Final Games Predictions

It is looking very tight between the clubs in the middle of the table. How do you think the last few matches will pan out for these clubs? How will they do in each match and therefore where will they and we finish? I experimented with some possible results (albeit I was quite negtive in some of my predictions for other clubs and quite opimistic for Saints) and it is pretty clear that it would be highly unlikely for us to qualify for Europe even if Man City's ban is upheld on Monday:

This would place the positions from 6 to 14 as follows:

6 Wolves

7 Burnley

8 Spurs

9 Sheff Utd

10 Saints

11 Arsenal

12 Everton

13 Newcastle

14 Palace

OK - I accept this is unlikely but it's not impossible. Indeed, in this scenario we would only miss out on Europa League qualification on goal difference!

How would you predict the other club's results and ours? How do you see it finishing?

One of the interesting things with this 'prediction' is that if Man City get reinstated to European qualification or if a team finishing below 8th wins the FA Cup then both Spurs and Everton would miss out on European qualification. What impact would that have on Hojbjerg's transfer?!

We won’t get Europe and I don’t think we were ever truly in contention, but it was a nice thought seeing as our post break form has been decent. Too many points dropped earlier in the season. Still I think we’ll finish 11th or 12th (depending on Everton’s results) with 50/51 points. A decent finish to a very weird season and something to build on next season.

United: Lose 3-1

Brighton: Draw 1-1

Bournemouth : Win 3-1

Sheffield United: Win 1-0

If we were fighting relegation those are a very favourable last 3 fixtures but with little to play for Besides league position, we just have to hope Ralph keeps the players fighting until the end, or we could easily fizzle out and get maybe 4 more points.

One more win, at least one loss and at least one draw.

I think we'll finish on 48 or 49 points. We were never in contention for Europe, I think 10th still feels very unlikely.

I hope Ralph is aiming for 50.

At the beginning of the season I reckoned we had a squad capable of finishing in the top 10. With 4 games to go that's still achievable. Sticking with that prediction at the moment. #madness

I'd agree with all that, Brighton and Sheff Utd at home are just the sort of games we have been struggling with this season, hard to know how those sides will approach the game depending on what's at stake. Bournemouth might just throw everything at us if last chance for survival , that would suit us.

united lose

win the others=9 points- finish 9th.

I thought that until I mapped out the results and realised that even with 53 points we might still only be looking at 10th position. Of course it depends entirely upon the results of others, but we shall see. Hopefully you are right and we can get 9 points and Sheff Utd, Spurs or Burnley will do less well than I have predicted, though I have only put Spurs down to get 4 points and Sheff Utd 2 points, so if anyone is goinbg to do less bad than I have predicted it is more likely to be Burnley.

(PS I have now posted the table as text instead of html so hopefully it is now readable!)
