Noodles34 Posted 2 November, 2020 Share Posted 2 November, 2020 So, you can only have one in the team (playing in the Prem), Which one would you take? And why? For me, it is hard to cast aside Rickie, the modern day messiah and such a good footballer as well. But most of it was done at the lower levels and whilst he was still class in the PL, was he better than Ings at this level? IMHO, probably not. Ings is also a fantastic footballer but again, en route to 20 plus goals this season. So, I'd take Ings.
Jeremy Corbyn Posted 2 November, 2020 Share Posted 2 November, 2020 Ings is clearly a better player, he's genuinely Champions League quality and we're lucky to have him. I'd struggle to say which is my preferred Saints legend though - probably still Rickie for now.

Think Rickies legendary status will always be there and the way Ings is performing, he will be too at this rate.
a1ex2001 Posted 2 November, 2020 Share Posted 2 November, 2020 Lambert for now, his story with the Saints is just too good.
jawillwill Posted 2 November, 2020 Share Posted 2 November, 2020 Unless we win silverware with Ings, for sentimental value alone, Ricky edges it.
Toussaint Posted 2 November, 2020 Share Posted 2 November, 2020 Can't believe Micky Evans misses out on this.
Toadhall Saint Posted 2 November, 2020 Share Posted 2 November, 2020 SRL for me at the mo but KOTS isn’t far behind.

I don't recall Ings or Lambert being committed enough to the Saints cause to headbutt a post while scoring a goal. In all seriousness, can we have both? Would be amazing to see peak Lambert and Ings up front together for us.
Dusic Posted 2 November, 2020 Share Posted 2 November, 2020 As a player PL, Ings. No question. But SRL has legendary status that will be hard for Ings to better!
saintquin Posted 2 November, 2020 Share Posted 2 November, 2020 If we are playing the same way as we are playing at the moment the it has to be Ings. Love Rickie but I don't think his legs are up to the way we play now.
Lord Duckhunter Posted 2 November, 2020 Share Posted 2 November, 2020 (edited) Without Rickie, Ings wouldn’t be playing for us. We’d still be in championship. It’s not always about the best players, Ings is clearly a better top flight player, but rickie was the better signing. I heard Lawrie say Peter Osgood was his best signing because the message it sent out. Same with signing Rickie. Top top signing at that time and we never looked back. sfc4prem Posted 2 November, 2020 Share Posted 2 November, 2020 SRL for longevity and absolute brilliance. Ings is perhaps a level above in the PL but needs to do it for longer to elevate himself above SRL's legend status, which will take some beating. Both SRL and KOTS offer so much more than their goals, too.

team-saint Posted 2 November, 2020 Share Posted 2 November, 2020 Ings is at a higher level than Lambert reached with us, but probably has a way to go to reach the legend status of SRL Lambert had a pretty good career but I can't help but wonder how much more he could have achieved if he got fitter earlier in his career and was playing at the top level before he reached 30! Ings has already surpassed his PL goals and will probably do the same at international level soon
