hamster Posted 23 January, 2009 Share Posted 23 January, 2009 Anyone got a 'secret' recipe they'd care to share, no rubbish ones though like just adding Worcestershire Sauce to Bolognese please. Soemthing that I can impress Mrs H with
Colinjb Posted 23 January, 2009 Share Posted 23 January, 2009 (edited) My specialy is lemon chicken with pesto noodles. Dead simple but I find it dead tasty (And as a meal to cook for dates its been excellent.) Get the juice from two lemons and mixed it with some ground black pepper. Slice two checken breasts into medium sized strips and marinade the chicken in the juice for a few hours (5-6 should suffice) Gently pan fry the strips until lightly browned with the remained of the juice poured onto them just before they are done, once this has reduced off serve. Serve them on top of some noodles which have been mixed with some pesto, sliced cherry tomatoes and olives. Once the mixture has been heated through it's done. I also like to put some lightly boiled asparagus tips with it to top it off. Edited 23 January, 2009 by Colinjb

bungle Posted 23 January, 2009 Share Posted 23 January, 2009 I was looking at recipes on BBC website the other day and came across this! Now, I'm an awful cook, but honestly, would anyone need a recipe to tell them how to make that?! (Also, the meal would be very dry, needs beans IMO). Although, I try to avoid frying with olive oil, and oven cooked sauseages are much healthier aren't they? Also, chip shop chips are best, not the McCann's ones either. I found the alternative method to be best.

Crouchie's Lawyer Posted 23 January, 2009 Share Posted 23 January, 2009 TGI's JD Sauce... 1 Bulb of garlic 1 tsp olive oil 2/3 Cup of Water 1 Cup Pineapple Juice 1/4 Cup of Terriyaki Sauce (recipe calls for Kikkoman's which I just happened to have in but any will do) 1 tsp Soy Sauce 1 1/3 Cups of Brown Sugar 3 tsp Lemon Juice 3 tsp minced onion 1 tsp Jack Daniels Whisky 1 tsp crushed pineapple 1/4 tsp Cayenne Pepper. If you dont have a fresh garlic bulb use a large tsp of easy chopped garlic Cayenne pepper can be replaced by chilli powder if you want too. Cut top and tail off garlic bulb, remove some of the outer layer but stay together and roast in olive oil for 1 hour. Remove and cool so that you can handle it. Or use the large tsp of lazy chopped garlic. Combine, water, pineapple juice, teriyaki sauce, soy sauce nd brown sugar in a saucepan over a medium heat. Sir occasionally unitl mixture boils, then reduce heat to simmer. Add remaining ingredients to the pan and stir Squeeze out two tsp of garlic (if not using lazy) Let simmer for 35 -45 mins or until sauce has reduced by 1/2 and is syrupy. (This actually thickens considerably when cool, you can then put the rest in a pot and put it in the freezer) Use as you like, if adding to grilled meat, add at the end because the high sugar content could make it burn. enjoy
saint lard Posted 23 January, 2009 Share Posted 23 January, 2009 Always put chocolate in a Chilli con Carne.. Gaspacho soup.Ideal for the forthcoming summer...hopefully... Plunge some Tomatoes in boiling water, leave for 15 seconds maximum, place in iced water to refresh. Skin and de-seed them, place to one side. Peel and de-seed a cucumber, then chop. Plunge red peppers into boiling water or singe the skin under a grill, skin and de-seed and chop. Place all into a blender add sherry vinegar and some white wine vinegar salt and pepper to taste. Place the liquid into a deep tray, place slices of bread into the tray also, chill over night. Next day blend all together once more, the bread acts as the thickening agent. Season again to taste. Im afraid i cant remember the quantities of each item as i made it to order, but thats half the fun, experimenting. We used to serve the soup with warmed Langoustines and Courgette mouse, but dont i think you really need those. Enjoy, ideal with a Pimms.
