Apart from FB cover, what do we really need in terms of signings?

Not likes, actual needs?

Personally i feel we need someone to understudy Adam and Danny, Like Salisu is for the CBs and Diallo is for the CMS.

I would like Daka brought in from RB Salzburg.

From what I've seen, N'Lundulu seems capable of stepping up. I reckon Ralph would rather promote from within than sign an academy blocker to keep the bench warm (assuming he believes N'Lundulu is ready to step up full-time of course). And we've also got Tella impressing on the fringes too.

He was meant to be that, Because we didn't really have much money to use to bring in a suitable prospect i imagine. Don't get me wrong, He is okay, But currently he is out the team and currently 5th choice, Behind Theo and Nlundulu it seems.

He can do a job at left back and has actually played more there for Man Utd than at right back, but that's because it's where they needed him. He is a natural right back and not someone we would ever sign to be first choice left back. But as first choice backup for both positions I could see it, especially since Valery is looking like a write off making it our most pressing need. Right now our backup right back is either JWP or Stephens, neither solution is ideal.

Yeah, fair point. I guess it's probably his versatility that's attracting Ralph as much as anything.

Not sure understudy is the right way to look at it. if we could get someone who "could" take over from either of them now or in the very near future that would be ideal for two reasons. Firstly it would put pressure on, and also be better if either get injured, suspended or just dip in form temporarily. Secondly, and i hpe this does not happen, but it would be great to get a replacement in for Danny (if he does not sign) before he goes! Longs days are numbered, his value is possibly more on the training field and around the club than the pitch. Doesnt hurt to have one or two of that type around the club. N'Dundulu looks like he has something ablut him so I anticipate he will be the 4th choice for the next year or two, but who knows, he might excel quickly. Obefemi I would think is on his way out of the club.

Agreed. On the basis that Long and Obafemi are likely to either leave or not feature next season that leaves us with 3 strikers, one being a relatively unproven but promising youngster and another being a player that could well be leaving soon.

Ideal, but given our financial model relies on selling to buy, I can't see that happening (especially if we'd want to use the entire proceeds of Ings's sale on a single replacement player)

My instinct is that Ings willl not leave. Im sure he does have offers right now, it would bewierd if not. Whatever he does, stay or go, it is likely to be his final big contract so taking time to make the right decision, and get the details  sorted makes total sense. If he does decide to leave then thats his choice and as frustrating that might be as a fan we will surely get upwards of 60/70m. Plenty to get 2 or 3 very decent emerging diamonds for Ralph to polish.

And that's the point. We have regular first choice players in those positions, so we appear to be looking for a reserve player. Imagine the conversation : "so Brandon, we'd like to bring you in on a salary lower than you are on now, and no, you're unlikely to get any game time, but we do have excellent facilities, and you can get a decent coffee in the restaurant. What do you say?" Gonna be a hard sell.

Based on that article it is pretty rubbish. They have attempted to shoe horn some quotes that don't talk about Forster into an article about him possibly returning to Celtic. Really is shoddy journalism.

Hi Brandon...so far this season every game bar one we've played the same full backs. When we did get a problem we had to stick a CB at left back. We'd really like the option to rest one or both of them at some stage, especially in January after a heavy Xmas period. Not only would you be a valued squad member for two positions unlike your position now where you're not even the first choice back up in either role but you'd come in and likely to given an opportunity pretty quickly. Our manager is pretty insistent that if you come in and do well you'll keep playing, you only need to look at Romeu and Walcott currently in our squad. We've also been after you for a while now because we really like you.

Look here, I've read the article and cannot see any issues with it. Just look at this compelling quote:

Celtic have struggled with Forster’s dominant presence in goal and Lennon would love to lure him back to Parkhead as Rangers threaten to walk away with the title.

They're clearly massive fans of Forster, as despite his dominant presence causing them to struggle, they would still love to lure him back.

Additionally:

McCarthy, 30, is the number one at Southampton as he is more comfortable with the ball at his feet and building from the back in Hasenhuttl’s playing style.

Fully agree that McCarthy is only our number one due to the weakest part of his game.

Love both Vestergaard and Danny Ings but is it time to sell them both to maximize the profit made? Can se Danny being sold for 35M and Vestergaard 25-30M aswell if they don't want to sign a new contract. Both 1 year left in the summer. Can we afford not to sell them?

