any games they get, OR an experienced guy winding down their career and wouldn't want to play every week.

I'm thinking that may be why we aren't pushing for Caleta-Car or AMN, as they are a different profile.

I would have suggested a low wage offer for Drinkwater, but he went to Reading. Not sure who else would fit the profile.

Wouldn't touch Drinkwater. Veerman would be my choice for a cheaper backup. Diallo has quality though so I'm not too worried, I think by the end of the season he will be our starting CM next to JWP

Not sure there was when we signed Ings either...heres hoping...

Ings was linked with us during that summer, although granted it went quiet for a bit before the last day.

Walcott did come out of nowhere (as did Toby and Mane etc).

Until Blackmore says something like "no more business" I remain stupidly hopeful (for a Danso-esque back up midfielder and Obafemi to Blackburn)

Matt Grimes from Swansea - age 26, a CM/CDM, left footed, can also play AM.  And as he there captain he would probably give some on field leadership as well.  1 year left on his contract.  We could probably get him for £4M

Disagree.  We have four centre backs.  Salisu is IMO first choice for left sided role, Stephens and Bednarek are in a battle for the right sided role.  Stephens has the shirt at the moment, so Bendarek is going to have to fight for it.  The competition should push them both to perform better.  Lyanco has to prove himself and if he does he competes for a place.

We needed to sign a CB that would improve us, not a backup to Stephens. Stephens is not an improvement on Vestergaard therefore our central defensive positions are overall weaker than last year. The signing of Lyanco is of pivotal importance to our season and assuming we don't sign anyone for defensive midfield it's probably our most vital area of the pitch that may be the difference between survival and relegation.

That sounds like exactly what we need. Seems unlikely though.

Wasn't there a transfer window recently where everyone said no I comings and then the club bought someone in anyway after that?

I think the point is we should have prioritised replacing our front line, clear number 1 choice CB with a first choice CB - like when we signed Van Dijk (£13m) or Lovren (£8m).

What we didn't need is to sign someone who has to "prove himself" to get ahead of Jack bloody Stephens.

So you expected Vestergaard replacement to replace him and Stephens? One man to replace two doesn't work.
