Developed that streak which we know he needed to add to his game. Top player, and one we need to tie down to a long contract.

According to those prem league stats the other outfield players currently to have played throughout are Tarkowski (Burnley have played 37) Baldock Coady Maguire Rice Van Dijk Six, as correctly stated by the OP. And apart from Rice, all the others are defenders. Pretty impressive feat from JWP, particularly given the amount of running he does and the frequency of games since lockdown.

I admit to being a long time critic of JWP - and until this season a lot of the criticism and frustration seemed justified. Fair play to him though; he has found a position in midfield, continued his high energy work rate and improved the quality of his pressing, tackling and interceptions. Much bolder with his passing and seems more confident in his own skin. Deserves all the praise he's getting this season.

He's instilled a very different mindset in all the players: aggressive out of possession and quick, positive movement if we can win the ball with the opposition out of shape. I'd say JWP gas embraced that as well as anyone.

As you say, the aggressive out of possession style and the quick, positive movement upon winning the ball has been embraced by all our players......well maybe Obafemi needs to buy in a bit more.

Baldock is a wing back to be fair, that is a lot of running as well. But should also be noted that we are not a possession side and he (JWP) is not just a sitting midfielder in a 3, so it is very impressive. 1

Because their games have had more injury time than ours have.

The Covid break has really helped us. Before that we had turned a corner from the rubbish we were serving up in the first third of the season but we still rarely put a decent 90 minutes together. Since the break we've had one bad game but have been very consistent apart from that. The acid test will be the start of next season to see if we can carry on this consistency (of performance, if not result).

The players didn't really embrace Ralph's methods for that first run of tough fixtures, after that result, it seems everyone was on board to turn it around and we've been more like a top 8 team than a bottom 3 team in pretty much everything. Shows how far application, hard work and teamwork can get you considering the massive change in performances and results from the same bunch of players. Edited 25 July, 2020 by tajjuk

cambsaint Posted 27 July, 2020 Posted 27 July, 2020 Have always thought JWP a skilful and clever player, but in the last couple of years he has got musch stronger and now can't be bullied off ball. He is maturing into a very fine player and I there is still more to come Saint's players' fitness has amazed me after the break, they have been good for every game, always finishing much stronger than their opponents. Well done to all concerned., especially Ralph. He has moulded what was always a good squad of players, although not well led, into an excellent team. Just hope we can buy KWP, but would you sell him????

He'd need to play every game for 9 more seasons to get close to 600 appearances, he ain't getting that far. Shame that he was so out of favour the last couple seasons really.
