All this talk of bringing a loanee in flies in the face of Ralph's previous line that it takes several weeks to get someone up to speed with our system (I think he said it with regard to Salisu). Now we are looking at bringing someone in and slotting them in immediately. Sounds like an old Les Reed 'philosophy' situation to me.

Think AMN would be a cracking signing: versatile, talented, experienced and probably eager to prove a point (or get a permanent move away).

Can play on either wing, in midfield or at either fullback.

The last loan deal we had from North London turned out to be alright. Hopefully we can get it done/

when I first saw AMN I thought he was a tremendous talent and possibly good enough to get in the World cup squad for Russia. Slightly surprised he has not played more, so wondering whether he has shown to not be disciplined enough to play at fullback or skillfull enough to play on the wing. Hopefully we can reignite his career. I've been far from impressed by Vokins, so happy with this loan if it comes off.

Talking to Arsenal fans, sounds like he's a victim of his own versatility (or willingness to be). Hes not really a full back, but very talented further forward.

When Saints send a player out on loan it hasn't, in recent times anyway, been a good sign for their future. I'm struggling to think of a player sent out on loan who's come back much improved and fired their way into contention.

Ralph is on record saying the problem with players going elsewhere for playing time is other clubs don't play the same way as Saints, so they are not getting experience of playing in the system Ralph wants.

I wonder if Ralph doesn’t see Theo being a prospect beyond this season and ANM is a direct replacement? Would make more sense than being a stand in for Bertrand or KWP.

You're on to something -Theo's star is waning.   ANM played as an attacking midfielder could be a master stroke.

Very much hope so. Theo has been a big disappointment. Just not good enough, and dare say he won’t fit wage structure

There have been some good moments since his return; goals at Wolves & Arsenal, the last minute assist against Chelsea and the cross that put us ahead against Newcastle to go top of the league. So yes, maybe the gloss has come off in recent weeks, but I don't agree that it has been a total failure.  I also think that it would have helped for him to be rested more, but injuries didn't allow .

I'm in agreement with you that we shouldn't extend his contract on the wages he is on today, but this is where supply and demand kicks in; I'm assuming that he won't have a long queue of suitors wanting to sign him on an expensive contract so perhaps his wage demands won't be excessive.

Overall my instinct is not to extend (even at reduced wages), but we have half a season left, a few players coming back from injury and the team and Theo may yet rediscover their mojo. Let's see ....

Its been the issue with Theo in recent years, way too inconsistent. Gets himself in great positions but then let down by a poor touch, pass or decision. Unless theres an upturn in form and 5/6 goals between now and the season end, I wouldnt be bothered with us not making it permanent.  AMN would be a great replacement

Linked with Barcelona's Junior Firpo, but apparently fallen through due to Barcelona not able to sign Garcia this month from Man City.

From this article it sounds like we were pretty close until Koeman stepped in: http://sportwitness.co.uk/southampton-bid-for-la-liga-defender-saints-moving-closer-for-player/ - he also fits the bill of being versatile! No idea how quickly he'd adapt to Premier League, though. AMN definitely has the advantage on that front. If we could get both of them, that would provide more squad strength! I know this won't happen, though.

It is easy to see why he became a bit part player at Everton, talented and dangerous when he's on it, but inconsistent. He hasn't done anything too damaging defence wise, but the attack breaks down too often with him and we don't have the attacking quality all round just to shrug it off, knowing another chance will come soon.

I thought you could only have 1 domestic PL loan at once. Or is it two?

You can have two. West Ham had to turn Benhrama's deal into a perm so they could bring Lingard in on a loan, as they'd also already had Dawson on loan from Watford.

Well we all heard Ralph hear we have no money and that he’d sign 10 players if he could.

I get the feeling had we been 17th/18th we would have signed someone but being on 29pts and relatively safe the board are just happy to see the season out.

I would like to think the above paragraph is stupid reasoning given each place in the PL is worth around £1.5m-£1.8m but I’m sure the accountants are doing cost-benefit analysis

I’d love AMN or any experienced pro on loan whatever is available at this point- would lift the fans and potentially the squad and Ralph

Seems daft to loan players out if we still can't bring anyone in.

It feels and sounds like we are on the brink of financial oblivion. Hope I'm wrong.

The whole of football is in financial shit you blithering idiot

Doesn’t stop Premier League clubs from bringing players in.

Villa just spent 14m on a midfielder from Marseille...

Fact is with no investment whatsoever from Gao and with the covid crisis in full flow and with no new ownership on the horizon, we are realling going to struggle on that front in the next few years.

And it will have an effect on the football side, we ll be forced to sell our best players, we ll struggle to bring some semi decent ones, and will lose our best manager we ve ever had...

So things are not looking that rosey.
