I actually went along to see this as local to the area. Entertaining enough but in truth we were outplayed by Woking, especially in the second half.
Was pretty disappointed with what I saw, they certainly didn’t keep to the RM philosophy- really struggled to keep possession, and the back line was undone many times by Woking.

Rory MacLeod was a bright spark when he came on, aside from that nobody really stood out as ‘one to watch’.
Two of our pens hit the post and the 3rd was a good save.

Hopefully a good learning experience, very low crowd turnout - c 100 - so not sure if this competition is really a good idea for the national sides…

I can't see it lasting, fans of National league clubs gave it a big thumbs down when announced,  Eastleigh even opted out of it. Just rubbed salt into the wounds after they voted to stop replays in a proper competition (the FA Cup)

Giving away possession in dangerous areas and getting undone at the back? That sounds exactly like the first team.

It’s not.  Good for the academy sides, of course.  Thanks for posting your thoughts on the game.

agree totally Super SAINT.   Very few of these lads are likely to.. " do a Dibling " ..and get into the first team squad at such a

young age, but they will gain more experience with loan-outs to lower league sides before they get past theU21 stage.

When the time comes to get a loan out,  the likes of Woking will be first to ask about our best talents that they played against.

Seemingly, our lads put in a good show and equalised by scoring two goals in added time.  Woking will be a tad disappointed that

the game had to go to penalties before they could beat a team of teenagers.

Like the Premier League / Championship comparison, the difference between U21 football (where they play their own age group )

and  L1  / L2 sides where they will get a real taste of  "men's football"  is enormous, and will be invaluable in their future development,

regardless of the final score in such games.

U21s losing at half time 2 0 away to Wealdstone in the National League Cup.

That’s not important - need to know the possession stats, please. Bravery level too if possible

Bit of an epidemic at Saints

Wonder if there is a bit of “what’s the point” setting in.
