Liverpool vs Saints - Match Thread

This scoreline in absolutely no way reflects the game - it has been close and Saints have matched Liverpool except with their finishing.

Excellent performance and they have not given up at any stage and continue to take the game to Liverpool.

This just shows what a joke premier league football has become, though. It's all about spending money on the hard work other teams scouting and training departments have done.

How is that apples and oranges, its not rugby versus football. Or are you telling me no team has hit a clean sheets versus Liverpool this season?

Compare a defence to an attack is comparing differt types of players

Compare their defence to ours and our attack to theirs is a reall comparison

Both of theirs are superior, so whats your point

Tbf, it’s a back 4 which is weaker than the one ripped apart by the pace of Traoré. It was never going to cope today.

You what? All he said was that their attack is too good for our defence? Pretty much the whole league has at one point this season.

True, loaning out Cedric was never going to improve or even help maintain our results for the rest of the season. Also drags JWP out of midfield where he has been really decent recently, so weakens our midfield and attack too.

More like "spend whatever it takes" Vs "live within your means".

A dose of footballing reality. They'll be a few on here who won't want to allow for that.

Saints put in a good shift, but Kevin Friend did not. Clear penalty and the go up the other end and score. Even then we had them worried until a hacked clearance by Robertson went straight to Firmino.

Good idea to rest Long and Ings for the cup game in mid week.

Never a 4-0 game

However, Liverpool did score that without having to get out of 2nd gear.

Thought we did well for most of the game but at least the toughest fixture in the league is done.

No injuries/red cards etc. Move on.

Oh, the officiated was just ridiculous at times.

Hasenhuttl didn’t seem to bothered at the end, probably happy that we kept pushing forward in a game we were always likely to lose.

Yep I don’t think he will be unhappy with the performance, just maybe we need to be more clinical in games against top teams when we get chances.

But general performance still good and we need to continue that on Wednesday.

Football can be so unfair.

1) denied an absolutely obvious passback to keeper a couple yards from the goal. Even Long could have had a shot on target from there.

2) it was absolutely a penalty for Ings. Commentators admitted as much later in the half. If that's taken, the Liverpool first goal catching us on the break never happens. So it's 0-1 Saints until maybe late in the game.

3) The only reason they ran away w goals was because we continued relentless pressing. At 1-0 we cd have focused on holding our shape. Who knows what the score wd have been. Given Salah's spectacular form, they prob still win, but more likely 2-1.

We should be really proud of the team and manager today. We went for it, and on another day would have had an amazing result.

That first half was incredible JWP playing better than I've ever seen him. Pressing that truly rattled liverpool. We looked the better team. That's what we have to hold onto.
