There is some suggestion that this winter could be one of the worst in recent times.
As someone who lived through the winter of 1963 when the fixture congestion was very significant, I wonder how another very cold and snowy winter could affect an already Covid threatened season.
Of course pitches are generally in better shape these days but extended snow and frost in Jan/Feb/March would surely affect any return of spectators to stadia.
Let's hope the long range forecast is not correct as continued snowy weather could really adversely affect the finances of a lot of clubs.
Possibly a fixture congestion may be beneficial to us as we will probably have only League games to worry about.
Btw, Saints had a great run in the FA Cup in 1963, reaching the semi finals as a Second Division club.

Barring the 'weather', I think it's going to be a winter of being indoors more than being out anyway.

If fans are in stadiums before the spring then I'll be very, very, very surprised. They should just start refunding season tickets now imo.

Daily Express reader per chance...?

That paper (I've omitted the "news" part) seems to have 4 recurring themes
Weather prdiction - Hottest/Coldest/Wettest/Stomiest
Princess Diana
Cancer - prevents/causes (often what prevents it then causes it a few months later and vice versa)
House prices to plummet/surge

I'm sure that it's in the editor's contract that all 4 have to be headlined at least one a month

Back on topic, even if it snows it's not that difficu;t to clear a pitch or prevent it getting covered in the first place. Most postponements seem to be for the safety of fans in and around the stadiums (stadia ??)  No fans, fewer reasons to call a game off.

Don’t forget Brexit and ‘fury’ at whatever the EU are proposing. I think it’s once a week to mention all of the above as a headline....

Or a good warm and stable spring followed by a warm summer  with greater opportunity pollination with less wind and rain damage to blossoms. I had a bumper year of cooking apples, that's a sign, I sign of many apple crumbles to come.

Doubt the weather with have any impact at all on matches this winter.  In the day of modern stadia there is very rarely a pitch issue these days anyway.  The weather problems are generally to do with H & S of stadiums and surrounding areas for the fans who are travelling and attending.  As there will be no fans there, so long as the pitch is playable (which invariably it will be) the match will proceed.
