Arizona Posted 23 January, 2009 Share Posted 23 January, 2009 Erm, Dowie? I was actually refering to last season when Burley left and Crouch replaced him with the Tesco own-brand, cheap, in house design and things went from bad to worse. Not saying any of them are a good choice for a manager.
saintwarwick Posted 23 January, 2009 Share Posted 23 January, 2009 Portvliet = Sturrock Wotte = Wigley Will this **** never learn. Much depends on whether (for the 3rd time) he's going to make the same mistake again, or if Wotte is just a caretaker, before getting someone more suited to the job steps in. We wait in vain... I don't know how you can compare the two, Sturrock was not given a chance imo and had a good record for us, 5 wins from 13 games with a win rate of 38.5% in the premiership. Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 23 January, 2009 Share Posted 23 January, 2009 It'll be interesting to see whether Jan gets the chance to have his say. I just hope it's not all tied up to a compo payment, which means we'll get the usual drivel of how it was just time to go and Mr Lowe has definitely really not ever, ever, not once, ever interfered with the playing side. LGTL Posted 23 January, 2009 Share Posted 23 January, 2009 So, Lowe thinks of a grand dutch scheme. The scheme has clearly failed, so asks JP to "resign" as to not draw attention to the fact that Rupert was wrong, again.

SW11_Saint Posted 23 January, 2009 Share Posted 23 January, 2009 "Mark Wotte has been asked by the board to take over as Head Coach, and he will now take charge of the team for Tuesday's trip to Norwich". Okay, clutching at staws now, but the language is rather ambiguous... you can interprete it either way - he's permanent, or he's just head coach for Norwich. Could our board actually be waiting for the fan reaction to gauge whether they should make him permanent or not?? Nah, thought not...

saintwarwick Posted 23 January, 2009 Share Posted 23 January, 2009 The only possible reason that Wotte would be appointed permanently is that Lowe knows hes not here much longer so is getting his revenge in to us supporters or Administration is round the corner. Can be no other reason. I know Lowe is one of the most unpopular choices around for us fans but you really are an idiot for thinking this.

St Landrew Posted 23 January, 2009 Share Posted 23 January, 2009 Feel sorry for JP. Never stood a chance with what he had, but he wrongly believed he could do something, and took a few of us with him for a while. It's a tough job eventually learning that you've been shafted from the moment you took the job on. Typically, the club promotes from within, which would be a great policy if the scenario was an ultra successful one, but clearly this will be more of the same thing. Wotte is being shafted as I write. I hope he knows it. If the Board think they've done the right thing today, then each one of them needs medical attention. Can the Board now properly seek a takeover please, because the fans are heartily sick..? Quite simply - we've had enough.

Bailey Posted 23 January, 2009 Share Posted 23 January, 2009 A tad surprised at the timing, as I thought Jan might have handed in his notice after the Doncaster game. Having said that, I'm not surprised he has gone as he strikes me as a people person, and when the fans turn against him, I always felt he might call it a day. On the other hand, maybe he was pushed by Lowe? Perhaps Lowe thought this move would get some fans back on side? Potentially it could have worked, but by appointing Wotte straight away, it won't work out like that! Lowe never seems to learn. With JP going, it was the perfect chance for a fresh start with a new man coming in. However, I fear it's going to be a case of as you were. To conclude, I would just like to say I did feel a tad sorry for Jan. Slightly out of his depths perhaps and took on an almost impossible task. I don't doubt him as a coach, but it can't have been easy having to work under such circumstances. A very decent bloke, but unfortunately that doesn't get you results on the pitch. I wish him all the best though.

Norm Posted 23 January, 2009 Share Posted 23 January, 2009 Jan will have resigned because he's been told players have got to be sold and he wouldn't be allowed to bring in any new ones. It's absolutely disgusting and you couldn't make it up, or the timing. Titanic is well and truly doomed, split in two with one end going down in one direction and the other end going down in the other. I really think there is something in the above post. One of two things come to my mind (as daft as they might be), 1, we are so close to administration that we have to sell our best players and JP saw his job as spitting into the wind or 2, new owners are due in shortly and want to bring in a new manager. OK, it's daft.

I'm almost beginning to want the club to fold rather than have this lot in charge. My love of Saints is set in the past. I can walk away because my first love is Sailing. supaimpy_returns Posted 23 January, 2009 Share Posted 23 January, 2009 What will be the most interesting part in this new chapter will the players response. How do they react to Wotte in training? If as has been suggested in the past that players have problems with the coaching staff , see the previous story on Hockaday and the rumour of Wotton falling out with the coaches, Skacel's revelations, the leaking of Euells wages, which all seem to show that behind the scenes all is not happy, the meeting that was apparently normal practise on Monday but by Friday Jan's had enough? I can see the press conference now, L*** will walk in because Wilde (SFC Chairman) will be unavailable and he'll hold up Jans letter of resignation , then he'll blame the fans or rather the lunatic fringe. We need a clean sweep but its been left too long the transfer window will be closing, the players must be sat tonight next to their phones hoping its their agent and a get out of SMS call. Still if the article that appeared in the national press regarding administration is to be believed then Wotte may only be here until the third week in March, but hopefully he's only here for the Norwich game and won't get time to swap desks with Jan. Jan , all the best, you tried as you saw best unfortunately its a poison chalice handed to you by L*** , just join the list of managers or ex SFC staff to sign a non disclosure agreement!
