Being super lazy and not wanting to read through multiple pages - what is the consensus amongst you lot on here?

I'm definitely encouraged by Rasmus Ankerson's involvement, maybe his goal was to replicate what he was doing at Brentford at a higher scale/budget?

I haven't managed to see much regarding the financial strength of this Dragon fella, however.

Like you I am encouraged by Ankerson's involvement. Brentford have got to be the best run club over the last decade.

However Serb owners have left me cold ever since Milan Mandaric arrived at Portsmouth but it does seem this guy does actually have access to decent finance.

I think in this day and age the altruistic, decent and minted football club owner (a la Marcus Liebherr) does not exist and we have to swallow the inevitable warts that come with being privately owned, if we want to compete and I would rather be owned by this guy than the Saudi bone saw boys for instance.

And, as has been pointed out, Semmens and co have done a good job steadying the ship since Les set off on his path of destruction and I don't think they (or Katarina) would sell us to any old tyre kicker with empty pockets. So its a cautious welcome from me (Turkish please take note so you don't later make yet another fictitious claim about me never liking the owners), but as a Saints fan of long standing I reserve the right to insert the word "cautious" before the word welcome. At least there is now hope after a grim 3 or 4 seasons.

Note that the Sun article got updated to show the value of the investment by Dragan for 80% was changed to £150m, which seems more like it. So Kraft will be the new Cortese with backup from Angerson. From what I can see this all looks like good news, someone ba King the Club with some interest in improving it, rather than just what he can take out. Would have preferred to see KL go as well, but maybe that will happen once the new team have got their feet under the table and she is happy that her Father's legacy is in good hands. Also this might explain why we didn't really pursue our.complaint to the PL about the Newcastle postponement with this going through the new new owners process at the PL, this is the first takeover under the new rules, didn't want to upset the applecart at such a delicate moment.

So who can we buy now before the Newcastle game to counteract Kieran Trippier 🙄

I completely agree about the cautiously excited approach.

With Ankerson's involvement, paired with a (potentially strange?) strong belief in Semmens having the best interests for the club at heart regarding this takeover, this seems to be a good day!

thanks Golac, i didn't even really say that though, just that i know FT in real life and he's not one to make stuff up or start unfounded rumours when others on here were saying it was BS. It seems that sticking up for someone now constitutes trying to take the credit and arrogantly giving them my seal of approval. I think what it has show though is what a bellend Soggy is

Turkish, sorry but who is FT at first i thought you talking about the paper!!

What do you think of the takeover mate? All you've posted on here is about me, which is ironic as that's exactly what you're accusing me of.

Gao brought 80% for £210m in 2017. At the time that valued Southampton at £262.5m!

Gao is now selling his 80% for £100m. Valuing the club at £125m!

He is making a huge loss!

Figure It Out What GIF by CBC

He is because of the debt the club has.  I remember football clubs being sold for 1p in the 90's because of their debt!

Well said. I'm not a regular on here and dont know who any of the posters are, who's right or wrong or historic reputations, etc. But I really dont care and it's so f*cking annoying having to scroll through 'dick fights' to actually read any interesting stuff about the takeover.
Surely a Sticky could be made for petty arguments to be conducted or moved to, and leave the relevant stuff in here?

Why not?  Liebherr sold to the first person who offered her the money, even though he failed the fit and proper test first time around.  Let's not forget Gao was involved in state bribery in China where he grassed up the person he was bribing in order to avoid jail and said person was subsequently executed by the state....    She would be hard pressed to find a worse person to sell to so all this stuff about her looking after her Dad's legacy is bollux.  The only reason she hangs on to the 20% is as she thinks she might be able to flog this for a fortune at some point in the future.

I stuck up for FT as well, and made it clear it came from his mate but I'm disappointed that I have had no level of abuse that Turkish has enjoyed. It's not fair that he gets all the attention, it's ruined what should have been a good day for me.

I dont think a 100m deal would hinge on getting a pont at home to Spurs. I suggest this has been months not days

Not suggesting that, but being 4 points closer to relegation would probably cause the bean counters to count the beans a little more closely given loss of revenue from that calamity

They're going down the route of $$$$$$$$$$$$$, and it will ultimately buy them a lot of success - albeit very manufactured.

We'll probably go down the route of earning any success we get through clever buys and shrewd sales, which is ultimately more fun and more of a ride.

To be honest, that is something I could massively get behind. Whilst, of course, spending millions and competing for the league each year would be fun, but it would also result in losing your fan base and pricing the average (dare I say, league one fan) out.

Ive never felt more disinterested as a saints fan these past few years, to the point where I no longer go, which I would ever have said a few years back. A never ending cycle of selling and massively underfunding and progressively getting worse and looking like relegation is inevitable.

The Poch / Koeman years were one of the most exciting times I can remember as a saints fan, great players and great football. We’re not a million miles away from that, but need some much needed investment in the club to achieve it.

Personally, I’d much rather we done a Leicester and put together a very good young, exciting squad (I.e us under koeman), who win a FA cup or 2 and compete in Europe each season, than a city and win a trophy every year, they start to become meaningless.

we need to be in a position where we’re selling our best players to the top teams, rather than the mid table ones (I.e Ings to villa).

It’s one of the reasons I wouldn’t be too arsed if the big 6 fucked off and joined a super league, it’d make the league 100x more exciting for everyone else.

Again this may be controversial but I think Gao should be thanked, as he did things quietly and left the officers of the club to run things. Too many clubs have owners who want to run things wheras Gao left the club to its own devices. It was poor timing that just after he took over the Chinese gov prevented money leaving China.

Typical of you - always trying to deflect the plaudits away from others.  I too was going to massively vouch for FT's credentials as well (not that I've any idea who he/she is), but forgot to and so also missed out on the abuse.  You won't find me mentioning it on here though.  The Dean Henderson transfer though - well that's a different matter.......

Unreal news, but sadly I'm not informed enough to be able to make a judgement as of yet.

Can only hope along with everyone else here that this goes well.

My only observation though is £100m seems so cheap in the grand scheme of things, how desperate was Gao in the end?! I wonder if there were other suitors at that price and also whether it was Semmens or Katarina who authorised this sale.

I just hope whoever did the due diligence did it well, I have doubts over the Premier Leagues "fit and proper persons test".

Well, after the Newcastle take over surely anything goes. They'll be hard pressed to turn down potential take overs now with the bar set so low.

Rasmus Ankersen is leaving Brentford.  He had a close working relationship with Saints during his time at Brentford.  Also involved at Midtjylland.  Coincidence?

I considered taking the piss out of your post at the time as thought the timescales were much too short to be anything more than a coincidence. Fair play for calling it correctly.

Also, I had a look at the guy's website and it looks full of motivational woolly bullshit. However, his record at Brentford has to be respected. I, for one, welcome our new Les Reed.

Typical - I've been off work for 3 weeks with a head injury and Saints wait for the exact moment I go back to work (literally heard about it on Talksport in the car) to announce a takeover!

I haven't read the ins and outs on here yet as to what it means,  but there was only so long we could last in the Prem without investment in the playing side (rather than selling to buy). I think we have a good set up here so I hope that not much changes,  but the ability to be competitive in the transfer market would be nice.

Start off with a decent AM and I'd be happy! (I appreciate we're not going to be the next Newcastle) but every little would help.
