Question of Sport axed.

anyone actually still watch this anyway?

There’s that much sports coverage, with plenty of banter and trivia that it’s basically lost any sense of purpose and identity. It’s pretty much just the clios everyone watched on Sportbible or Givemesport on Facebook, several weeks ago, interspersed with a selection of dull talking heads.

On a similar theme, the chat on BBC breakfast this morning about vaginal prolapse isn't idea breakfast listening. There's a time and place for discussion about that and the associated issues.

I heard this on the radio yesterday, and the appalling fact is that she doesn't have control of her money, the council that provides her assisted living runs her bank account and it is they that failed to pay the licence fee, but as it is in her name she was prosecuted.

Oh noes... I just put the radio on for the news.

Now, trapped under the cat I'm stuck with the arts show, that I still think is a parody show.

And here we go...  "the patriarchy" and the presenter's self-awareness of his male privilege.

Strictly?

People I don't know, doing something I'm not interested in, badly, while judges I know even less about plod through pre-rehearsed drivel delivered for dramatic effect to a squealing audience of simpletons - truly dreadful waste of licence fee which we all have to suffer as some people like that sort of thing.

But RB you old misery, people love it...

No, one in every seven love it, the rest of us think it's a sorry circus of flashing lights and shiny shit to distract the hard of thinking and to fill tabloids.

Get the bolt gun.

BBC ads for all their bollocks is annoying. Not aimed at my age group but does seem a lot of inane rubbish.

Also why the fuck do BBC need to be in the Podcast world? Plenty out their already and they could invest in more episodes of Songs of Praise

Just a way of capturing an audience, they are worried about losing.  A bit belatedly, considering how long there have been podcasts. But with the advantage of their resources pushing them.

They seem to be just the same programmes, with "pod cast" tagged on. But some also make use of the format with extended versions. And there can be a lot more of them, and the number of Election and Ameri cast podcasts indicates.

Their news adverts have been annoying me for a while.  They're so patronising. The Radio 5 one, "The world can be a scary and confusing place at times, so lets talk about it", or Katy Kay explaining to simpletons the basic art of conversation, "And sometimes it's important to just listen".  Fuck off.

Much needed, although not a new position, but they could start with some investigative reporting into their own organisation too, it's nice to have posts like this at the junior end, but they need to look at their senior levels.

Depends on the replacement to some degree. No doubt live up to current BBC standards.

But at least we probably won’t be watching the programme next season

What the BBC consistently does well is balanced political documentaries. One on at the mo about immigration and always get good contributors

A few years ago a bunch of JSO protestors broke onto the track after the British GP whilst cars were still circling and Gary took to Twitter to praise their efforts. When Martin Brundle pointed out they were putting the lives of drivers and marshals at risk (not to mention themselves) Lineker doubled down by saying it was for the greater good and that the protesters would be remembered as heroes in years to come. Weirdly he’s never volunteered to remove himself and his own carbon footprint from the world.

Not sure quite what that has to do with his ability on a football pitch and as a TV presenter?

I never said anything about his ability as a footballer, you brought that up. As a TV personality I find him smug and patronising, lecturing people about social issues he has no expertise in.

I think there is a distinction between him as a TV presenter, and as a social media personality. I like him in both capacities, and respect that he puts his personal opinions out there. I suspect people who dislike him, do so because they disagree with his politics. That said, he was paid a daft amount of money and I'm glad to see that money being saved.

According to the News, the BBC didn't offer him a new contract past the end of this season. They are looking into making changes to MOTD. I suppose they will make another mess like they did with A Question of Sport.

Indeed. Apparently there is a new guy in charge of Sport at the BBC and he wants to shake things up a bit. Perhaps he should stick to the if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it philosophy. Some things are like a comfy old jumper, MotD being one of them. It might be old fashioned and a bit frayed at the edges, but it is comforting to know that it is always there on a chill winter’s evening in a format that has barely changed in decades. Something you can rely on in an ever changing world.

He's clearly very popular as a host. He's been doing it for 25 years. During which time the BBC went into throwing money at news and other presenters to keep them away from commercial TV. Then allowing them to moonlight elsewhere too.

Also during that time the BBC were only to happy to push people onto social media, or to be self employed. Only to retrospectively leave them hanging with HMRC and pulling them up if the comments cross over rules they've not made clear.

The news suggests Linekar was keen to stay (and why wouldn't you, even on reduced amounts from such a big deal), but not much chance of the BBC was going to go down that route, after what happened.

QoS was always on borrowed time, rather like TotP, due to the availability of online content. All the videos, stats and personalities etc. are now freely available all over social media and on podcasts, so it no longer had any kind of unique appeal. I can’t remember the last time I watched it TBH.

You said he was smug and self satisfied. I was merely pointing out that he may well be entitled to be so given his successful careers in two very different fields.

I have just seen two woman mentioned as possible replacements. That will ruffle a few feathers.
