Saints v Brentford Carabao Cup Round 2 - build up

So, play the 'first 11' to iron out the wrinkles from the Palace game, or rest key players for the Spurs game?

I'm thinking...

Forster

KWP - Bednarek - Stephens - Vokins

Romeu - JWP

Djenepo - Redmond

Adams - Obefemi

I think it’ll be a mix, though a lot to be said about getting more match practice in for the first team. Ings last season against the Skates comes to mind.

Forster, Valery, Stephens, Bednarek, Vokins, JWP, Smallbone, Djenepo, Redmond, Adams, Obafemi

Expect a scrappy, disjointed affair - could go either way, fingers crossed it’s us as could do with a boost.

According to the EFL this game will not be available on iFollow so doesn't look like there will be any way for the loyal Saints and Brentford supporters to witness this behind closed doors spectacle, radio Solent commentary might be the only option to listen unless it's being televised abroad and we can get a stream.

Bound to be changes, according to a Brentford mate he reckons "they'll play the reserves" so hopefully our B side will still be strong enough. Tight game , I'll go with 2-1.

WBA or Harrogate is the prize for the winners, we'll know the outcome of that one already as they kick off at 6.

About time someone on the fringes of the squad really puts the squeeze on Redmonds position - he was a passenger v Palace as he is in so many games with his predictable play...........anyone claiming “but he did” had a shot on goal: that wasn’t a shot that was a easy  pass to their keeper.

It seems like our first 11 could do with a bit more sharpness and fluidity, rather than a rest. I’d give one of the reserve ‘keepers a go and maybe Djenepo in for Redmond to give him some game time.

Only a few seasons ago I remember paying £10 to see us play some plucky lower league team at St Marys about this stage. Notable for an appearance of the seldom spotted G. Ramirez so well worth the money.

After the utterly inept and pedestrian display vs Palace where we strolled around arrogantly passing backwards as if it was a forgone conclusion ( and all  time in the world)   we would win after going a goal down, I would not pay £10 and risk watching similar dross. Very worrying.  However Spurs are in disarray already

Don't underestimate Brentford.  Narrowly missed Premiership and with their tails up, full of enthusiasm and young talent. I hope it isn't banana skin time.

Except they're not in the Premier League? (Premiership doesn't exist)

I don’t think it’ll too different to that, although Jankewitz came off early for the B team so possibly injured. I think we’ll see Slattery in there, and I’d be surprised if Sims doesn’t get a game.

Maybe Put Tella at RM and take out Adams for Obafemi

I can't see much changing from the 1st team. Maybe the keeper. Given the lacklustre display against Palace, the manager will want to get that group firing a bit before Spurs come to town.

Seeing as we had just the half baked marathon v Swansea as our only pre season game, we need the bulk of the first XI playing to get the cohesion that was missing on Saturday. Win this, win Sunday, then maybe dick about with the line up next week.

judging from the picture that the club have put up this morning.

-----------------Forster-------------------

KWP   Bednarek  Salisu Vokins

----------JWP--------   Romeu----------

Bad feeling about this one but would it be a massive loss unless we really go for this cup? (ie play full 1st team, which won't happen). Think banana skin was invented for this one.

I'd give JWP a break to manage his minutes given his endurance records from last season or at least limit him to 60mins

I agree especially after his recent international duties

I don't think there will be many changes at all. You'd imagine that Forster, Djenepo and Vestergaard will play and possibly Obafemi but most of the first team players need minutes.

If we didn't need the game for our first 11 to build fitness and match sharpness, I'd like to see some youngsters playing, but unless there's a risk of injury, I can't see anyone apart from McCarthy being "rested".

It is realistically our best chance at winning a trophy, so really good to see Ralph taking this seriously. All the nonsense spouted about the premier league being the  most important thing.....🤦

We aren’t going to go down so may as well take the cups seriously 🤞🤞
