Why have you picked Delgado as a comparison?

Because he also turned up injured, didn't play for ages, and his situation was also shrouded in 'mystery'??

I would have thought that would be pretty obvious.

Why do you think he picked Delgado as a comparison?

I actually didn't remember that, that's why I asked!

All I recall about Delgado was he was Ecuadoran striker who came from the Mexican league along with his mate Kleber Chala, so wasn't sure what comparison he was trying to make! Thanks for clearing that up - my memory is usually pretty good but that transfer was nearly 20 (!) years ago...

Keep thinking back to LeG’s comment ‘it’s not easy to be Salisu at the moment’. Passing of a relative which means training OK but match focus more challenging? Had COVID and taking time to recover fully to get up to Ralph levels of fitness? Positioning and awareness of Ralph’s system taking longer? Vegan Forres Mk2?

OK...so what injuries can you have that means you can compete in first team training but can't play any reserve games etc?

Is he competing in first team training, though?

All we've seen are pictures of him standing alone, knocking a ball around casually - not sure there's been any footage of him sprinting and tackling and seemingly taking a full part in sessions.

Saints comms need to start being a bit honest about quite what the problem with Salisu is. The speculation is helping nobody.

Why? If he has personal issues it's no one elses business and if Ralph has decided he's not right for the first team then that's the managers call. Why people are demanding statements from the club is incredible, pathetic and needy.

I think we just have to wait, clearly something going on which is private.  He's not been at the club that long.

Seems that way. The fact that there is a press embargo suggests something personal or legal.  In any event, it's not our business. Hopefully Salisu is ok and he'll get to play at some point soon.

TBF the club could make some sort of general statement which respects the privacy of the player. Would have the added advantage of stopping some of the speculation.

Or make up a really worrying lie - make the truth look mild when it's revealed.  That's how I manage my relationship.

Im sure they're not worried about a load of helmets panicking on a mongboard, nor should they be.

Of course it is our business, it is almost the definition of being our business. Doesn't mean they should blurt it out everywhere, but some sort of holding statement with some well though out weasel words would do a lot for cutomer confidence and customer relations.

I think if you've got the same mongs speculating all over social media or writing to the club that's probably not great for the player who I imagine would like to be left alone.

No it’s not. I’ve known a few work colleagues had personal issues, be they family related, mental or physical health, financial or even just complex personal circumstances, who’ve required time off work. I’m sure there are 5 times as many I never knew about because they didn’t want it going beyond their immediate supervisor and close friends, let alone a ‘holding statement’ in the national press.

He’s an employee, we’re customers. As long as we’re being provided with the product we’ve been paying for, I.e. a game of professional football, things like this are none of our business. Telling everyone won’t bring him in any quicker so it serves no purpose other than to satisfy people’s nosiness.

Behave. We have no right to know anything. There's clearly something not right, hence the press embargo, but we have no right to know what that is just because we're "customers".

Personally I find it a little bit weird a creepy that grown adults think thet have a right to know personal information on young footballers

Some weird comments on here. He'll obviously play when he's ready, not sure how it matters to anyone that he's not currently available. The whole point of having a squad is that there are others who can cover when people aren't fit or able to play.

Obviously we all want the best 11 players fit each week but that's obviously not going to happen all the time.

Okay its time to tell you what is really going on.

Saints can't locate where Mohammed is because we were sent his brother instead who, lets just say is not very good at football.

This is why we are getting shots of him standing on a ball rather than playing with a ball as he can't kick it properly.

We hope to solve it soon as we've had a tip off that he's working in a casino in Madrid.

I can understand why it's a big hush hush as we would be the biggest laughing stock in history.

Manchester United already did this with Pogba. They got the one who played for Partick Thistle and Crewe, while the one who played for Juventus retired.

To be honest if I was going to put the pieces together I'd guess it's a combination of culture shock, his original injury, being homesick, covid isolation and having no family in country (assumption) and him not being able to travel (assumption).

Hope the club are putting in the effort to occupy him after training etc to help him through the days.

Anyway the other teams are lucky cos hes gonna eat centre forwards for breakfast when he's ready.

The club has had a track record of  poorly judged transfers, bringing in players for substantial fees, only to see them fail to  hold a place in the first team.  Fans all know the list of names in recent years, some sold on for a loss, others still on the club's books but loaned out.  With changes in the recruitment department it was hoped this period was behind us, but now we have all this discussion over Salisu.  For a fee of over £10m, most clubs would expect a player who could turn 0ut straightaway but instead, we've just had excuses.  Surely, if he wasn't ready, the club should have spent the money on a player who was.  Sadly, many fans seem to be losing trust in what the club has to say.

