Um Bongo Posted 22 January, 2009 Posted 22 January, 2009 Southampton captain Kelvin Davis is determined to help head coach Jan Poortvliet steer the club to Championship safety this season. With 18 games left, Saints are second bottom of the table, with just one home league win this campaign. Davis told BBC Radio Solent: "The coach is demanding a fighting spirit from us, and we want to give him that." This week, Saints' plc chairman Rupert Lowe held "constructive" team-building discussions with the staff and players. "The gaffer is a passionate man, and he wants football to be played the right way," Davis added. I've got the Southampton bug. I love it here, and I want to stay Southampton keeper Kelvin Davis "We need to take our opportunities, keep clean sheets, and hopefully look back at this period as a big learning curve." Off the pitch, Saints' financial position remains precarious and the threat of administration cannot be ruled out. Davis is considered one of the club's most saleable assets. However, the 28-year-old has re-iterated his desire to remain at the St Mary's Stadium. "I've got the Southampton bug. I love it here, and I want to stay," he added. "The finances at the club though have shown that it doesn't always matter what the player wants. Sometimes money dictates. "Hopefully I'll stay here though. I want to stay, and I enjoy playing for Southampton Football Club." The Southampton bug - I have it.
Huffton Posted 22 January, 2009 Posted 22 January, 2009 The Southampton Bug - a bit like a Norovirus in how sick it makes you....
Matthew Le God Posted 22 January, 2009 Posted 22 January, 2009 I see they have his age at only 28 Relegation fights take years off
Leslie Charteris Posted 22 January, 2009 Posted 22 January, 2009 "The finances at the club though have shown that it doesn't always matter what the player wants. Sometimes money dictates. "Hopefully I'll stay here though. I want to stay, and I enjoy playing for Southampton Football Club." I hope that this isn't the OS softening us up for Kelvin's sale before the end of the month. If that happens, all the fighting spirit in the world won't save us...
Stu Man Do Posted 22 January, 2009 Posted 22 January, 2009 What a ledge "Ive caught the southampton bug" Good man top keeper this year certainly earning his money at the moment!
The Godfather Posted 22 January, 2009 Posted 22 January, 2009 What a ledge "Ive caught the southampton bug" Good man top keeper this year certainly earning his money at the moment! One of the few experinced players who are earning his money at the moment. Player of the season to date.
Windmill Arm 2 Posted 22 January, 2009 Posted 22 January, 2009 More fan rousing bullshyte before the next damp squib.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 22 January, 2009 Posted 22 January, 2009 More fan rousing bullshyte before the next damp squib. shut up skate!
St Marco Posted 22 January, 2009 Posted 22 January, 2009 Can only imagine how many points adrift at the bottom we would be if Davis had not been in the form he is. Lets hope he stays because we need him more then any of the others for sure.
rpb Posted 22 January, 2009 Posted 22 January, 2009 club SPIN..!!!! Why not? If he said all that then they would be daft not to use it.
Jonnyboy Posted 22 January, 2009 Posted 22 January, 2009 Keepers can go for ages - Be great if he stayed until he's 35 or something and becomes a "proper" legend, opens a kebab shop etc
Junior Mullet Posted 23 January, 2009 Posted 23 January, 2009 Model professional. We can only hope his example rubs off on the youngsters.
Bailey Posted 23 January, 2009 Posted 23 January, 2009 A top keeper with a first class attitude. Good to hear him reiterating his commitment to Saints, especially when it could be so easy to ask for a transfer. Lets hope we beat the drop and tie him down to a new, long-term contract!
pittdogg Posted 23 January, 2009 Posted 23 January, 2009 its funny. were in the position were in and the only player i can say has put his heart into southampton and actually gives a damm is davis. he is definitely my favourite player by far
Saint Bones Posted 23 January, 2009 Posted 23 January, 2009 And to top it all off he had to take a fair ammount of stick from us when he first joined. Risen above it and proved he really is a class keeper. Well Done KD - Start spreading that bug
St.Patrik Posted 23 January, 2009 Posted 23 January, 2009 Same thing on OS now http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/?page_id=11259 This do sounds like its part of Mr.Lowes PR-spin again sadly.
Mole Posted 23 January, 2009 Posted 23 January, 2009 KD deserves the upmost respect. He came to Saints and rightly earnt a reputation as a flapper and got loads of grief but he battled on and came good. If he does honour his pledge to stay loyal he'll be remembered fondly long after his retirement and will always be a true Saint.
West End Saint Posted 23 January, 2009 Posted 23 January, 2009 Fair play to Kelvin he has had his critics when he 1st joined and took some stick some deserved some not but this season he has been class we could do with a few more with a bit fight and playing for the shirt for me he is our player of the season already. UTS
david in sweden Posted 23 January, 2009 Posted 23 January, 2009 (edited) I truly think this fella is great: Always saying he wants to stay, he's playing well, Kelvin Davis has well and truly impressed me this season. Thumbs up KD ..yes I agree ! ....and where are the queues of fans who wanted to get shot of him last season, eh ?. You can't blame keepers alone for every goal that goes past them, and KD has had more than his fair share of critics before..now that he's playing better than ever...everyone calls him hero. Even in the heady days of the mid 1980's ..when our goalie was a certain PETER SHILTON... we still had a negative goal difference at the end of several seasons, and on one occasion Shilton stood in goal and we lost 0-7 away. Even the VERY best can't avoid criticism. NO, I'm not saying KD is as good as...!!!! I'm glad he's still here. Good thread Big Bald Si ........and well done KD Edited 23 January, 2009 by david in sweden
Thedelldays Posted 23 January, 2009 Posted 23 January, 2009 cork says something positive about the club and it is PR spin....Kelvin on the other hand.......... it seems we all hear what we want to hear really

Good thread Big Bald Si ........and well done KD I agree with the sentiments expressed but I am certain that Shilton didn't let seven in against Everton - Granger let six in in 1986 when Shilton was injured (we lost 1 - 6)...

Exactly right. Granger used to play in goal for a club I used to play for, centuries ago.
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 23 January, 2009 Posted 23 January, 2009 Good work KD! A vote of confidence for Jan from our captain and he's gone. You know what to do now, KD - just talk of your support for Lowe and he won't see out the weekend!!
Draino76 Posted 23 January, 2009 Posted 23 January, 2009 cork says something positive about the club and it is PR spin....Kelvin on the other hand.......... it seems we all hear what we want to hear really Hey come on TDD; you're right about th GAZA situation, but Cork left at the earliest opportunity and KD has taken the **** and wants to stay. He the man.
