Liverpool 4 - Saints 0 Post match Reaction

Why if it reviewed it didn't it get overturned init?
Because VAR don't want to overturn (undermine) decisions made by the on-field officials, especially penalty decisions. Especially at Anfield, to the away team.

Not if play continues for a while.

Can you imagine the reaction if, after a Liverpool goal at Anfield, it had been called back for a penalty to us?

But it should have been. As it stands, VAR is toothless and just as open to subjectivity, bias and cheating as leaving decisions to the ref.

Exactly the same thing happened when they beat man city, for their first goal a clear handball in the area was ignored and they broke down the other end and scored.

There was no review because the goal was given and there was no delay or VAR opinion given. Penalty appraisals usually take a while.

You’ve absolutely no idea whether it was reviewed or not. Personally, I didn’t think it was a pen, but didn’t have a great view.

It’s embarrassing people blaming the referee. It was 4 ffs, and without our keeper playing well would have been 5 or 6. We played some pretty stuff and had a few situations we probably should have made more of. But I didn’t see see one “how did he save that” moment or one “how did he miss that”. They were clinical, and well deserved their win. It had **** all to do with the ref.

Every post he's made since the end of the match has been fishing for reactions.

Unfortunately for him he's got one from me.

So he’s been banned for posting something you and other people don’t like even though it’s correct. Incredible.

As soon as I knew Friend was Ref I wrote in the prematch build up 'That's us f....d then.' And so we were. Everton complained about T. W.A.T*enburg and refused to accept his appointment in their matches due to unmitigated bias. We have lost (to my knowledge) every game we have played in which he was on the middle. His bias in favour of the bin dippers is legion. There's no shame in losing but when he's the oppositions twelf man then it's predictable.

Let's look forward to our next three fixtures for maximum points.

Now I've finished my rant about the ref (justified because he really changed the game), general thoughts.

First half was good, but you can't miss chances against Liverpool. Whether his luck has changed or he's gone off the boil, Ings isn't quite happening now.

JWP very creditable job at FB, but was caught for the second. Thought Bednarek and Stephens were good, Bertrand ok in defence, dithered in attack. McCarthy saved us another goal or two. Not much chance for the ones that went in.

Hojbjerg had chances and wasted them. And made mistakes. Romeu solid without being creative. Long was Long. Needed someone to feed off his work. Redmond - not his best game. Also spurned chances by needing the extra pass. Boufal and Adams added little - Boufal at fault fur one goal. Obafemi didn't do much wrong, but didn't impress.

Liverpool are a very good team. I'm cross that we didn't play them on a level playing field. 4-0 flattered them and would have been less if we hadn't kept giving it a go. Credit to the team. What matters now is to perform like that against lesser teams and put points on the board.

Good beer. Good company. Good day out.

We’ve got some really good fixtures coming up now where would could rack some points together. Today is pointless, this Liverpool team are a joke. Thought we did well first half and 4-0 was a bit harsh. I’m not down beat about it, forget about it and move on to some winnable games.

We didn't lose because of VAR and the officials, we lost because we can't hold onto the ball, don't take our chances and were knackered after 60 mins chasing their shadows. They lasted longer than us and inevitably took the spoils simply because they did the exact opposite. We are good at huffing and puffing but our game management has some way to go before we will ever challenge the top teams.

Well, we're 11th and all the teams we've played twice are in the top half of the table; Liverpool, Leicester, Chelsea, Spurs, Wolves and Palace. With our run in and the way we're playing, a decent top half place is on the cards.

Yup, statistically we have the easiest set of remaining games out of any team

Embarrassing tw @ts not having a clue. Game hinges on moments and we were denied a clear pen. Changes the whole game. They were of course worthy winners in the end but ref played his part.

Can we not put 'Post match Pride' after getting beaten 4-0. It's what f*cking Noddy Club would do.
I've got pride in my team today and have no problem with it. We took the game to Liverpool, were ultimately done by a corrupt ref and a better team. Move on.

If we'd sat back and parked the bus, you'd be moaning about that too. Be nice if you left this forum for Saints fans

Exactly, and crying about the ref.

