The last 38 Premier League games = 64 points for Saints

For anyone (TV/radio pundit or otherwise) that thinks Southampton can't sustain their form over 38 games. In their last 38 Premier League games (straddling this season and last) - Southampton have picked up 64 points! That would have been enough for 5th last season. 😎

This clearly isn't a short term run of good form. It is sustained over a very long sample period. No fluke purple patch at St Mary's.

As opposed to few at home. Keep the away form going and improve the home form and we are really pressing for 3rd or 4th?

From the last 38 games we got 29 points from home matches and 35 from away matches so not a huge difference.

Considering the squad at our disposal, the job that Ralph, the coaching staff and the S&C team have done is remarkable.

Obviously the players have really bought in to the philosophy too and you can certainly see that the new signings are adding too. If we can be around the Champions League places in March, I may start to believe

On the other hand, we might do a Boscombe and completely fuck up the rest of the season.

I don’t think we will, but I’ll still be relieved when we hit that 40 point mark.

Well I'll still be looking over my shoulder until we bag 40. That we're halfway there with still another 8 games until the mid-point of the season is very encouraging - given that we've fought relegation in the main for the last 3 years.

I'd be prepared to unclench at around 30 if we could get there by the end of January.

It's been an incredible run really, credit to everyone. It's just a shame this hasn't run over an entire season, because our finishing positions aren't being reflected in our form.

Can we extend this form to 50 odd games....? That's the big ask. You get no real plaudits going on runs at the end of a season and the start of the next if you start falling away at the end.

We've clearly become a decent PL team again though, not a fly by night purple patch. Definitely no risk of relegation, first time I can say that with confidence in a good few years. We won't be anywhere near.

Makes you wonder and fear what will happen to us when Ralph tires of England and seeks a new challenge. We will never see his like again here, he is by far and away the most intelligent, systematic and informed football manager we have had ever at Saints and quite possibly in the Premier League.

Long may he reign. Please send his family lots of bunches of red roses this Christmas to make them feel this is their home!

That’s a joke, right?

It's certainly been great and a great start to the season but I presume we will have a dip at some point, especially with the squeezed schedule this year. Also we are only 3 points above a (IMO) very poor Newcastle team, it's very tight in the middle with only 4 points between 13th and 5th.

By the end of the day we could be 6 above them and only 1 point from top after a dozen games. I'm sure we'll have a few weeks where we will struggle but so will others.

If we carry on as we have been over the last 38 games I'd be happy!
