alpine_saint Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 Just seen on facebook, that Radio Hants, decided not to mention the march, as alegedly, they would be banned from commentating on future Saints matches. If true, another example of the dictorial practices now employed at our club. Sounds par-for-the-course, though I thought SFC and Radio Hants have a contractual arrangement, I must say...... Mole Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 Radio hants did mention the demo. They commented on how empty the ground was with fans protesting outside.
Mr saint Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 BBC Final Score just estimated about 1,000 fans protesting outside.

SFC Forever Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 (edited) It was a good well behaved protest. A few of us arrived very early and as 1pm approached thought we would have but a few of us. From then on the crowd swelled noticeably and the officer in charge of our police escort was both helpful and cheerful. We started the march promptly at 1pm and followed the course laid down by the police. Everything was kept calm and we grew in numbers all the way to the stadium. As we walked down Britannia road we saw several fans cheering and waving. Walking paround to the front of the stadium the marchers were applauded by several fans. When we congregated outside the stadium a lot of the fans who had cheered us joined in the protest. What we will have achieved may not be a lot. As a first shot across the bows it may well have alerted our supporters that the time to fight has now arrived. My main concern is that whilst talking to other supporters I had several different reasons for joining in the march. Some thought removing Lowe would suffice. Others added Wilde and some the entire board. Not many had a decent suggestion as to who should run the club. I feel therefore, that we need to have this particular problem discussed if possible without abuse and the normal bad mouthing that appears most of the time. We need to be 100% certain of what our aims are in the short and long term. Figures up to a thousand have been quoted for the demonstration and this is encouraging. At this moment in time with the transfer window about to close may I suggest that we leave Wotte out of our sights. Even if we were able to get someone else we would be lumbered with the squad that we now have. Our target must be seen to be that of certain members of the board. The smaller the target the easier to aim directly at it. The easier to get the fanbase to understand and follow. We may or may not have achieved much but I am glad I went and gave my support against the Lowe bunch. SaintIT Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 Asked a video crew what they thought to the demo at SMS, they said it was "peaceful and well organised", and if there was no trouble in the ground during the game it would make an effective point. Well done.

saint_bert Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 It was a great experience being among fans of all ages from all walks of life. Was completley peacefull ( from what I could see) and the Police were helpfull and very accomidating. Fair play to the Swansea fans who clapped our cause as we aproached SMS. CB Fry Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 From what I have seen of this, it looks like an absolute triumph. Brilliant turn out, great media coverage - another snapshot on SSN just now. And no trouble and a focused message excellently delivered. Well done to everyone involved in organising this - great stuff, makes me proud to be a Saints fan.
1976_Child Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 A lot more people turned up than I was expecting. Peaceful and purposeful. Well done everyone. And then we all went into the ground and gave the players 100% support. So Rupert, are you listening?
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 Just back and I have to say today exceeded my expectations. The march was about 800 yards long and without a doubt there was over one thousand there. The police had to stop all traffic around St Marys while the procession made their way to the stadium and it was nice to see the pubs empty and the punters join in. The police presence was well over the top with all their filming etc because there was not a hint of nastiness or trouble and the helicopter overhead was ridiculous. This is the first time there has ever been a pre-match protest of such a scale and the fact so many made an effort made me proud. Everyone agreed it was a worthwhile exercise despite the fact the two main protaginists were absent. Good to see St Lee there as well, plus Mary Corbett who joined in all the way from the Bargate. Mark my words today a message was sent.
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 Can I also add the support in the stadium was awesome. No anti Lowe songs just 100% SUPPORT. The Swansea fans were up for it too. IMO Southampton fans behaved impeccably today - a peaceful protest, well organised and well attended and yet superb suppport throughout the match. What a shame Lowe and Wilde were probably not there to see it. Had they been they might have learnt a bit about what it actually means to be a fan of the Saints. fos1 Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 Just back and I have to say today exceeded my two main protaginists were absent. No Duncan the main protaginists in turn coat WILDE was in attendance !! Is it not about time he done another uturn before more demonstrations start against him !! As i think he got off very lightly today !!! But I think his day will come !!
Mole Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 You're right there fos1. Wilde is worse than lowe in my book as he's the one who betrayed us all and brought Lowe back.
Kingsland Nick Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 Can I also add the support in the stadium was awesome. No anti Lowe songs just 100% SUPPORT. The Swansea fans were up for it too. The Swansea fans took the "no anti-Lowe songs" rule too far, with several chants of "There's only one Rupert Lowe".
alehouseboys Posted 1 February, 2009 Share Posted 1 February, 2009 ...The police presence was well over the top with all their filming etc because there was not a hint of nastiness or trouble and the helicopter overhead was ridiculous... ...FF, you didn't notice then? SimonRichards Posted 1 February, 2009 Share Posted 1 February, 2009 The police presence was well over the top with all their filming etc because there was not a hint of nastiness or trouble and the helicopter overhead was ridiculous. I spoke t a steward at half time and he said that Hampshire police & SFC had been tipped off by police football intelligence that Cardiff and P*mpey fans had planned to visit southampton to cause trouble.
