Mike Dean - Can anyone remember him giving us a 50/50 decision ?

My first memory of him was in the FA Cup game vs Manure when we were in the Championship. We lost 4-0. He gave them a pen for handball when it hit David McGoldrick's armpit. He's been absolute wank in every single game i've seen him ref for us since. He is a hateful, egotistical little cunt of a man. A chicken farming, attention seeking slug.

Mike dean LOVES to be the centre of attention. He thinks he's a star up there with Man Utd, Liverpool and Spurs and looks down on clubs not in the top 6!

This is it. He's a fucking primadonna who wants to grab the headlines.

I cannot remember a single example of him awarding a contentious decision in our favour. He has no objectivity whatsoever and is unfit to be a PL referee.

I always remember a former ref, can’t recall his name, but years after retiring he said it was always better to get a top mark from a big club than a good mark from a smaller club.

That sums up Mike Dean

And well done Saints for making that request.

They should also be demoted to the sunday league, but then I wouldn't want them influencing those levels either.

They should just retire. They could get a cushty job like peter walton on BT Sport, sat in the warm co-commenting on premier league games. Then we can just mute them when they come on.

Yes, that wouldn’t be fair ion the Sunday leagues. That was where I used to flaunt my mistakes.

Ive also played in a lot of 9-0 defeats myself. Sometimes even worse than that.

Near future? Should be never.

Also serious questions should be asked of the FA that is clubs are forced to do this and have highlighted refs as being poor against them on a repeated basis then he is basically failing at his job and should be fired.

How the F is he an elite ref? he's terrible.

Elite referee for 20 years, 20 frigging years. He seems untouchable.

Waterlooville, so close enough.

My brother dated his daughter, circa 2010. The Styles lived in Denmead at the time.

I wrote this before the game:

You do realize how arrogant Mike Dean is? He is right and everybody else is wrong. He'll be looking to dish out more of the same. He's the worst referee we could possibly get against United because he always favours them. He'll do anything he can to ensure they win including wrongly dishing out red cards and penalties. He even got demoted to the Championship for doing so.

"Ex-players such as Niall Quinn and Alan Smith described Dean as ‘arrogant’ and ‘attention-seeking’, while ex-Ireland international, Stephen Hunt, claimed Dean was ‘the most arrogant person – player or official- that I ever shared a field with’.

Arsenal fans launched a petition to prevent Dean from refereeing another Gunners’ match. Although naturally doomed to failure, the petition raised over 100,000 signatures within a week.

Two years later Dean again had the humiliation of a decision of his being overturned retroactively by the FA. After just fifteen minutes of an Old Trafford clash between Manchester United and West Ham, the home side’s Phil Jones had a coming together with the Hammers’ Sofiane Feghouli.

To most neutral observers, Jones was the more likely of the two to have committed a foul, yet to the amazement of most, it was Feghouli who was shown the red card. That United went on to win the game 2-0 did not help matters, and not only was the red card overturned, but Dean was also demoted to a spell refereeing in the Championship."

Dean has awarded Man United EIGHTEEN penalties already. I'm pretty sure that must be the most penalties any referee has awarded to any team in the history of football and he'll certainly be looking to add to that total tomorrow night.

Everybody in football knows Mike Dean has it in for Southampton.

No, I’m afraid that is indicating advantage. It’s also a case of ‘look at me’ but most referees are pleased if they give advantage and it leads to a goal.

Correct. He addressed this on The Peter Crouch Podcast.

As much as I'd love to say it's evidence of corruption, he's done it quite a few times (in various matches) after giving advantages that lead directly to goals.

It was a joke, Nobody thinks he’s celebrating a goal.

"In January, Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo was fined £25,000 by the FA for criticising Mason after his side's defeat by Burnley.

Nuno said that Mason "is not good enough" to officiate at the top level."

Not much chance of the request succeeding then.

Unfortunately there are just too many dinosaur referees in the PL.

Its like a white middle class members club and I don’t know how many come through but just seems to be the same trash as Dean, Mason, Moss.  I like Mariner and I like Oliver. Bound to be some more but even the likens of Friend and Stott are corrupt to the top six.

Need a shake up and refresh and time for those overweight codgers to go and do one.

Mike Dean's stats speak for themselves. In 77 games he's awarded Man Utd 19 penalties and sent off 2 of their players with a straight red yet in 35 games for Southampton we've had 4 straight red sent off, and 5 penalties, (so we're 4 times more likely to have a player sent off and they're twice as likely to get a penalty).

For our 4 red cards under him, he's never sent off an opposition player and has awarded 9 penalties against us the 4 for us.

Tell me he's fair?

He has issued the most red cards of any referee. The question is not so much how many he himself has awarded to Man Utd but how he compares with other referees and how many penalties they have awarded to them.

Is that I'm a C**t Get Me Out of Here or I'm a Celeb? Wouldn't be right to hope something went wrong going into the jungle or during a BTT would it?

One problem is that they are self regulating (I think). Therefore they are of one mindset and that seems to be the letter of the Law. If their governing panel had independents sat on it, ex-players for example, then maybe we would get interpretations of the laws, the spirit if you like. The Matt Cash incident was a perfect example, yes the ball did touch his thigh before hitting his outstretched arm.  The law was never intended for the ball grazing off someone, it was for the ball to be deflected and deviated off it's path onto the hand. The referees are don't want to make their own interpretations (use common sense?) If they took advice from independents rather than other referees we may see some improvement. Don't get me started on the offside laws.........

Has anyone actually worked out yet what Part of Adams was offside.

Also how did they come to the conclusion from multiple looks at the video that Bednarek fouled Martial.

I think it was a piece of thread hanging from his shirt sleeve that was offside. If the final decision on the Bednarek/Martial episode fell to Dean to make, it was never going to be in Saints favour. I sat through the entire match with my Man U loving son-in-law 😝and even he was saying Martial had dived. I told him Dean would award a penalty and a red card, purely because it's Saints and he's a spiteful little git. Sure enough................
