Was a bit nervous after all the "he prefers Palace" stuff but he should know that this is a decent move for him and a good signing for us.

Plus, some cash to spend elsewhere.

All good, well done Saints.

No not at all. He’s probably as good as we could get/afford but he will take a bit of polishing and patience. He needs to be more aware of others in better positions.
I am basically pleased though.

An interesting dynamic to Ings leaving and Armstrong arriving is how it trusts Adams as our senior striker.  I often felt that when Adams didn't have Ings as his partner he stepped up in his all round game (leading the line, holding the ball up etc.).  There is definitely more to come from Adams and I wonder if the need for him to step up will now suit him.

Agree, there was a point after Ings' first injury last season the Che looked immense.

Yeah and also whats all this nonsense about needing 4 chances for every goal scored. He didn't miss a single chance in that vid..............

His expected goals from last season was 27.74 (info goals), and he scored 28. This doesn't suggests he needs 4 chances to score a goal? 😉🙄

Also, in response to the posts about his poor 1 on 1 finishing, his highlight real for last season included plenty of 1 on 1 goals, either lobs or placed shots 👌

And also, he scores 28 goals... but needs 4 chances to score a goal...? Just not good enough!

😅🙄🤔

Doesn’t make much sense that. Unless there were 2 separate deals agreed, one with Obafemi and one without…

Dont see why we’d sell Obafemi to anyone else, if it costs us money, surely we’d just stick the additional on the Obafemi fee?

Would it be something to do with a sell on clause to NUFC??

We should have signed one of those genuinely good strikers who scored 56 goals in the Championship last season.

An easy win to improve the squad/starting 11 would be a new GK, really puzzles me why that isn't higher up our priorities list.

A lot of focus on replacing Ings' goals, which of course is important - but if we cut down the amount we conceded by say, 15, then surely that would be an easier solution to help bridge the gap.

Would be great if we could find our 'Dawson / Evans' style signing at CB, think that would majorly help out. Delaney at CM would be great too. All for signing excellent young talents, but have to be offset by some experience too.

No idea why we didn’t go in for Areola. The hammers got him on a loan with an option to buy. He was a shining jewel the the steaming pile of muck that was Fulham’s campaign last season.

Aren’t Fraser/Alex also both in last years of their respective contracts? And wasn’t wasn’t talk of Forster refusing a new deal a couple of weeks ago too? Albeit rumours…

Would’ve made a lot of sense to me to sell him to the Glaswegians and bring in a new younger long term option…

I think Areola's reported £150k-a-week wage would have put him out of our budget.

Maybe Obafemi doesn't want to go there.

I guess it depends on how much he wants to play? We could effectively force him to go there by rejecting all other approaches.

Personally, I’d tie him up to a new deal if possible and send him on loan.

I think there is a player in there.

Nixon seems to suggest that he’ll go on a free if he goes there, or the Armstrong deal will be adjusted to £21m…

Hes adamant though, despite no one else agreeing with him all day.

When are we going to find a home for that Irish, guitar playing, grey beard of a "striker" who used to leap like a salmon and is now coasting along with  the contract extension given by wee Ross Wilson?

Really hope that is true. Don’t trust Villa. Personally hoping for decent keeper (no chance) and commanding CB. Oh and a decent  Cdm

Considering the loss of Ings and the fact that JWP's consistency means he's unlikely to suddenly drop in value over the next 12 months, I expect the club will ensure he stays unless we receive a gigasmic offer, something north of 60 I'd have thought.

There are dozens of them. One of them said that he'd get a Birmingham City tattoo on his fist if Smith-Rowe didn't sign by the end of the week (about a month ago) he was that convinced. When it doesn't happen they just say "guess we didn't want him, or he would have joined" and move on to insisting another guy is on the verge of joining. Villa twitter are a bunch of utterly desperate nutters. I mean, all twitter is, but they are the worst I've ever seen.

I just can't see it personally. Villa seem to have blown their load anyway, all their signings seemed to be rushed in to soften the blow of Grealish leaving.

Even if we consider he might want to join or at least listen to how much money they want to throw at him, I can't see them coming up with the £50 million plus fee we'd need to even think about it and I reckon this late in the window we would want all that up front as well.

Yep, it was interesting reading the thread ( I dont follow Villa on twitter it just came up due to a Saints fan link)like on here , there are complete tools and then the fair minded ones, who pointed out how they didnt like the rumours when it was about Grealish all the time and not to disrespect our club.

Even their local paper BirminghamLive is similar!

Birmingham as an area has diseases localised to the area much worse than Covid, perhaps 2nd to the city of Liverpool.

I actually am based just outside Birmingham at the moment and most of the people are lovely. I have a lot of Villa fans on my football team and they are a very pleasant and humble bunch. The internet just seems to bring out the worst in people.

Lets be honest, every club has a percentage of bellends. Its just human nature

I see gk mentioned above…am I the only one worried we haven’t solved our defence and GK problem. This is our main threat to this season. We are going to need to score plenty unless a miracle has happened to our defence coaching and strategy

Yeah exactly. I think Villa's bellends are feeling especially riled up and noisy as Grealish leaving has reminded them they are not a massive club, which I think overhype from last season was making them think. Now they are pissy and need to deflect.
