saints_is_the_south Posted 23 January, 2009 Share Posted 23 January, 2009 Am I the only one seeing this? Look at what the OS statement says: "Mark Wotte has been asked by the Board to take over as Head Coach" (The OS) Where is the ambiguity (or the hope!)? He is a permanent successor. The moving of the deckchairs on the White Star Lines ocean vessel has begun... Thats changed in literally minutes! I swear about 2 mins ago it said Wotte will now take charge of Norwich, nothing about him being appointed head coach!!
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 23 January, 2009 Share Posted 23 January, 2009 funny timing but the right decision.....it has been coming. IMO this is actually bad news because Wotte will be an even bigger disaster. Trust me, he has a reputation that is disturbing and the talk of the football world - give me JP anytime. saint_bert Posted 23 January, 2009 Share Posted 23 January, 2009 +1! Weird timing i have to say, would have thought he would have done it either straight after Doncaster or after the meeting! Aslong as Wotte is only in charge for 1 game & we get a proper game in after that then fine. Feel slightly sorry for Jan, seemed a decent bloke but well out of his depth in England, let alone the Championship. Now Lowe & Wilde must follow Jan out of the club! Didnt take you long to get online lol
brmbrm Posted 23 January, 2009 Share Posted 23 January, 2009 F*kCiNg brilliant I reckon - one down, two to go. WOTTE OUT! LOWE OUT!!! This can only be a step in the right direction. A small step, but a step nonetheless.

Jesus Reigned Posted 23 January, 2009 Share Posted 23 January, 2009 If Wotte gets the job full-time it will be an even worse scenario than JP. He is despised by the players and has alleged serious personal flaws from what I am hearing from those in a position to know. Great.

Badger Posted 23 January, 2009 Share Posted 23 January, 2009 Timing is no surprise at all. The question is, will there be more change and what will be said at the press conference on Monday. Will be an interesting one Timing is ridiculous. They've had a week to make a decision and act in preparation for the next game on Tuesday which in laymans terms is now gives us one working day before the next fixture.(Assuming they are training on Monday, not travelling). Is the timing, late on a Friday in anyway influenced by the fact that tomorrows papers are already planned, full of big FA Cup features, therefore reducing exposure to ridicule ? Thanks Jan, safe journey. ps, before we all jump in with both feet and destroy his name, remember that he is not fully to blame for our mess. He was offered the job, took it and failed. We would have taken it, if offered. My point, he should NOT have been offered it in the first place! exactly right norm,a good man in the wrong place at the wrong time. good luck wherever you end up. JRM Posted 23 January, 2009 Share Posted 23 January, 2009 Sad really, Poortvliet was a top bloke, with a genuine approach, as seen in visits to pubs. A real shame that things never went right for him, no chance of Wotte turning things around, now lets see how much responsibility Lowe takes for this appointment in the continuing soap opera. glkdcdes Posted 23 January, 2009 Share Posted 23 January, 2009 Lowes filthy paw prints all over this. As negative as my opinion is of Lowe, Portvliet is a decent human being and i wish him well. I feel sorry that he was given the opportunity to become tangled up in the sess pit that Southampton has become under the scheming of Lowe. Cant wait for what web he is weaving for the press conference. One thing is certain. It will be Lowes verson and not the truth.

We would have taken it, if offered. My point, he should NOT have been offered it in the first place! Dead right, Norm. And let's not forget this (from his bio on the OS): He left Helmond Sports to join Southampton in May 2008 and even agreed to pay his own compensation which was settled by a tribunal. It's sickening how Rupert has this habit of taking (mis-selecting) a good man and crunching him into submission. John Smith Posted 23 January, 2009 Share Posted 23 January, 2009 So, if JP decided to leave off his own back, why did he decide to step down? Surely if he was doing really badly, I dunno, like 1 home win in 14, surely someone in Lowes position would've been man enough to say enough is enough. But no, Lowe just hands him the gun, turns his back and waits for the bang. Lowe is a coward and a Charlatan!

SW11_Saint Posted 23 January, 2009 Share Posted 23 January, 2009 Portvliet = Sturrock Wotte = Wigley Will this **** never learn. Much depends on whether (for the 3rd time) he's going to make the same mistake again, or if Wotte is just a caretaker, before getting someone more suited to the job steps in. We wait in vain... saint lard Posted 23 January, 2009 Share Posted 23 January, 2009 I do feel sorry for Jan,seems a fairly honest fella,he was hardly going to turn down the offer to manage Saints.limited funds, limited ability, under the ever watchful eye of lowe, if not taking direct orders reference team selection and the aquiring of new playing staff. Now the big worry,Wotte was always in Lowe's mind as the manager/coach,i can just see him appointed in tandem with Gorre.

Wotte = looks like the smarmy bastard you would not buy a used used car from, and a psychophant who has pandered to keeping in touch with Rupert for two years since he was originally overlooked for the top job.IF he was the capable one he should have been appointed rather than JP.
