Yeah, I wasn’t trying to suggest he was not alright. I can see how it might have come across. I meant that he is very happy to talk about Saints and his football career!

Oh no I wasn’t particularly thinking you were suggesting Jim wasn’t alright, I was just saying brother Robert was alright (although actually there was a thinly veiled undercurrent of him disliking all things English).

Ivan Golac used to be a close neighbour of mine. He bought his new house in Chandlers Ford in 1980 at the same time as we bought ours. His two daughters were of a similar age to our daughter so they used to play together a lot and went to school together.

I had many chats with him and he came into our house to watch our FA Cup game at Old Trafford because he didn’t have Sky TV. A lovely chap.

We once had a Christmas lights ceremony in Eastleigh we had Richard Hall and Neil Heaney as celebrities and I escorted them around the town and we had a bit of a chat.

When I used to play Sunday football at Hursley for IBM’s second team Charlie George would sometimes stop and watch us (me!) playing when he was walking his dog. I believe he lived in one of the newer house at the southern end of the village opposite the stone seat.

Met Vestergaard a year ago (or was it two?) when we had just bought him, and hadn't kicked a ball for us.

Outside, in the restaurant area, below Showcase Cinema. He was out with his lady, getting to see Southampton, night stroll. Was probably surprised when a guy he had never met said "Hi Jannik. Welcome to Southampton. Hope you have a good season." He just laughed and said "ok thank you."

I bet he tells that story on a Danish message board to this day. :)

Brian O'Neil grabbed my balls on my way into the disco carriage on the League Liner train (anyone remember them, the 1st rail charters to have TVs and head phones), after the 0-0 draw at Man Utd in the 1973-4 relegation season. I was doubled up in pain on the floor, much to the mirth of my 'mates'.

Also I bade 'good morning' to Ron Davies at Central station, I was on my way to work at the Ordnance Survey and he was on his way to training with the Skates. A nod in reply was all that was necessary to make my day.

Had a pint with Austin Hayes in the Gaumont at a Peter Gabriel(RIP) gig  .Lovely bloke, just not as prolific as Steve Moran, so he had to move on.

Chris Nicoll offered me a lift to Uni when I was skiving off as usual,, but I didn't take him up on it, as I didn't even remember what lectures I had that day.

Also had the pleasure of interviewing Mick Channon for Red Stripe in a pub at West Isley. Absoutely fantastic and entertaining bloke. I would hate to be his accountant as he had this massive wad of notes in  his pocket and he was getting them in for everyone who walked in the door. Alan forgot to switch the recorder on so him and Dave Bull went back a week later to do it again.

Think I’ve mentioned this on here before but I once spotted Jaidi & Schneiderlin in Oceana after a home defeat. Naturally I thought it was a good idea to tell them what went wrong and how they need to improve. Suffice to say the ‘conversation’ didn’t last long and I was quickly ushered away. 😂

Met Rodrigues in a late night curry house in Bedford place. I walked in with a traffic cone on my head at the time and it hit the inside of the door causing it to cut into my nose.

Anyway I saw him and I started shouting ‘Everyone this is Peter Rodrigues who lifted the cup in 76, What was it like Peter?’
He was okay about it but was more concerned about the blood running down my face at the time.

Top bloke :)
