Ridiculous. Ings is our main striker. If he's gone we have someone else, either here or a signing. You've no idea how that striker does over 38 games. As good as Ings? Almost certainly not. Zero goals and relegation, almost certainly not.

Shane Long is good for a good four a season, for a kick off. Seriously, some people.

Bearing in mind we’ve played two up top all season, that means Long, Adams and MO’B have more combined minutes on the pitch than Ings. Between them they’ve scored 7 league goals. Gives a rough but not entirely accurate representation of our other strikers over 38 games.

That said, we stayed up two years in a row with that useless plank Austin as our top scorer on 6/7, so I guess it’s plausible.

I’ve heard that Ings wants out........

from taking penalties because he gets too nervous.

If JWP can’t hit the target then who do we have.

Long, Redmond?

Bertrand has taken one for us and looked confident and scored. Give him a go!

Personally I think if we're offered £60M + then Goa would sell, same with Hojberg and £25M. In theory we've got plenty of players on loan ready to come back. Bye Ings and Hojberg, hello Harrison Reed and Guido Carillo.

I think that’s a bit on the pessimistic side, after all we signed Adams this season as a replacement for Austin. Reed you could well be right about but you’d be mentally ill to replace Ings with Carrillo.

With Adams and Obafemi you would like to think they have the potential to score 15 goals each a season but they aren't a 20+ goal strikers. We need to keep Ings but got to be £75mill + in today's market, I would like us to go after Ollie Watkins from Brentford maybe loan him back for a season but he could easily fit into the plans as has pace and works hard and can score although will come at a price.

MLG is coming for you & there's nothing you can do about it.

Saints aren't going to beat a host of other Premier League clubs and sign Watkins for circa £20m only to loan him back to the Championship. That is unrealistic and nonsensical.

If his form since the restart is more than just a purple patch and that of a player that is now fully adapted, then Adams is capable of 15+ goals over a season. No guarantee Watkins will perform at this level either, or at least perform better than Adams.

I kinda get what you're saying, there is a huge reliance on Ings and a long-term injury to him and our season is pretty much in tatters. I hope Adams form wasn't just a purple patch, but there are still elements of his game he needs to improve on.

But you certainly wouldn't loan Watkins back, if he was an unproven/young player from L1/L2 - maybe, but this is a guy ready for the PL...he'd be straight in most bottom half teams squads.

I still don t think it was necessary to extend long s contract.

That basically prevents us from buying another striker in the next few years unless Obafemi or Adams leave.

Not sure how good he is. Maybe I only saw him during Brentford's wobble.

But we had someone who has done it in that league and now had an excellent month in the premier league. We clearly saw long term potential in Adams and want to persist with him, even if fans give up really easily. We have 2 really good strikers to start and 2 back up, we won't be signing any more will we.

Plus there's always the option of playing Redmond up front and starting Djenpo. I'd like to see that some games, think he could partner Adams or Ings well.

Big changes seem daft when we have such a set way of playing and it's getting results. Only starting change I'd expect is Salisu. Romeu will probably start the season and maybe Reed pushing for his place.

I wasn't questioning if Watkins was good enough or not. My point was that a club like Saints isn't going to sign a player for circa £20m and then loan him straight back out. We tend to wait until they fail here first before we loan them out! 😉