An injury to one of the first choice CBs shouldn't be a crisis but we have one CB who was a regular not now playing as convincingly, one international CB out on loan, and our newly purchased CB, who would normally be expected to step straight into the team.  But it's Salisu, so just what is going on?

Rubbish. He is part of the product, professional footballers are not straightforward employees, and we are supporters, not simply customers, a professional football club is not the same as Tesco's. Of course it is our business. I'm not saying all of the personal details should be openly made public, but to deny it is our business is simply effing gross stupidity. Its a difficult situation but some sort of explanation is certainly owing, or at least an acknowledgement that there is an issue, just as a holding position. Sadly this Club, in the guise of its current and recent ownership, has a history of keeping the supporters in the dark, ask about Sam McQueen (at least until last week).

Only if you believe we are merely customers. We aren't customers, we are supporters. I haven't been a customer for about 3 years now, I still continue to be a supporter, as I have for the last 54 years. It is clearly our business, not as you say. Doesn't mean we should learn any more, but to say it is "none of our business" is just dumb. If you had said we should mind our own business I would tend to agree with you, but you didn't.

We'll agree to differ on the subject. It's obvious that there's an issue. The club telling us that a) takes us nowhere and b) limited information leads to more speculation.

In keeping quiet the club are doing the right thing by the player. He's the important person in this, not you.

I'm going to drop my 'dog with bone' routine from here on in, as its quite obvious there is something awry of a sensitive nature and wholeheartedly agree that we should respect Salisu's privacy in this regard.

My beef has only ever been directed at the club for the way they have drip fed fans seemingly misleading information... In September we were told he was almost ready and would likely be available after the first international break. We were then told in October that he was 'close' and would be in contention after the second international break. Two international breaks later and the vibes are that he isn't going to be ready any time soon.

Ok, I accept that circumstances change and maybe at the various times the club said he was he was 'almost ready' he was indeed at that stage of readiness, but then had a relapse. Maybe, maybe not. Who knows.

Anyway, my apologies for banging on about it over the last few months. All the best to him and here's hoping whatever the issue is resolves itself as soon as possible.

Over and out.

"We are delighted that he chose to sign for us. Unfortunately when he was being measured for his training kit we discovered that one of the toes on his left foot is in fact a life-sized clone of Jimmy Krankie. An investigation is underway to determine how our world-class team failed to notice this during his extensive medicals. Wee Jimmy KrankieToe is now undergoing intensive training on how to become a premier league quality appendage. We are pleased with his progress and expect Salisu and Jimmy to make their debut soon."

Yeah... probably best if revert back to my "this squad is good enough for top 10" schtick of last season... much more positive :)

I get that something is going on that demands his privacy (although even the most disastrous events in my life didn't allow me to take this much time off work), but it really would be just our luck to spend that money on a CB who is good enough but ends up leaving for a pittance without ever playing because something happened that ruined his perception of the place.

Asked about Salisu, who could provide competition for the likes of Vestergaard, Jan Bednarek and Jack Stephens when deemed fit to feature, the Dane said: “Obviously I’ve seen a lot more of him than the fans have.

“But he has had issues, so he hasn’t been training at a hundred per cent until now, which is obviously then difficult to judge someone when they haven’t.

“But he looks comfortable on the ball, has an amazing physique and is just generally a nice guy.

“Quiet for now, but it’s always difficult coming as a new player, so maybe he’s just saving up his words for later!

“But I think he’s a big talent and he has a lot of years ahead of him.

“His English is better than I expected and he both understands everything

Not really very surprising he can speak English. Salisu is Ghanaian and English is the official national language of Ghana.

Remember reading something previously, after signing for a club earlier in his career that he appeared painfully shy and struggled to get on initially.

Maybe just needs some time.

Have seen this word used before, that Salisu has, or has had, "issues".  It's in the remarks attributed to Verstergaard and previously, I believe Hassenhuttl said the same thing.  But what are "issues"?  The term is so wide as to be meaningless.  Just what is the problem?  Salisu's signing was publicised as the first major recruitment of the last transfer window but we have yet to see him play.  Does anyone know if he's turned out for the B team?

Given that Salisu's signing represents a significant proportion of the club's transfer budget, it's understandable that fans want to know more.
