There should have been 2, dont recall either happening. Can't remember the names. One was involved with one of our transfers but went to one of the other 2 clubs.

I'll take a look tomorrow when I'm more sober, if i remember.

I can vaguely remember talk of a young centreback [possibly] joining Goztepe from Trabzonspor as part of the Onuachu deal.

(I might be making that up though).

Like I say, I can't recall if any of these happened, or if they were just whispers.

That one happened.

Ninth clean sheet for Mateusz Lis.

3-0 victory against Giresunspor takes Göztepe back to third. Three points off automatic promotion places.

Valenciennes got the eighth draw of the season yesterday means they're still 6 points from safety.

league tables like @SuperSAINT may vary.

You could go on alphabetical. Or on number of wins.

Relegation from Ligue 2 almost certainly wasn't part of the planning....

So the French Ligue 2 rendition of us last year with Selles? 😄

Not quite, Kantari was a defender for Valenciennes, but he has already been Caretaker manager for a stint before the takeover.

in the last 8 games last season that he oversaw Valenciennes Won 3, Drawn 3, Lost 2. (1.5 points per game)

Not sure if this has any significance but posting on here 'for the record'....

(It's only just been uploaded to Companies House but is back-dated to 22/12/2021, when Sport Republic took over the club)

The previous document has the takeover of control on 4th January 22.

It looks as this adjusts the official date that Solak took control of Sport Republic to 3 days before Christmas.

Ah, fair enough, although seems somewhat odd and/or arbitrary to adjust the takeover date nearly two years after the event...

Joachim Kayi Sanda a name worth keeping an eye on. French Under 17 captain and appeared for Valenciennes already this season. Could be the first to be funnelled up to us at some stage.

Lis pen save.

Next week is the huge one for Göztepe as they face league leaders Eyüpspor

Valenciennes could only manage to get through to the next round of the Cup on penalties after a 1-1 draw against Mulhouse.

Mulhouse play in the 6th tier of the French pyramid system.

But they still have "Ultras" who caused issues leading to one of the stands having to be evacuated after police used tear gas.

Göztepe just battered top of the table Eyüpspor 5-1.

That's played 5 Won 5 since the new manager joined.

Scored 16 conceded 1.

Scoring for fun and conceding few; whatever next?  What are the possession and passes per match stats?  That is what really matters to a Saints-led SR group team.  Or maybe we are merely a few weeks behind Goztepe in learning the fast-tempo PB way.

Hello Southampton fans, my name is Christophe and I'm a Valenciennes FC fan.

I'm very happy to be part of the Sport Républic family since this summer and to be part of the Goztepe and Southampton families.

As you can see from a distance, the first part of my club's season has been very complicated, after a late takeover (our previous owner complicated negotiations), there have been some bad choices, particularly by our sporting director, Ben Chorley, who has recruited players who don't know our league, so adapting has been very complicated.

This winter, a lot of changes have been announced here at Valenciennes to avoid a descent into the third division. Hopefully Sport Républic have learnt from their mistakes.

I've watched your team play and I'm very happy for you and wish you all the best.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards.

Southamptons and Göztepe show that it seems Sport Republic can move things positivity, though it seems there is always a rough patch at first.

I hope Flamarion and Oyewusi can help you have some good fortune.

Sure.  Until you factor in we were a premier league team when they took over and now we aren't.

Other than that, enormously positive.

It's more or less the same trajectory that our 3 clubs are going through following the takeover by Sport Républic, difficult at the start but then improving.

Despite everything, I'm confident about the future, whether we go down or stay in the second division.

Stoilov's winning streak comes to an end as Bodromspor put 3 past Göztepe.

Winter break now for both Valenciennes and Göztepe

It's baked into the Sport Republic philosophy that players are bought for the future rather than for the present, so hopefully as we get our pipelines in place things will go better

Valenciennes announce Kantari will stay on as manager until the end of the season.

They have a cup match against lower tier Sarreguemines FC on Friday before the league starts back up again on 13th January

Isnt it a bit of a double edged sword saying they are staying on, like they were considering sacking him ? but we've decided he's good enough for the season.

As our friend says the DOF Chorley seems to have a lot to answer for but i wonder how many of the new recruits were insisted on by the SR scouting rather than the clubs thoughts.

Sounds a bit ominous- https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2023/official-valenciennes-appoint-ahmed-kantari-as-head-coach/

Results have hardly improved since Maciel departed and Kantari is yet to find the team’s second win in the league. Two losses and a victory in the Coupe de France over a team three divisions below them have not been a great start for the new manager.

It looks highly likely that VAFC will be relegated at the end of the season with four clubs being demoted into the Championnat National this year and results yet to improve for the struggling team.

He was named caretaker at the beginning of December and they said they'd make a final decision by the end of the month. Which they have done.

In this ain't Kantari has had two league matches, (which were both lost by one goal) and a cup match that they scraped through on pens.

I was hoping Nathan Jones would rock-up in Northern France to save the day.
