Hardly surprising if Les’s team were sacked, especially after 4 largely shocking years of recruitment at all levels and that recent article in the Athletic reviving all of the Black Box nonsense was probably the final straw. I doubt Reed and Wilson were the only bad apples going by that and looks like Crocker wielded the axe.

No sure, maybe it's a reorganisation and expansion of Scouting, part of the masterplan Ralph came up with during lockdown, prior to him signing his extended contract

Plenty of self confessed experts on here, maybe they should apply!

Can’t be hard to be a scout can it?

(1) Do they take on players more than Redmond?

(2) Is he faster than Vestergaard?

(3) Can he save the ball better than McCarthy?

(4) Would they cost around 10m?

If yes then get a video off your dodgy stream and load it into our scout black box.

Surely all you need is to be half decent at football manager?

You jest... but some Football Manager researchers work in analysis and recruitment departments of professional clubs.

There is not a person in the world who should be taken more seriously than a grown adult who spends their life on computer games

I think since Bill Green our then Head Scout sadly passed away in 2017 he left a rather big hole in the place. Maybe with the wealth of targets not coming through like they once did the club has decided to get on and get the scouting department sorted.

On top of this in our current Covid Pandemic situation, hopping on a plane from the UK to have a look at someone in Spain then France etc, incurs self isolation upon return, and  in some cases upon arrival from the UK. As football still chugs along the need for players still exists, and missing out through someone sat on their backside expensed up in a hotel room for 2 weeks is no use to the club. So they may just as well get a Johnny on the spot who can then, if needed, isolate at home with no big expense incurred.

Just seen that European scout Raul Garcia Fernandez has been pinched by Paul Mitchell at Monaco.

So maybe we’ve lost a few more.

Just going off this thread and not looking into it further, did we just have Fernandez as a general Euro scout as the adverts suggest we are looking to regionalise within Europe also.

Possibly! Not sure.  Always thought we had regionals.

Possible this is due to covid restrictions, having a scouting group based in each region rather than people travelling will be a lot better and hopefully see us get a slight advantage in the next couple of years.

Isn't that how scouting internationally has always worked? I don't think they were flying back and forth from Southampton every weekend before this.

Scouting has been pretty gash for several seasons now, so a shake-up is welcome.

Matt Crocker not happy with the standard of players in the academy, making changes 👏🏻

If true, good to see pro-active changes being made.
