Goals in the team

Sorry if already discussed, but for the first time in what seems like a long time we appear to have goals all around the team. Last season with Ings out for any length of time we'd have been totally fudged, but this season we're far more potent going forward.

So far the goals have already been spread out a little:

Ings - 5

Che - 3

JWP - 3

Vester - 2

Armstrong - 1

Ori - 1

Djen - 1

I think Walcott's arrival has helped, even though he hasn't scored yet. His direct running is something we've missed as Redmond hasn't been fulfilling his role in that regard of late. When Theo gets his first I can see him bagging in a few. Great to see Ralph getting the most out of what he's got and demanding more goals from midfield and if we can have Theo, Prowse and Armstrong popping up with goals every so often we can absolutely achieve a top half finish.

How far away are we from actually being able to push for a European spot? Top 6 would be so tough but definitely not impossible.

Agree with all the above. It is nice to get contributions from a lot of different guys.  Deffo hats off to Ralph and company for the work they are doing with this group pf players.  Especially loving how Che is coming along in the absence of Ings.  I don't think that that top 6 is impossible at all; yes will be tough, but when you look at our squad versus the others right now in the top half, see no reason can't be right there in the end.

Lot of games ahead, but I am quite confident with us and our current form.

I think the concern last season about us being overly reliant on Ings- and particularly the attention paid to it by the media - is a bit of a misnomer. Looking at the image below it seems it's the norm for over 40% of a teams goals to be scored by one player.

Edit - but I agree, it is nice to see the likes of Ward-Prowse and Adams chipping in, and with Armstrong and Walcott hopefully finishing with 5+ each and maybe Djenepo too we are looking a potent attacking unit.

Reading other fans forums most seem to think our squad if at best in the bottom third. I don't think they're correct but, the way we play I would say we are better them the some of our parts.

From the outside it probably does look like our squad isn't all that special. We've got one or two top, top players but other than that to most Premier League fans our team and squad looks fairly average I'd imagine. The difference lies in their ability to perform superbly as a unit and exceed expectations. Gotta be largely thanks to the management team.

Trouble is we can go from looking world beaters one week to relegation candidates the next, so we'll probably end up around mid-table as a result :)

Bear in mind most of the first team - only KWP and Adams are exempt - were part of Hughes' disaster class.  So I can understand that there's objective hesitation to suddenly think we're worthy of a top 8 place.  Shows the miracles Ralph has performed.

I was just about to go all MLG on you and say we didn't have Ings under Hughes but indeed we did! Bloody hell, that's how crap Hughes was, I forgot we had one of our best players in recent years during his tenure. :mcinnes:
