Erm, Dowie?

I was actually refering to last season when Burley left and Crouch replaced him with the Tesco own-brand, cheap, in house design and things went from bad to worse.

Not saying any of them are a good choice for a manager.

Portvliet = Sturrock

Wotte = Wigley

Will this **** never learn. Much depends on whether (for the 3rd time) he's going to make the same mistake again, or if Wotte is just a caretaker, before getting someone more suited to the job steps in. We wait in vain...

I don't know how you can compare the two, Sturrock was not given a chance imo and had a good record for us, 5 wins from 13 games with a win rate of 38.5% in the premiership.

It'll be interesting to see whether Jan gets the chance to have his say. I just hope it's not all tied up to a compo payment, which means we'll get the usual drivel of how it was just time to go and Mr Lowe has definitely really not ever, ever, not once, ever interfered with the playing side.

So, Lowe thinks of a grand dutch scheme. The scheme has clearly failed, so asks JP to "resign" as to not draw attention to the fact that Rupert was wrong, again.

"Mark Wotte has been asked by the board to take over as Head Coach, and he will now take charge of the team for Tuesday's trip to Norwich".

Okay, clutching at staws now, but the language is rather ambiguous... you can interprete it either way - he's permanent, or he's just head coach for Norwich.

Could our board actually be waiting for the fan reaction to gauge whether they should make him permanent or not??

Nah, thought not...

I originally said this will be our 8th manager in 5 years. I meant 11th in 5 years because even I forgot with this Lowe/manager hierarchy that we had Wigley, Sturrock and then Wigley again before Harry arrived from down the road!

silly me:confused:

The only possible reason that Wotte would be appointed permanently is that Lowe knows hes not here much longer so is getting his revenge in to us supporters or Administration is round the corner. Can be no other reason.

I know Lowe is one of the most unpopular choices around for us fans but you really are an idiot for thinking this.

Iain Dowie? Connection with the club and hopefully wouldnt try to get big wages. TBH though cant see many managers wanting to apply for a job with Lowe as boss and the club in the state its in.

Posted
But it says that Wotte has taken over as Head Coach, and nothing about it being temporary. So one joker for another.

Question is, if Wotte wasnt good enough to be manager first time up e.g less suitable than JP what makes him more suitable long term now?

Posted
Those who intended to protest, must continue. One down two to go

Lowe and Wilde out

correct - you appointed him lowe - another failure - when the hell are you going to realise that you are not bigger than this club AND WALK

the club should then appoint a "proper" manager and then we will see the Spirit of Southampton return

the sooner the better

Another sad day in the life of saints

Rockandrollman said Now lets get rid of Wotte and all the other Dutch people Lowe brought in. what a knob.

in the interim.

It dosent matter who is in charge some clever geezer shouts x , y and Z out.

Plus have a look at this especially the relegation bit great eh..

Sources say Wotte was unpopular at Feyenoord and some at the club were happy to see him go. He has been blamed for their failings, with many of the players he has brought in not living up to expectation. Wotte is not regarded as a coach of any great ability but will fit into the structure planned by Lowe and Woodward.

So we have lost two coaches this week, Hockaday and JP so Wotte is taking over from JP so who is taking over from Wotte and Hockaday.

Gerry Cottle or Billy Smart I would think, whichever circus rolls into town first.

You were right the first time in that this is 8 managers in 5 years if you include Wigley twice.

Feel sorry for JP. Never stood a chance with what he had, but he wrongly believed he could do something, and took a few of us with him for a while. It's a tough job eventually learning that you've been shafted from the moment you took the job on. Typically, the club promotes from within, which would be a great policy if the scenario was an ultra successful one, but clearly this will be more of the same thing. Wotte is being shafted as I write. I hope he knows it. If the Board think they've done the right thing today, then each one of them needs medical attention.

Can the Board now properly seek a takeover please, because the fans are heartily sick..? Quite simply - we've had enough.

Lowe has now put the nail in the coffin. He's set on administration otherwise he'd have made Wotte temporary not permanent.

The best thing Lowe could make permanent is his absence from SMS.

Le Tiss said on SSN that Sturrock wasnt forced out by Lowe and Lowe wanted him to stay on but couldnt convince him too. Said he couldn't cope with the pressure of the Prem.

Made me think again about a few things.