And don’t get me started on our chumps using mobile filming at the end of game. We lost 4 ffs.

Yeah no manager or pundit talking about it on MOTD.

You carry on making up your new phrase ‘lost 4’ lol

Klopp praising us basically says it all - we lost 4-0 but were apparently plucky and tried to press/attack to the end, unlike say Sheff United who very nearly pinched a point by defending. Ultimately it's a £1.2 billion team vs a what, £300 milion team with most of them on loan. I am delighted with where we are in the league, delighted we have picked up our heads and played great football lately. I also think we are lucky everyone else is so terrible, and I think Liverpool are too. I am praying next year the league is more competitive because this year is embarassing.

No he’s been banned because right after the match he posted about 10 posts all designed to get a rise out of people. He does it every match with the insurance bets, the opposition goal incoming posts, the repetitive posting of his little digs like “just as well we are safe”. It’s not a ****ing playground, he needs to grow the **** up and stop being such an annoying tit.

Friend has been the referee for 3 matches with us previously this season. We won away at Brighton. We won away in the EFL Cup to you-know-who and we won against Norwich at home.

Last season he referred us twice. We drew at home to Manchester United and won at home against Spurs.

In the 17/18 season, 2 draws and 1 win.

Yep Ambsaint, this year City have collapsed. Leicester are as good as they could be and the rest are average to bad. Liverpool are head and shoulders above everyone this year and is clear to see they will go unbeaten in the league.

All hail a good summer of business but we all know it'll be a long drawn out deadline day affair, buying wise anyway.

I find him quite entertaining and can liven up what can be a dull discussion board. He seems to be more right than wrong, and has the added mystique of whether he is the old 'Glasgow' or not!

What game were you watching? We were no huffing and puffing. I have several Liverpool mates who - correctly IMH) - said we and Wolves have been their toughest games so far this season. The scoreline was a travesty - we outshot them and had double the number of corners. There are some TWA-S on here who can't see past the result if we lose.

Well let’s face it, Long’s foul on Furminio was a pen as was the challenge on Ings.
The difference was the first wasn't clear and obvious. The second was, to everyone except Friend and the VAR ref.

Edit. Have looked again. Both should have been penslties. Although Long's holding was no worse than what gets ignored at every corner.

The backloads decision really was bizarre. He just didn’t want to give it. Simple as that.
Think the freekick would have been so close to the goal it would have been a nightmare for him to manage. So he bottled it rather than implement a clear rule. And, of course, VAR doesn't apply here under the illogical VAR rules.

Just a last couple of observations.

Although our midfield didn't do badly, it finally lacked the composure and decision-making of Armstrong, in particular, and JWP who had to play at RB. Several times we couldn't find the last ball or tried to overplay it. We need Armstrong and Valery back (or KWP ready), hopefully for Burnley.

And, when we took such a small allocation, I was annoyed to have spectators with no interest in Saints behind me. Barely suppressed excitement at every Liverpool attack. Commenting that "their manager will be gone in the morning. Don't think he's even picked a specialist RB, and against Liverpool!" I did reply to that and I'm glad to say they went quieter, leaving at 3-0 saying "job done"

Another one of his accounts? The sad thing is that the nutter has more than one account. If one gets banned he will use another. God knows why he does it - some sort of mental illness. Feel sorry for him.

Have to question part of your remarks. I thought Hojbjerg in particular and Romeu did quite well in midfield...the problem (in my view) was that the team (collectively) tired at about the hour mark after so much running, pressing and marking; space opened up and in those circumstances Salah, Firminho and their full backs were uncontainable. Armstrong is a strong, direct player but not a particularly composed on the ball and not necessarily a good decision maker. JWP did a reasonable job at RB, though he was exposed at times by Robertson and though he's done well in midfield in recent times, a game like this puts pressure on any midfielder.

Saints did well, and 4-0 was a harsh reward for their efforts, particularly the first half. IF anything it showed the bravery of Ralph to keep the 4-2-4 structure, which created chances but inevitably left us exposed as the game wore on......Armstrong and JWP in midfield would not have changed that. In fact PEH looked one of our best on the day, along with Ings, Djenepo and Bertrand.
