Djenepo is showing a great reluctance to take on his man and get to the bye-Line. Presumably under instructions not to in case he gets stopped and leaves Stephens vulnerable down our left flank?

In fairness, he's tracked back well and made some decent challenges. Agree that I;'d like to see him be a bit more attack-minded but needs must and all that.....

Why do refs let clear offsides run their course ‘just in case’ but blow up for a 50/50 like that?!

Because they're all absolute idiots who don't seem to understand the game. Seriously.

If we hadn't been so careless with possession we could be further ahead here. Stephens at left back is difficult to watch, not a single forward pass. Armstrong and Theo giving it away a lot.

Overall good, just sloppy in many areas and we won't hold a 1-0 lead playing like that.

If that's the case I'd prefer Djenepo switched over to the right and Armstrong being conservative on the left.

This probably sounds a tad bonkers but I sonehow feel more relaxed when we're only 1 nil up! When we get to 2 or 3 up we tend to drop off too much thus giving the momentum to the opposition. When we're only 1 nil up we have to keep on the front foot.

(Yep, you're defo bonkers Trousers)

We've played really well this half, but we might come to regret not finishing a couple of really good chances. We have been good at keeping possession and the only time that Newcastle looked as if they might be dangerous was when Saint-Maximin could have broken forward with pace, and Romeu took one for the team. The most annoying thing is the number of times when Stpehens got the ball on the left a fair way up the pitch and had good opportunities to have made a forward pass to one of our players, and every time his immediate thought was to pass the ball backwards. And I worry that all this sideways passing at the back will come to bite us if we make one slip.

What is wrong with Stevens? Every time gets the ball he stops play and then passes backwards. He's driving me mad. Get him off, surely we have somebody who could do better than this?

He is not a left wing back, so is playing within his limitations, probably under Raplh's orders.

There's probably a good reason for how it is, but if Stephens and Walker Peters swapped then at least Stephens could drive down the line on his right foot rather than cut inside and go back. Vokins must be so gutted that he's injured.

We're doing alright though, they haven't had much ball in our final third.

Agreed. He’s not looked comfortable but then he’s not a left back  but hasn’t really done anything wrong.

A couple of sloppy passes which he can’t really blame on playing LB but otherwise he has at least looked competent. I’d not be changing anything just yet.

Trouble is Stephens has played right back before, got forward and we've been massively exposed down that side. At least this way we're solid if unspectacular on the left and retain all of our threat on the right, if not more as KWP can get further forward knowing there's 3 players staying back rather than 2.

Exactly, it's not like he's getting roasted down that side by their winger. If he was then I would be worried, but he's doing a solid enough job in an unfamiliar position.

Stephens is a right footed centre half, playing at left back having been out the team for weeks. Give the lad a break! He’s playing it safe, which is completely sensible.

Can't speak for others, but my comment wasn't a criticism of Stephens. Rather a comment on how it's hard to watch a centre back playing at left back because it stifles our attacks and momentum. Not a slight on Jack.

If they stuck Maximin on that wing we'd be in trouble though. In that situation I think they need to swap Armstrong over as well and tell him to stick to him.
