Djenepo

I like him, he adds some unpredictability to our team and attack.

My only main concern with him are his injuries - he seems to pickup an awful lot of knocks and injuries, in games and in training. He had to come off on Friday as he felt his groin, no idea how bad it is.

If it wasn't for these knocks and niggles he keeps picking up, he'd have got a starting spot here. I hope it's not terminal for his career here but after 18 months ish he's still in and out with injuries.

The injuries are a concern for sure. We play a very intense style so may just be a matter of his body adapting to it. Do we know whether he had any injury history prior to signing?

Was probably injured when we signed him. #thesouthamptonway

He is a slight small player and feel he will snap with any decent challenges! Great little unpredictable player to have if fit.

Flair seems to be his key attribute, you get at times he doesn't often know what he is going to do let alone the opposition.  Be interesting to see how he develops, whether Ralph can add some steel and some final product consistency to him.

Certainly as others have said he seems to get injured a lot which is not going to help him get much consistency.

Great player but he's made of glass. No point in having a player who isn't going to stay fit enough to play more regularly. Hopefully he can sort these issues out, but if he hasn't done so by now you've got to wander if he ever will.

Yeah, that's his build, and I'm not sure we can do much about it. Contrast him with Obafemi, for example.

Watching Djenepo is like watching Bambi on ice. He has little solid about him. It makes him flexible but susceptible to cracking and breaking.

He definitely has something to offer. That sharp backheel to put Walcott in was one of the best things I've seen this season.

His build is not a problem, he is very lean and has a wiry build which is deceptively strong, he's not disimilar in build to Mane and no one seemed worried about him being snapped in half. Most of his injuries seem to be muscular rather than cause by impact from tackles, which may be related to him adapting to the intensity of our game. When he's fit he's a game changer for a us and a great player.

Similar to Mane when he was with us?

Not even close to having the impact Mane had, not yet anyway. Doesn't look as strong or powerful with his running unfortunately.

Quick and tricky though, no denying that. if he can put these knocks and niggles behind him then he may have a chance, otherwise he'll be off.

Great assist but he seemed much more hurried in the last game and I'm not sure it suited him, almost chaotic.  A player, perhaps more than most, that would benefit from a good run of games, to settle him and find his feet and composure.

You say that, but Mane took a few seasons to get going, he was awful when he joined.

I don't think Djenepo will get close to Mane's level, but there are similarities.  Love his passion, and his unpredictability.  Great to have a few different options on either side, suddenly feels like we have got some real depth to the squad.

He's certainly got a decent role to play as long as he can get fit.

I seem to recall that we had the very same doubts about a certain Mr.Ings that he was always injured.........................

Few seasons? He was only with us for two seasons!

He flittered in and out at the start, was particularly dreadful in a cup game to Sheffield United if i remember correctly, but once we got into December and onwards of his first season he picked up - took him about 6 months to get to grips with us and this league.

Second season he tore it up, hence Liverpool bidding for him.

This is already Moussa's second season and he's not a regular yet. I love his unpredicibility though, he brings an unknown - no one knows what he's going to do, that is similar to what Mane used to bring to us. But I will say that he lacks the physiche of Mane who was very powerful and strong, as well as quick.

Glad the club are working on it! Hope they can get to the bottom of it as he's desperate for a run in the side, but it keeps getting derailed. Would love to see him a success here.

Think he only signed a four year contract, I would be offering an extension in the new year if he has stayed fit.

When he plays he almost always makes an impact and creates chances.

Also appears to be a character that adds to the dynamic rather than draining it.

Totally agree. He is only 22. Mane was the same age when he signed for us. If he can sort out the niggles, he has great potential and will benefit hugely from a run in the side.

He gives us something we don't have and given how good we are as a unit, having that type of player is very useful.

That would make sense and I'm sure they have the technical resources to identify the source of the problems. Nothing wrong with being strong _and_ flexible.

The body is a strange complicated thing: I once got Achilles tendonitis due to running with an uneven pelvic girdle and the cure was a regular specific stretching exercise. Let's hope the solution for Djenepo is as simple. Lots of players can do flicks in training but to have the confidence and execute it so well in a match was just delicious.

Unpredictable, highly skilled, quick, appetite for scoring from what I've seen too. A nightmare for defences. Plus against Newcastle he was working very hard to get the ball back.

He's a good player and can get better. My only qualms were a couple of passes went astray (will surely get better with a run in the side), and obviously his questionable fitness record. But he's definitely a good asset to have in AM alongside Redmond, Armstrong and Walcott. AM is one of the positions I'd be looking to strengthen long term but as long as Djenepo stays fit we're OK for now.

He is very slight of build but not lacking in courage. He seems to get wiped out by sadistic opposition RB's in pretty much every game he plays. We need to get him in the gym 6/8 hrs a day and on a high protein diet to beef him up. The stronger he becomes the better he will resist injury. He looks like a player for sure.

😂 He's not trying to be a heavy weight boxer! I assume you are taking the piss, as 6-8 hours a day in the gym is pretty unachievable and even if it was - when it came to match day he'd be fucked and have no energy.

Incorrect. 6/8 hours a day would leave him grossly overtrained and more susepetable to injury. He needs to spend no more than 1 hour 3 times a week concentrating on mid volume compound lifts, c200g of protein per day and a slight calories surplus to improve strength without gaining excess fat weight.

Yep, you’re spot. 6/8 hours a day is just a ridiculous suggestion and would only result in serious malnutrition and injury, for anyone, let alone someone who is very lean and injury prone anyway.

The muscular injuries are a concern though, especially someone with the explosiveness of Moussa. Just look at Owen, who was practically finished by 26/27. However the club have a great sport science department.

if he can stay fit he’ll become a top top player. Not sure he‘ll reach Mane level but won’t be far off. We’re certainly a different team with him in it. He’ll be dog for 80 minutes, but will change the game in the 10 where he comes alive. I’d much rather him and not knowing what you’re gonna get, than Redmond who is all too predictable at the moment.

Has undoubted ability, and perhaps this is somewhat RH tactics, but he sometimes seems hesitant to carry the ball forward. Was especially noticeable on Friday but he's been like that before. Tends to reserve his best dribbles for around the box rather than carrying it forwards from further out?