A tad surprised at the timing, as I thought Jan might have handed in his notice after the Doncaster game. Having said that, I'm not surprised he has gone as he strikes me as a people person, and when the fans turn against him, I always felt he might call it a day. On the other hand, maybe he was pushed by Lowe? Perhaps Lowe thought this move would get some fans back on side? Potentially it could have worked, but by appointing Wotte straight away, it won't work out like that!

Lowe never seems to learn. With JP going, it was the perfect chance for a fresh start with a new man coming in. However, I fear it's going to be a case of as you were. :(

To conclude, I would just like to say I did feel a tad sorry for Jan. Slightly out of his depths perhaps and took on an almost impossible task. I don't doubt him as a coach, but it can't have been easy having to work under such circumstances. A very decent bloke, but unfortunately that doesn't get you results on the pitch. I wish him all the best though.

Now correct me if im wrong, a company on the stock exchange LEGALLY have to advertise the role before appointing someone already employed by the same company as the departing employee?

Promoting from within in the past has been fatal and totally not needed as we have had the funds to be able to get better in. However this time our budgets would have been agreed with the banks and the fact that JP has stepped down will be like selling a player for 100k. that money will go into the over draft and wotte wont even get a pay rise for the job change. so although its the same story from the club this time I dont think they really have much choice.

Could be b0ll0cks but I was just told that we played a behind closed doors friendly against a Belgian side today and won 5-2 and Jan was in charge??

Personally I find it hard to beleive as we couldn't score 5 past a girls team.

Anyone heard any thing?

The first time Wotte was linked with Saints i asked a few Dutch people i worked with about him. Most of them just laughed and said he was a arrogant waste of space and good luck. Which totally ties in with what Fitzhugh is saying!!

God help us!!! I can only imagine this is all leading to a firesale of Davis, Surman, Lallana, Spiderman and anyone else they can sell. JP wasn't happy with that and so he was shown the door.

I don't disagree that we need a 'proper' manager but where is the money coming from considering we are skint and many on here are talking about administration.

Jan will have resigned because he's been told players have got to be sold and he wouldn't be allowed to bring in any new ones. It's absolutely disgusting and you couldn't make it up, or the timing. Titanic is well and truly doomed, split in two with one end going down in one direction and the other end going down in the other.

I really think there is something in the above post. One of two things come to my mind (as daft as they might be),

1, we are so close to administration that we have to sell our best players and JP saw his job as spitting into the wind

or

2, new owners are due in shortly and want to bring in a new manager.

OK, it's daft.

If they did it wasn't any of the teams in the Jupiler league (Belgian Premiership) as some are playing tonight and the rest tomorrow and Sunday. So if they did play a Belgian team it would have been a very **** one and thats saying something!!

And my conclusion is why bother changing at all..? This will undoubtedly be more of the same. The real change MUST be whole. I'm almost beginning to want the club to fold rather than have this lot in charge. My love of Saints is set in the past. I can walk away because my first love is Sailing. Ultimately, I could live without Saints, but for all fans who live and breathe the club, this must be truly sickening.

I guess it'd be rude to remind that we had a 'proper' manager before Lowe appointed JP...

Don't know the legal technicality of this but maybe the club did carry it out before announcing it on the OS.

Somebody else with enthusiasm, honesty, and integrity leaves the club - that leaves about 2 or 3 good 'uns to go eh Rupert

You had to go Jan, but all the best to you in the future.

What will be the most interesting part in this new chapter will the players response.

How do they react to Wotte in training?

If as has been suggested in the past that players have problems with the coaching staff , see the previous story on Hockaday and the rumour of Wotton falling out with the coaches, Skacel's revelations, the leaking of Euells wages, which all seem to show that behind the scenes all is not happy, the meeting that was apparently normal practise on Monday but by Friday Jan's had enough?

I can see the press conference now, L*** will walk in because Wilde (SFC Chairman) will be unavailable and he'll hold up Jans letter of resignation , then he'll blame the fans or rather the lunatic fringe.

We need a clean sweep but its been left too long the transfer window will be closing, the players must be sat tonight next to their phones hoping its their agent and a get out of SMS call.

Still if the article that appeared in the national press regarding administration is to be believed then Wotte may only be here until the third week in March, but hopefully he's only here for the Norwich game and won't get time to swap desks with Jan.

Jan , all the best, you tried as you saw best unfortunately its a poison chalice handed to you by L*** , just join the list of managers or ex SFC staff to sign a non disclosure agreement!
