Cheers. Any idea which one wore number 7? Someone on the UI said he stole the show.

Not 100% sure, but think #7 was the Millwall forward, mate.

Number 7 was Abdul Abdulmalik (ex-Millwall).

Was on trial at Pompey but they couldn't afford the compensation (😂)

Doh.  This stuff happens anyway, but Brexit has ramped this stuff up to the max.  Was a good article in the Athletic about City’s academy, if you haven’t seen it, @Dusic.

Yes - good article. They have 30 something Eng U15- 21s players and 5 of the 6 Eng age group captains are from City. Absolutely mad.

From looking through that Rising Ballers account Villa and Leeds have been very active in signing academy talents this summer. Saints mentioned as interested in a couple but would imagine being in div 2 of PL2 isnt a great selling point - the top talents surely want to play against the best players, Livramento being a good example.

The 14-18s is very, very cuthroat in terms of recruitment. If Saints had a top talent in future to the level of a Walcott or Shaw I can't see how we would keep them long enough to get them into the first team. Sad but true, even for a PL side with a strong (if diminishing) Academy reputation.

Also re Abdul Abdulmalik, have done some reading on him and seems he is a striker who did well for Millwall U23s last year aged 17/18 but has refused their contract which has pissed of Gary Rowett who thinks he has had some bad advice. He is small but strong and quick. Aside from Mitchell we dont really have any good U23 strikers so can see why we would be keen. Will be interesting to see if he plays in the next B team friendly. Regardless of whether these lads make it to the first team, its very beneficial to be promoted for the reasons above so the stronger the team can be the better, including someone like Lancashire.

Spot on about Villa & Leeds.  It seems such a sensible idea to me that (if the budget stretches) signing young players for 500k-£1m.  When you consider the numbers we poured into somebody like Wesley Hoedt.

The Athletic had a good piece on Leeds from around a year ago - Their plan after they got promoted was to completely re-vamp their U23's. They even have a "Head of Emerging talent".

I know it's only just happened, but the Simeu & the Abdul trial represent a potential move forward to how we could possibly approach things post-brexit Slightly older players from big-clubs with a blocked pathway and/or lower-league players who have been missed but have peaked slightly older.

Anyone gone to watch this? Would be interested to know if Abdul Abdulmalik is playing again.

He could be one of the trialists, not sure what you would learn in a friendly against Salisbury though.

Trialist A who is still unknown (its not Ethan Ross the Aberdeen guy) scored just after HT to make it 2-0 to Saints. Olaigbe got the first. Now 2-1 pen rebound after a Simeu handball.

Triallist B now on, seems to be Abdulmalik.

Yeah, same 2 trialists.

That Abdulmailk fella is actually quite highly rated isn't he. If he's the guy from Milwall then Arsenal were sniffing around him.

He is.  Was at Watford for 2 weeks recently, too.

Rowett certainly not impressed with his agent(s).

Played the last game.  Wasn't involved today.

Still no sign of Allan Tchaptchet...

Cheers. Wasn't Tchaptchet rumoured to be on his way? Shame if so.

Believe so. Bit of a shame.  Lost his place to Lancashire ;)

Benni no.9 looked our best player tonight

That’s what friend said he was very impressed by him.

He thought Simeu had good game and said Saints were good could have been more.

Interesting - so wasn’t Ethan Ross then in the last two games.

Correct. Similar positions but I think most people assumed it was him who watched both games.

He has this afternoon been removed from the B Team profiles on the OS.  Not overwhelming evidence (e.g. James Morris is still there) but a good indicator.

I love the randomness of whoever updates that page.

It can make the club a nightmare to research for FM! 😁

Do I release Tchaptchet from my FM file or don't I!?

If I had to guess I’d say do it.

@Over land and sea’s spot re: the OS profile can’t be coincidence.

We definitely seem to be focussing on filling our youth and reserve teams with a few more quality youngsters. Makes me wonder if Ralph is buying in for the longer long term and is prepared to accept a lack of first team investment for another season.

Maybe! No guarantees any of the trialists sign, though.

I hadn’t seen this - cheers for posting, MLG.

It’s going to be interesting to see how we get on this season with such a young group…

To get an idea of the changes made within less than a year:

Matt Crocker, at the last fans-forum used the B-Team’s 5-2 Man City U23 victory as the benchmark for the season as it featured the strongest team that we had.
———————————————-
• 16 players were in the match day squad
• 1 is now with the First team
• 2 are still with the B Team
• 8 aren't at the club anymore
• 4 are out on loan
• Valery is TBC

Lost 4-0 to Chelsea today not surprised

Thinking positively, we’d have probably lost 8-0 if we hadn’t taken some of their players.

😂😂😂

I’m amazed we haven’t bought more players to supplement them.
