spyinthesky Posted 17 March, 2020 Share Posted 17 March, 2020 It seems that our record level of employment figure is going to take a hammering. Everywhere you look there seems to be repercussions from the effect of the coronavirus on business. If the lockdown continues past the summer I can see significant job losses. Anyone on here affected at the moment? If so may I take the opportunity to offer my sympathy, it must be really worrying. Apart from public services and those in the food production and transportation business, I cant see any business sector not being affected,

Lighthouse Posted 17 March, 2020 Share Posted 17 March, 2020 I know a lot of airline crew who’ve ready been laid off and I can’t really see where their next pay cheque is coming from.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 18 March, 2020 Share Posted 18 March, 2020 Really do feel for everyone who has lost their job as well as small businesses and those self-employed.
Shroppie Posted 19 March, 2020 Share Posted 19 March, 2020 My stepson, until today, worked providing IT systems in the hospitality business. 80% of the workforce laid off with one week's notice. It's going to be carnage in that sector. Sent from my ONEPLUS A6013 using Tapatalk

Saint Luke Posted 20 March, 2020 Share Posted 20 March, 2020 I work in a company of approx 50-60 people. It is privately owned. The owner is - understandably distraught. The workers are worried. At present there have been no job losses but this will come I am sure. The talk of the government providing support to companies by paying workers salaries (as long as they don't make redundancies) could be a lifeline, but if the orders dry up and there is no work what do those workers do? I don't see how job losses in the private sector can be avoided and what the landscape will look like when we come out of this. Just got to stick it out and hope for the best. Hatch Posted 23 March, 2020 Share Posted 23 March, 2020 The job loss fall out from all this will be catastrophic. and then there will be the subsequent suicide rates and mental health issues . The numbers don't even bear thinking about.
