Badger Posted 31 December, 2020 Share Posted 31 December, 2020 Just seen that he has died. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55501754 I remember he was very gracious in defeat in 1976. Was certainly one of the "characters" in the 1960's and 70's. RIP.
Lord Duckhunter Posted 31 December, 2020 Share Posted 31 December, 2020 RIP As you say, very respectful after ‘76. Saw him doing a couple of after dinner things, was a pretty funny guy.
spyinthesky Posted 31 December, 2020 Share Posted 31 December, 2020 I agree that he was always respectful about Saints performance in 1976 and a man with a lot of humour. That said, I can remember the chant...'Docherty shut your mouth 'cause the cup is coming south, la la la- la la-la la la that was sung on the terraces prior to the Cup Final. (wish I recount where the melody originated from)

Him are Lawrie, seemed like good mates. RIP
alehouseboys Posted 31 December, 2020 Share Posted 31 December, 2020 'The Doc', as said, gracious in defeat in '76, funny guy and infectious personality. RIP Played for Celtic, will no doubt be honoured at 'The Old Firm' this weekend (and on the 50 year anniversary of the 1971 Ibrox disaster - a moving documentary 'Stairway 13' available on iPlayer).
VectisSaint Posted 31 December, 2020 Share Posted 31 December, 2020 Sad day, an important part of our greatest day. Like others have said never had a bad word about us winning in 76. One of the huge manager characters of the 70s/80s. RIP Tommy Doc.
Tamesaint Posted 31 December, 2020 Share Posted 31 December, 2020 Thinking that things were better in the "good old days" is a sign of getting old but the Doc in my opinion was much more preferable to the likes of Pep, Jose and Klopp. Humorous when interviewed and gracious in defeat he was a good manager in less demanding times. Sad to see him go.

saintquin Posted 1 January, 2021 Share Posted 1 January, 2021 Presented me, among others, with a medal at the Top Rank in the late 70's. He was a funny man.
