Can anyone make sense of the Valery situation? If, when he is the only senior RB at the club and he's on the bench, and we need a RB and he gets overlooked for two midfielders, then surely it makes sense to let him go if we aren't going to play him no matter what?

It makes sense if you accept the premise that he won't play. I find that premise very odd, given the circumstances.

When asked if he regrets letting Vokins go so soon, Hasenhuttl told HampshireLive: "No, this is not a problem.

"We are not so bad in that position as we have Will Ferry as an alternative on the bench if we need to.

“It looks like Jannik [Vestergaard] and [Mohammed] Salisu are coming back as soon as one week or two weeks. This is important as we will then have more options in the back four and Kyle-Walker Peters' is not a big injury.

He added: "It is getting better defensively and we have more alternatives."

It's ok, Will Ferry can cover full-back! That didn't take long to cover off another transfer window fail...

I remember Reed telling us to 'judge him at the end of the window' one time - if I recall it turned out okay. No such soundbites from anyone this time around though.

Hopefully Ralph doesn't get pissed off with things.

Southampton and Leicester then inquired about the player.

However, Arsenal did want to let Maitland-Niles join a club who are in contention for a Champions League place and Southampton pulled out due to the time it was taking to conclude a deal. (BBC)

Ah, so the plan all along was to promote a left winger who had never played left back in his life until a few months ago for the B team. Makes perfect sense.

To be fair, Wayne Bridge was a bang average left winger who was converted into a more than decent full back.

He's a a decent winger to be fair and perhaps the club think it's easier to convert him to a full back than a 10.

It's amazing though that last week he was seen as understudy to Vokins, but after he was shipped out as not being good enough that Ferry is now deemed good enough cover.

Gulp.

In an ideal world we'd be able to follow the Leipzig model and have a club abroad owned by our owners who play football exactly the same way using coaches taught by Ralph/whoever our manager is, that we can loan players to in order to get them competitive experience in the exact same system.

I noticed a slightly dodgy RB Salzburg to RB Leipzig transfer - Dominik Szoboszlai for 22m euro. Could be seen as a rich club in the stable subsidising a poorer club or possibly underpaying - I don't know the chap. But I'm sure it happens (Wolves?)

I've always had the impression that Ferry is marked for greater things and perhaps they felt Vokins could get in the way of his development. Ferry suffered a bad injury just after being voted youth team player of the season while Vokins has only had a handful of games more, so we're not really losing a lot of experience.

I still suspect that Stephens will be the short term preferred deputy for Bertrand once Vest & Salisu are back.

Yep, pretty much agree with that. Stephens at LB, staying back, gives scope for KWP to play high and a 10 on the left to get forward and mostly stay there.

At the end of the day, we're skint so if we get nobody in we'll have to make do.

Ferry looks a player though, and you be right that after Vokins has shown that he's not quite at the level that Ferry now his has chance as the next young LB.

Lookman and is only on loan to Fulham from Leipzig this season.

So we’re not going to sign him today if he’s on loan at Fulham for the rest of this season?

Thats true, only replying to someone asking the question.

Where's this Lookman talk come from? That seems very unlikely, but would be a great bit if business.

I saw him mentioned on here, and another forum; in the context of a suggestion we were linked to him. Though I've not seen a link.

Someone should suggest that they just saw him at Winchester services though. Buying a pasty.

I presume Spurs want Rose wages off their books, but he's on high wages, so people won't take them and I doubt he'll voluntarily drop his wages just to make things easier for Spurs seeing as they have basically frozen him out.

Never going to get a game at Spurs as they didn't even register him. I find it a little strange that he hasn't been snapped up by someone as soon as the window opened. Very decent footballer. Are Spurs insisting that any loaning club pay 100% of his wages?

LB cover please. That's all I want.

I'd add that I'm quite keen not to pee Ralph off so much that he feels he's pushing a brick uphill with our resources and is therefore better off elsewhere

So right now, we have one first team LB and one first team RB (who is injured). As much as i dont rate Valery or Vokins, they shouldnt be allowed to leave until replacements are in the building. What are we thinking 🤯

Valery has not left (yet).

We've wanted full-back cover since the Williams deal fell through on the final day of the summer transfer window. Bizarre that we've gone into the final day of the next transfer window and still searching.

I don't believe we will let Valery go unless we had a replacement through the door.

Sounds like the club have decided that Will Ferry is the Vokins replacement in the squad. Really does scream of desperation that one, I thought he was an attacking left midfielder. Poor Ralph.

He has played left back on a number of occasions for the under 23s. Our fullbacks also play like wingers, so transferable skills.

Admittedly Djenepo does not have the skill set to be a full back! 😁

It's not great though is it, left full back cover is a case of delving into the youth team for a lad, who isn't even a full back by trade. I reckon we expected to get someone in, hence why we let Vokins go. Otherwise that makes no sense.

I still think the club have something up their sleeve.

Yes I agree with you. I reckon we've got something up our sleeve hence why no journalist has said that is business done for the window.

He is a full back by trade. He is a professional footballer and his club has been converting him to left back over many months. So his trade/job is being a left back! 😉😇

We won't know if it is great or not until we see if he can play at the level required. Vokins couldn't, hopefully Ferry can.

He doesn't look great at defending in the Under 23's, let alone the premier league.

Yes but we've had windows where we thought nothing was happening and then the "business done" message doesn't come for ages and then eventually it does come at about ten o'clock and we haven't signed anyone.

Down to the bare bones.

Who was it that used to say that ?

It'll be the usual classic saints window. We all sit here scratching our heads as this player and that go to our rivals. And with a few mins to go we'll announce some injured loan signing who ends up barely kicking a ball for us in the second half of the season :)
