Batman Posted 4 January, 2020 Posted 4 January, 2020 It does apply to offsides, according to the people that make the rules... https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/dec/30/var-should-only-be-used-for-clear-and-obvious-offside-errors-say-law-makers They have to re-issue guidance and then can’t come into force next season...
djg Posted 4 January, 2020 Posted 4 January, 2020 Anyone got another link to a working stream? This one won’t work for me
stevy777_x Posted 4 January, 2020 Posted 4 January, 2020 I think the issue is that for offside they draw lines and you can be a mm off (objective). For a penalty they ask “was it a clear and obvious mistake?” (subjective). They need to sort this out. Lost count of the number of times that the comma say “no penalty but if the ref had given it then it wouldn’t have been overturned”. So it was a penalty then? And some **** in black ****ed up but you don’t want to show him up? Thing is without VAR, Huddersfield would have been aggrieved if it had stood. On the other hand saints fans would have said looks very slightly offside but who cares we scored. I don t mind VAR as it corrects the majority of wrong decisions or helps to take the right one. In this case it was offside, so its fair. Most people complaining are those who were used to get wrong decisions go for them especially big club supporters. Yes some cases are awfully close but that s what it is there for and for me that s fair. Now if they want to change the rule ans say clear and obvious then so be it. But without VAR we would still be complaining about how **** referees in england are and how many decisions we have had against us.
Archangel Posted 4 January, 2020 Posted 4 January, 2020 Anything in this? Red Bull representatives and technical people have been at St Mary's and Staplewood for 2 days.

trousers Posted 4 January, 2020 Posted 4 January, 2020 Now if they want to change the rule ans say clear and obvious then so be it. The VAR rules have always included the 'clear and obvious' directive. The issue is that the rules have never been applied as intended. Statement from the people that invented the rules here: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/dec/30/var-should-only-be-used-for-clear-and-obvious-offside-errors-say-law-makers
Ohio Saint Posted 4 January, 2020 Posted 4 January, 2020 "clear and obvious" even in VAR is, of course an easy shoe in for decisions that favour the big six again

Ohio Saint Posted 4 January, 2020 Posted 4 January, 2020 were there really zero passes completed in the first half?

5string Posted 4 January, 2020 Posted 4 January, 2020 We haven't really done anything to deserve winning. Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk Not been great really, have we? Though a couple of decent chances & penalty shouts should have given us something. Oh, there's something! Nice finish, Smallbone!

norwaysaint Posted 4 January, 2020 Posted 4 January, 2020 Horrible back pass from Yoshida. Could have led to a chance.
obelisk Posted 4 January, 2020 Posted 4 January, 2020 I can still see Saints defence screwing up at some stage.

As it stands, there is no 'clear and obvious' element for offside. As one quote went, 'you can't be a little bit pregnant...'

trousers Posted 4 January, 2020 Posted 4 January, 2020 No, what he's saying is that they will issue new guidelines, possibly at the end of February 2020. No, they are clearly stating they are re-iterating existing guidelines, not issuing new ones... Lukas Brud said the Ifab will reissue guidance on best practice regarding VAR to competitions which use it, probably after its annual general meeting at the end of February next year, which will include information on offsides. In general terms, that advice will be that technology cannot definitively make a ruling on offside as it can over whether a shot has crossed the goal line, and that therefore VAR should only be used to correct “clear and obvious” mistakes. “Clear and obvious still remains - it’s an important principle. There should not be a lot of time spent to find something marginal,” Brud told PA Sport. “If something is not clear on the first sight, then it’s not obvious and it shouldn’t be considered. Looking at one camera angle is one thing but looking at 15, trying to find something that was potentially not even there, this was not the idea of the VAR principle. It should be clear and obvious.” The Ifab stressed the guidance on offside will not be new advice, and will be a routine update to stakeholders https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/dec/30/var-should-only-be-used-for-clear-and-obvious-offside-errors-say-law-makers

OttawaSaint Posted 4 January, 2020 Posted 4 January, 2020 Bit of a damp squib this one. FA Cup 3rd used to be one of the best weekends on the calendar. Now it’s just reserve teams against lower league teams.
