Ralph on many occasions has used SL for this purpose and unlike you, seems to value his contribution ! For sure, the Watford match was not his best but in the wider scheme of things he still has a role to play and a lot to offer, hence his new contract ! Plus the interview with PEH a while back where he said the two fastest players he played with were Sané and Long.

I struggle to understand how anyone who watches Long play, especially alongside Ings, cannot see how him being on the pitch helps the team.

Players say all sorts of unlikely things bigging up their colleagues. As for PEH, I guess he must never have been on the field at the same time as Arjen Robben, who could run as fast or faster than long with the ball under control.
striker Posted 2 July, 2020 Posted 2 July, 2020 Thought City would be looking past Liverpool today knowing we were on deck 😀
rallyboy Posted 3 July, 2020 Posted 3 July, 2020 They've clearly tired themselves out and will be nervous coming to our fortress. 0-0.
Charlie Wayman Posted 3 July, 2020 Posted 3 July, 2020 4-0 v Liverpool. Looks like City intend to start next season on the front foot by humiliating their only rivals at the end of this one. Let's not be stupid enough to assume that the Bindippers took their collective feet off the gas - "nothing to play for" crap - City looked good and we could be in for a torrid time on Sunday. Ralph has been so focussed on getting to 40 points that some players might assume that the season's goals have been met.
LaptopSaint Posted 3 July, 2020 Posted 3 July, 2020 Hopefully now they've done the Dippers they'll be fully focussed on the FA Cup and the Champions League. 2-0 Saints (Long, Adams).

SNSUN Posted 3 July, 2020 Posted 3 July, 2020 A game like this is absolutely a free hit and a heavy loss wouldn’t make a blind bit of difference to our season... however it’s Prime Time on Sunday on the Beeb. We’ve already been spanked once on live TV this season at home, let’s hope for a closer game against City. 3 tough games now, all 3 are in form. Just have to hope City rotate their team a bit and lack cohesion. 3-1 loss though IMO.

Manuel Posted 3 July, 2020 Posted 3 July, 2020 (edited) We have more to play for than they do...namely league position. City are only playing for pride now. I think they turned on the gas against Liverpool to prove a point. Hoping they will be a bit more relaxed against little old Saints. Edited 3 July, 2020 by Manuel
ButtikonSaint Posted 4 July, 2020 Posted 4 July, 2020 Fair to say we don't have much to lose on Sunday bar a spanking in front of a worldwide TV audience. RH has a few games to figure out some youngsters though unsure if a home game vs a rampant Man City is a fit Would still give Che and Will some game time, they deserve it and seem ready - maybe give Ingsy a little run out from the bench and unleash him at Everton. From the injury reports, looks like we're going to be light on seniors anyway. Front four of Redmond, Amstrong/Moussa, Adams and Long might make for an entertaining game COYS

We have 6 games to play in 3 weeks and Ings is in the form of his life and in the running for the Golden Boot. He's had a week's rest since our last game and he looks the fittest player on the pitch. Do you seriously think he'll want to make do with a little run out from the bench?
Shroppie Posted 4 July, 2020 Posted 4 July, 2020 (edited) Looks like McCarthy KWP Stephens Bednarek Bertrand Romeu/Smallbone JWP Armstrong Redmond Ings Long/Obafemi Gunn, Danso, Vokins, Smallbone/Romeu, Adams, Long/Obafemi, Djenepo plus random two from Academy. Edited 4 July, 2020 by Shroppie Decided on balance to include a keeper.

gammon cheeks Posted 4 July, 2020 Posted 4 July, 2020 Hopefully Adams will be paired with Ings up front ...Romeu and JWP to continue as the two central mid positions .......KWP will be key in this game ithink.
Charlie Wayman Posted 4 July, 2020 Posted 4 July, 2020 Ralph did brilliantly at his press conference, absolutely outstanding. No wonder hacks are queuing up to hear what he has to say and to ask questions. Good natured, never bristles and never ducks awkward or clumsy questions. We are very lucky to have him. Moments to savour. 1

This is the first time, and probably the only time, that Saints will play a Premier League match on my birthday. And it's televised! So I am fully expecting to see a spectacle to match the most memorable of games in our history. Something like the 6-3 victory we handed out to their neighbours all those years ago (which I was fortunate enough to be at the Dell to watch). A hatrick for Ings and one apiece for JWP, Armstrong and Adams. You heard it here first! 4
Pamplemousse Posted 4 July, 2020 Posted 4 July, 2020 We will almost certainly lose, but I don't care, for the first time in a while, ever since the dark, dark days of Pellegrino, I feel optimistic again. 1
Saints Warrior Posted 4 July, 2020 Posted 4 July, 2020 Use this game as a training exercise ready to thrash Bournemouth. But you never know City could have an off day and send out a weak team

Tamesaint Posted 5 July, 2020 Posted 5 July, 2020 I dreamt last night that we were 3 nil down at halftime. Woke up before the second half started... luckily.
JRM Posted 5 July, 2020 Posted 5 July, 2020 We will lose and in the process set a record for most home defeats in a season. But if we somehow manage to achieve a miracle and win at home that will make us mathematically safe? Will be nice to avoid conceding too many.

Batman Posted 5 July, 2020 Posted 5 July, 2020 They will win....that will be that. On to the next game 1
KingswoodSaint Posted 5 July, 2020 Posted 5 July, 2020 I'm normally the most optimistic Saints fan before games, but after the Liverpool game I really can't see anything other than a defeat here, and lots of City goals. If we can keep the City goal tally below 2 then I'll be a happy man. Obviously I'd love to be proved wrong! Danny will need good service to get shots against them but City are so strong in the midfield, Redmond and Armstrong (or whoever plays wide) will need to be really on it today to get anything forward. My prediction is a 3-1 loss with an Ings goal. Please prove me wrong Saints!! UTS
Saint_clark Posted 5 July, 2020 Posted 5 July, 2020 I think people are forgetting that they would have been a lot more motivated for the Liverpool game. We'll still most likely lose, but don't forget we gave them a tough time at their place shortly after we were destroyed by Leicester when City were still actually in the title race, so no reason to write us off from the word go.
Manuel Posted 5 July, 2020 Posted 5 July, 2020 Expect us to have a good game but if we're in contention with 15 minutes to go, they have the sort of bench to bring on a couple of world beaters that our tired legs won't be able to handle.
davefizzy14 Posted 5 July, 2020 Posted 5 July, 2020 Hoping we can get something out of this despite them being formidable. I would take a 1-1 draw with Ingysy scoring again COYR
Dr. Kucho Posted 5 July, 2020 Posted 5 July, 2020 McCarthy, Walker-Peters, Stephens, Bednarek, Bertrand, Ward-prowse, Armstrong, Romeu, Redmond, Long and Ings starting in a 4-4-2 line up. According to LiveScore
Shroppie Posted 5 July, 2020 Posted 5 July, 2020 McCarthy KWP Stephens Bednarek Bertrand JWP Romeu Armstrong Redmond Ings Adams

Nolan Posted 5 July, 2020 Posted 5 July, 2020 8 English. 1 Scottish, 1 Spanish, 1 Polish. When was the last time we had that ratio?
igsey Posted 5 July, 2020 Posted 5 July, 2020 Glad to see Romeu keeping his place, he was excellent against Watford and more steel than Smallbone would provide (I imagine, anyway).
Shroppie Posted 5 July, 2020 Posted 5 July, 2020 Djenepo, Long, Obafemi on the bench. Otherwise very inexperienced.
gammon cheeks Posted 5 July, 2020 Posted 5 July, 2020 Adams and Ings ...brilliant! Adams will score a couple tonight 1
