I'm ready. Even I'll be better positionally than Valery.

And I'd make stronger tackles! You have to if you play 5-a-side against Rallyboy!

Or maybe they’ve realised they cannot just pluck most players direct from u23s into the premier league and that our youth need competitive football against experienced players to help make the grade?

Yeah.  I always thought it was a bit silly to make a blanket statement like that.  Valery clearly has the ability to be have a career as a professional footballer somewhere in the top two divisions, a successful loan could easily see him rekindle his Southampton future.

Was it Martin Semmens or Matt Crocker who recently said we no longer see loans as an appropriate way to develop our youth talent?

That being the case, it would seem that neither Valery nor Vokins has a future at the club.

And yes, if we come out of this window having loaned out our two backup fullbacks without bringing in at least one player to replace them, it would be a total failure of management from the entire club. So I have to be confident that we have already done a deal and are waiting to announce it later today.

Maybe at 20 and 21 they're not considering Vokins and Valery as Youth?............I know, I'm just trying to give Semmens some latitude on his statement 😉

Valery is just not a defender, if he was converted to a right sided midfield player he could be pretty decent.
Defending wise he has as much positional awareness as Danny Fox

Rumour of Rose in from Spurs and speculation thus of Bertrand to Arsenal. Sounds plausible

If that happens that will be two January windows in a row where we will have offloaded a fullback to Arsenal and got one from Spurs in return.

It shouldn’t be plausible, would leave us in the exact same situation.

I am surprised Rose's name hasn't come up more frequently, although I am not sure he passes the attitude test.

When was the last time Rose even played? He's a good player on his day, but questionable whether he's better than Bertrand (and would likely be earning more than Bertie).

Plus RB actually wants to be here...that wouldn’t make any sense at all.

Take a look at Sunderland's formation. They play our 4-2-2-2 formation.

They're further ahead of our B team so will be better for us in the long term.

Just seen that Billy Gilmour has been linked to us

I think that has come and gone some time ago.

I still wonder if we're playing hardball on the AMN one. It was said we want him, he wants to come if he can get playing time in midfield, which he will with our injuries, and Arsenal want him to come. It was said we only pulled out because of "increasing frustration with the agent" - greedy as usual.

I was thinking that too. Hes been our top target, hard to think we would just end our interest there immediately.

You've got to wonder why all these names are being released to one by one turn us down / get pulled by agent or whatever. Not only does it look like a massive own goal from a PR perspective but it also doesn't look good to a perspective player either. Nobody wants to be third, fourth of fifth choice. So much for doing business behind closed doors. That or it is complete BS but it seems true that AMN's people effed the deal and that there was concrete interest in Japhet Tanganga. It's as if some people in the corridors of power at SMS think that leaking names appeases the fans when it actually does the opposite. Until Adam Blackmore says we're all done fans have their hopes up and don't need names drip fed to them for them to eventually be pulled away. Nonsensical messaging.

Loaning out a defender who was in the squad for our past 5 games, with little to no existing depth, where injuries have gotten worse and we appear not to have even had a player lined up to bring in.

That's incredible, even for us.

Probably so they can show they tried but nothing was available.

Have we ever signed a player from Serie A with a bad attitude  🤔

In an ideal world we'd be able to follow the Leipzig model and have a club abroad owned by our owners who play football exactly the same way using coaches taught by Ralph/whoever our manager is, that we can loan players to in order to get them competitive experience in the exact same system.

Either there must be someone coming in or the financial situation is so dire that we have to accept the loan offers to get their wages off the bill and get a small amount of money in.

Didn't Lawrie always say we need violinists and road sweepers?   Or was that Claude Puel..........?😉

You have to question why these matters are always left until deadline day? There's nothing like leaving it until the 11th hour to sign someone who wasn't your first or second choice.

The whole thing smells of "Ok, well he'll have to do".

Devil's advocate, you could say that KWP was one of those types of signings.

There is a "you'll have to do" aspect to it, but it's more from the players' perspective than the club's. Agents will advise their clients to hold out until the very last moment to see if they get any better offers before accepting one that was made earlier in the window.

the Arsenal Athletic reporter said Niles didnt fancy coming to us. Probably doesnt like hard work. Much easily joining big Sam where the midfield is not required and he can just jog around

You seriously have to wonder.

I presume Spurs want Rose wages off their books, but he's on high wages, so people won't take them and I doubt he'll voluntarily drop his wages just to make things easier for Spurs seeing as they have basically frozen him out.

Just heard that Maitland-Niles to WBA is a done deal? Don't get that at all? Saints, Leicester, Newcastle in for him and he picks WBA. Must be something to do with guaranteeing him first team football, or a Big Sam brown envelope?

First team football in a position he wanted to play in - midfield.

We were looking at him as squad cover in multiple positions - RB/LB/CM. Basically, he'd come here and be used in exactly the same way he was used at Arsenal....I get his reasons. I just hope people don't look at it and get their pants in a twist ''We can't even attract AMN.'' ''We lose out to WBA. Everyone out'.

My guess with Maitland-Niles is he wants to play but doesn’t want to permanently leave Arsenal, moving to West Brom with their likely relegation leaves him open to go back there.

Can anyone make sense of the Valery situation? If, when he is the only senior RB at the club and he's on the bench, and we need a RB and he gets overlooked for two midfielders, then surely it makes sense to let him go if we aren't going to play him no matter what?

Would be spectacular if we moan about having no squad depth, then let our two second choice full backs go out without reply. Is there some kind of small print clause on this loan were we don't want to finish top half as we'll pay higher interest....

How bad are the Diallo and Walcott injuries as well?
