I was shocked hearing this as it didn't feel that long ago he was Villa manager, looked and it was 10 years ago! Sad really, he was out of the game for 3 years after Lyon, went to Villa for a year then nothing...probably knew then he wasn't up to it anymore but just wanted to feel the thrill of the game again.

RIP.

Had major heart problems years ago (while he was still at Liverpool I think), has been head of global football for Red Bull for the last 8 years, still closely involved with football but on a broader scale, had just taken on the role of technical director for Olympic Lyon women's team as well. Probably had dealings with Ralph when he was at RB Leipzig. Always came across as a nice bloke, not Liverpool manager mould at all.

Going by that, let's hope he was happy and fulfilled right to the end.

Was it not Houllier who had some sort of infarction during a game and was taken to hospital?
