Fair point but I expect most of us said/felt the same about Ings. I can admit I thought the Ings deal was a poor one when it first happened. 2. You are right it would be quite unlikely but not impossible. The Chelsea midfield is stacked so crazier things have happened. If he only stays for a year but does well while we develop the likes of Jankewitz into a first team player without relying on him prematurely then it's a win-win. 3. I would suggest he's quite versatile and if Ralph feels he has attributes that could work in his system it could work. Ralph shifted Armstrong's position/role and he's come on leaps and bounds. 4. Yhep, you're right his injury record is a real minus. If he didn't have it we wouldn't even be able to consider signing him. A 24 year old England international at a top four club on £120,000 a week. No chance. I can see why others would not agree but I would be excited if this came to fruition!

saintwbu Posted 13 September, 2020 Share Posted 13 September, 2020 Get him in if we can - he’s struggled with injuries but also hard if you can’t get regular game time, to get back up to fitness before your next injury. Great player, and 100% exactly the type of player we’re crying out for. Physical, quick, but has the skill to burst past a few players when we’re struggling to break a stubborn defence down. saintwbu Posted 13 September, 2020 Share Posted 13 September, 2020 Chalobah’s appeal passed years ago - reputation was over inflated big time, had never done anything at senior level but always got lauded. Not good enough.
The Curse of St Mary's Posted 13 September, 2020 Share Posted 13 September, 2020 Injuries aside RLC would be just what we need imo. We don't have that box to box midfielder who can unlock a defence and chip in with some goals.

revolution saint Posted 13 September, 2020 Share Posted 13 September, 2020 Great - we can sew up the double barrelled surname championship by the end of the month if we can get RLC. qwertyell Posted 13 September, 2020 Share Posted 13 September, 2020 RLC is a quality footballer, but he wouldn't suit us at all. He's a stroller out of possession. No great work rate or engine. verlaine1979 Posted 14 September, 2020 Share Posted 14 September, 2020 Swiss Ramble gives an interesting overview of the amount owners have injected into clubs over the past five years. The likes of Wolves and Brighton, Villa and Everton have had hundreds of millions in interest free loans and converted equity, while we've had nothing (well, 1m apparently, but no idea where that came from). Obviously some of that has been spent playing catch-up on newly promoted squads, but hard to argue now that the likes of Wolves aren't now operating a level or two above us in the transfer market now, with multiple signings well above our record. At least we haven't had money flowing out of the club to the owner yet, unlike United, Newcastle and Spurs.

Of the midfield options we have considerably weakened you talk about one hasn’t played a first game match for 3 years another has only made three league appearances since jan 1 2019. We need to replace Hojbjerg that is obvious but just because we’ve sold players that player it doesn’t mean that selling them has weakened the squad

hypochondriac Posted 15 September, 2020 Share Posted 15 September, 2020 No one has ever claimed we don't spend money. It's clear we don't spend much above what we get in.

And his club want Boufal too. SKD Posted 15 September, 2020 Share Posted 15 September, 2020 I still think we are way to reliant on Ings getting goals. Long and obafemi aren’t good enough and the jury is out on Adams. Seen today that Origi is being chased by a number of the teams we’ll be competing with come the end of the season (villa, Newcastle, Fulham, Brighton). doubt he’d be cheap (within our budget) but would love us to make a move for him. I think him and ings would give us a real threat up top.

RLC was awful last night, not keen on him based on that showing but we know he has potential. I'm not sure he would do too well in a high-energy defensive/box-to-box role we would want him for though. Still 3 weeks left of the window, plenty of time for at least a couple of "will he, won't he" transfer sagas!
benjii Posted 15 September, 2020 Share Posted 15 September, 2020 The new contract for Long has ruined any prospect of another striker, I would’ve thought.

woodsaint1 Posted 15 September, 2020 Share Posted 15 September, 2020 Wondering if our reported interest in Koopmeiners is dependent on AZs Champs League progress. Lost 2-0 away to Dynamo Kiev. No champions league money could force their hand

verlaine1979 Posted 15 September, 2020 Share Posted 15 September, 2020 (edited) Argh, can we just find someone under the age of 24 who is tall enough to head the ball, athletic enough to run with it into space when it opens up and adventurous enough to play a forward pass when it's on? Stick a pin in any French Ligue 1 club and you'll probably have at least one central midfielder fitting the bill.
