Anyone would think Eddie Howe was manager of the season and have pick of what job he likes if you listen to Sky. He took them from 3rd to a spineless relegation team who had a little surge at the end. Culpable

And had five seasons to sort out a defence. Over 60 goals conceded each season, it’s not like the warning signs weren’t there and he didn’t address them.

I'd say it's luck that Sheffield United goal didn't stand, so yes, they were lucky in the end.

If you go down, it’s because you’ve been sh*te for 38 games. No amount of luck will will explain away how bad Watford and Bournemouth have been this season. The fact that a dreadful Villa team beat them by a point is their own fault.

Besides, I’d say Bruno Fernandes somehow winning a penalty instead of being sent off against Villa pretty much evens things up.

And their equaliser at Palace when Grealish was fouled and Kevin Friend blew for a dive...

Scoring 3 to win at Everton but still getting relegated.  That will sound familiar to Saints fans of a certain age.

Very. Remember that day well.

Norwich went down that season as well.

Can’t see much wrong with that side.

What’s your point? That Ward Prowse or Bednarek should be in it?

Who takes notice of Garth Crooks anyway? He is the biggest clown pundit around and is only there for multi cultural reasons IMO

Agreed. But there’s not much wrong with the side he picked. Maybe a couple, but nobody’s going to pick a side everyone agrees with. The poster makes out Crooks is totally out of sync. He’s not on this one.

Except Maguire has been complete sh!te.

It's a highly lazy effort.

Maguire been pretty average, certainly not in best 2 centre backs imo.

16 clean sheets for Pope at Burnley seems much more impressive to me than Ederson getting 17 at City

If I was to argue for any saints inclusion it would be Ings 22 for us is more impressive than Aubameyang's for Arsenal

Despite the Saints tinted glasses, there is definitely a case for rating Ings higher than Vardy, Aubameyang and Mane in the striker department:

Open-play goals
Ings 21
Aubameyang 20
Vardy 19
Mane 18

Minutes per goal (all goals, incl pens)
Ings 128
Vardy 132
Aubameyang 143
Mane 153

Plus it ought to be taken into account how much better Ings needed to be given he wasn't in a top 6 side. (although, of course, Ings's form kicked in at around the same point in the season where we transformed into a top 6 performing side)

It's ridiculous to unilaterally decide that penalties should be disregarded when we know that:

a) Danny Ings had said he doesn't like taking them so he chose not to build his own tally by taking on the responsibility and letting JWP do it

b) he took one of the worst penalties of the entire season only a couple of weeks ago, proving that they aren't the guaranteed goal some might see them as.

Well done Jamie Vardy and what a great season Danny Ings.

I am barking mad though so don't forget to take that into account when judging people :)

You'd decided several weeks ago that twelfth or eleventh qualified as you being proven right about a top half finish so am aware you are somewhat loose with the old numberinos.

I'm totally bonkers, let's face it

(it's 'loose' btw.... ;) )

Penalties is a weird one. Would be odd to win the golden boot if your team somehow got 15 or so penalties and you scored them all with just a handful of goals from open play.

But you can't just discount penalties scored. If Vardy scores 2 out of 2 and Ings 1 out of 2, you would have to give the award to Vardy if they were otherwise tied for goals.

Swansea trying to get promoted in what looks like the kit we sent them down in! Looks like Brentford have found their bottle again after the last few games, Fulham v Brentford final would suit me, both decent away trips

Let's go Brentford!

That should be Swansea done for now.

Couldn't find three more boring promotion candidates than Swansea, Fulham, and Cardiff.

Agree. Hopefully they've got the monkey off their back now and can go on and get promoted.