Ings - we'd hope for more than £35M surely? Either way, he needs to sign that contract extension even if only for us to get the £50M he should be priced at.

VVD, sorry Vestergaard - he's loving his cemented place right now, he wouldn't want to leave, so if we need to extend it, do it. He's already a £50M player, and if he continues playing as well as he is, his price will increase.

Semmens has said recently we are not a selling club. But as a business wanting to generate funds selling players is obvious. However, selling players (the best ones) only begins a downward spiral as we have witnessed far too often. I think this is what he is meaning. We do not NEED to sell the best. There will of course be occasions where an individual wants to go and that's fair enough. This is very different to actively planning to sell players and constantly evolve the squad.

Ralph will not stand for that.

At some point the club has to decide whether sporting achievement is more important than profit. I think we are at that point now with the people running the club.

Selling lesser players, say 2 to get one is probsbly the way forward for the next year or two. By then we may have a few kids good enough and so one or two others may be sold to get one. Having said that we seem to forget that there is Sky income which surely must allow for one or two decent purchases each season?!!

We should get more than 35m for Ings if we sell him this window and maby 35-40m for Vestergaard. If Man U comes in maby 60m for V-gard.

Stating the obvious but interesting to see that even with 9 subs neither Vokins nor Valery featured.

Definitely need reinforcement in this area.

Bertrand has looked jaded in the last two games and KWP in his first season of playing every game.

I agree with selling Redmond. We need someone with a better speed of thought and action and probably a left-footer.

I saw that we were linked to Zinchenko, but he looks more likely to go to Wolves, so that may just be agent talk to make it look like there's a bidding war. I am disappointed that Ralph doesn't trust Vokins, as I've been impressed with him whenever I've seen him play, but obviously Ralph has seen more.

If we can get Williams, or someone else in on loan, that would be good, but I reckon any permanent signings will wait until the summer.

As well as most of the team played yesterday, we didn't really look like scoring, despite all the pressure around their box. Redmond had an absolute mare when he came on and if teams have worked out how to stop Vestegaard getting on the end of Prowsey's set pieces, there's nobody else who seems able to. I really hope a lack of quality back up strikers doesn't become an issue.

Don’t think we will sell any of our main players but if a loan bid for Long and Obafemi came in then take it.

As for Redmond who could afford to buy him for 12m?

I hope not, that guy is a liability defensively, far too rash to be a left back and doesn't offer enough imo as an attack mid.

Distinctly strikes me as a 'Lingaard' type player, i.e someone benefitting from having lots of talented team mates around him but isn't that good himself.

------------------------

I think we clearly need full back reinforcements, at least some better cover, possibly a replacement for Bertrand next season if no contract.

We should also be looking for a striker IMO, Adams has come good but we need someone to challenge him and Ings, and potentially cover if Ings leaves in the summer if we can't get him to sign a new contract.

And finally we need someone else for those wide positions, a clear upgrade I think, none of Armstrong, Redmond or Djenepo have convinced this season and are being out shone by a 31 year old Walcott who was signed as back up.  I think Djenepo will come good he's still young, he hasn't played many games at his level really as he seems to be stop start with injuries, but he has a lot of raw talent there.

But we need someone I think with a bit more guile, a craftier passer, someone who can pick the runs the forwards make and maybe pop in some shots from range.

Basically a De Bruyne type player I think (but obviously it would be miraculous to find a player of that level).

Yeh I doubt we'll get anyone bar maybe a loan full back in Jan.

More was talking the summer, where hopefully some more deadwood will have gone.

I dont think its coincidence that Redmond has looked pretty poor, or average if I'm being kind, since games after lockdown back in June. As the team have become more and more what Ralph wants he has become more and more on the fringes. I would sell in January if anyone wants him. We have plenty of choices in his position and a couple of great crosses from Tella yesterday suggested if we had injuries etc he could provide cover out wide as well.

My main concern is Bertrand. I have always loved him and still want him to sign a contract BUT going forward and playing in this system KWP has really shown what we are missing on that left side from an attacking full back. He is twice the danger going forward that Bertrand is and we look much more of a threat on the right than the left. So maybe it is time we went looking for a young left back who like KWP is down the pecking order at his club but has the potential. Sounds like Williams would only be cover on the left as he's right footed so probably not him.

He's understandably lost his pace but when he does get forward he can't get seem to get back. Personally I wouldn't offer him a new deal. We should prioritise a new left back in January and a winger in the summer.
