Think the current Man Utd differs in one essential way from previous versions- their Manager doesn’t know how to mould them into a team. Yet. That’s quite the opposite to Saints under Ralph and hopefully it will make the difference. Unchanged side as Redmond is still out, but I hope Djenepo is able to do more than his headless chicken act.

2-1 Saints.

Not entirely sure I agree, they have a very clear game plan - get it to the forwards in the box and go over at the slightest touch, win a penalty. I'm not even trying to be condescending, that is literally their main plan and has been evident since Ole came in.

The big difference in form is that Fernandes came in who can:

a) feed the forwards better
b) fall over in the box himself and
c) bury the penalties, whereas before Rashford, Pogba and Martial were taking turns to miss them.

Has to be the least confident I've ever seen a Man Utd pre-match thread against us.

There's good reason for that of course, difficult game to call, but we'll have a very good chance of the win as long as we don't have an off-day.

It’s Man Utd, we always play really well against them. Apart from a period of about six seconds when we completely forget to mark Yorke, Van Nistelrooy, Owen, Zlatan, Lukaku, Martial or some other apex predator of European football.

We haven't lost since 20th sept, we look cohesive and dangerous and only seem to be getting better.

Man u defends like the Maginot line, static and unable to deal with movement, their forwards will be starved of the ball.

2-0 us

Can't see us getting anything without Ings. Utd have a clueless manager but still enough quality. 3-1 Utd (Fernandes pen 22, 56, Rashford 31, Adams 82)

That's a very specific prediction. If you're right I'll eat my hat send you money to buy me a lottery ticket.

With a week's good training behind us, Bertie and JWP more match fit and Djenepo & Armstrong back on song after their wayward performances last time out we could be in very good shape indeed. If we can re-establish our fluidity and automatism we might surprise a few people.

Of course they have good attacking options with pace and flair so our back four and the two DMFs will need to be at their best to give us belief. Going forward we are always a threat so the trick will be to use home advantage to keep us on the front foot with the high press. Their defence isn't that well organised so there are goals for us to be taken. Adams and Walcott need to be sharp, not so sharp as to be over-hasty but cool-headed sharp.

They will likely resort to the long ball over the top routine to beat the press as the game wears on so the big lads at the back will need to be focused to deal with their counter-attacks. We won't stop them all sadly so for me it is almost a guaranteed 2-2.

United to win 3-1 my prediction.

They've won 7 consecutive premier league away games, we've not beaten them at home for 17 years. It shouldn't matter but these sort of patterns often hold for whatever reason.

Ings and Redmond missing for us removes some of our attacking threat. They'll hit us on the break.

One of those things.

How I see it too. I think performance wise we will do OK, but ultimately they will have too much quality in attack. Bruno Fernandes is going in as captain of my Fantasy team this week I think.

On the Manure site about Saints:- 'They are arguably the best pressing team in the world.
VDB has to play this game.'   Another fan is relying on VAR, lol.

Both teams' fans seem to be cautious of each other. Neither overconfident about this game, which suggest a draw is predicted. I'd take that, provided we all play to our best.

Enjoying some of their comments about hoofing it being their best approach. What would Fergie say!?

Yes, good point. He is a very good player but sometimes holds on to the ball too long. In recent games we have been very good in pressing him and getting hr turnover. It might be more difficult this year - although we have been focussing on full backs for the press, so maybe the triggers will still be there.

This is far away from the Man U teams of years past. Not saying don't have some good players, obviously they do.Just saying I am feeling way more confident in us in this one than have felt against them for awhile.

Obviously no Ings or Redmond hinders us but still see no reason can't get the 3 points.

We shall see.

They are not very good but they seem quite flukey, Brighton battered them at home and somehow lost.

Without Ings we don't have the most efficient scorers and I think we would need to converting the sort of chance that Walcott failed to convert against Wolves to make sure of a win.

Plus they are likely to get a pen as they seem to always get pens, refs seem to be desperate to help them out.

Not sure Pogba being out is actually a good thing for us, he's exactly the type of player that would struggle against our team, having to track runs, constantly getting pressed and having Ward-Prowse in his ear all game. Pogba is a bit of a passenger when they don't have the ball, fails to track runners, makes clumsy tackles etc.

McTominay on the other hand is probably a bigger miss, he puts in a real shift for them, is decent in the air and is disciplined.

Can seeing us losing like 2-1, think their raw counter attacking pace might catch us out and feel we might not take our chances.

I think of the 'big six' our style is least suited to Uts and maybe Spurs because both those teams have basically evolved into counter attacking teams.

Couldn't agree more.  I don't watch much Man U but when I do Pogba looks like a weak link.  I'm not particularly confident about Sunday but was looking forward to watching him not coping with the pressure.  Last time I saw him live was the 2-2 at home.  He was poor that day and it was Lemina making things very hard for him.  Lemina was better that day.

Incredible isn’t it. I thought the joiners thing might be a give away. Two things if I had a pound for I’d be relatively rich. People who swear blind they were at the saints game we beat Man U 6-3 and they changed their shirts and people who claim they were there at the joiners to see Nirvana. Both never happened but I’ve met hundreds of people who claim they did as they were there.

Funnily enough, went to Brixton Academy that night to see the Chemical Bros. Great night, nearly wore my Saints top, though would have been a bit Noddy. Got mashed instead.

And yet United have won seven away games in a row and had a terrible recent record at Old Trafford.

Not wrong... What you said is irrelevant. There is no real advantage to be had from being at home or away at the moment. Your post was not a rebuttal to that.
