USA SaintsFan Posted 25 December, 2019 Posted 25 December, 2019 Looking at the fixture list, it certainly seems like we are. Has this ever happened?
Avenue_Saint Posted 25 December, 2019 Posted 25 December, 2019 2 days apart from Palace game Should deffo be swapped around
VectisSaint Posted 25 December, 2019 Posted 25 December, 2019 Looking at the fixture list, it certainly seems like we are. Has this ever happened? Chelsea specifically, probably, teams in general absolutely. You know there were times when teams used to be played as double headers, home one weekend, away the next.
Lets B Avenue Posted 25 December, 2019 Posted 25 December, 2019 When we got promoted in 1966, you played the same team in the first two midweek games. In our case it was Sunderland away then at home 7 days later.
SW5 SAINT Posted 25 December, 2019 Posted 25 December, 2019 I think it quite often happens that we play the same team twice in the first half of a season. Particularly when festive season fixtures have to be arranged......
Whitey Grandad Posted 25 December, 2019 Posted 25 December, 2019 I think it quite often happens that we play the same team twice in the first half of a season. Particularly when festive season fixtures have to be arranged...... They try to arrange ‘local’ derbies over this period. That doesn’t explain why Saints were drawn away at Newcastle on New Years Day though.
adrian lord Posted 25 December, 2019 Posted 25 December, 2019 Yes we often get Chelsea or Tottenham at Christmas due to relative proximity. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
SaintBobby Posted 25 December, 2019 Posted 25 December, 2019 How are the festive fixtures actually drawn/decided? Are we in some bracket with all the London clubs for the 2 or 3 games over the Xmas period? What are the other brackets?
USA SaintsFan Posted 25 December, 2019 Author Posted 25 December, 2019 Chelsea specifically, probably, teams in general absolutely. Noodles34 Posted 27 December, 2019 Posted 27 December, 2019 I understand that we should have played CP at him neon Boxing Day and then Chelsea away this Saturday. However thenLondon fixtures on Saturday were too congested and therefore that’s is why they were swapped.
Noodles34 Posted 27 December, 2019 Posted 27 December, 2019 Do you only get an edit option as a full meme bet now? CP at home

mrfahaji Posted 27 December, 2019 Posted 27 December, 2019 Interesting. Guess I haven't been around long enough to witness that. Although generally you tend to play different teams before having repeated match ups, I don't believe there's any strict rule about it. You would also think that the fixtures would be evenly spaced out, so that the team you play first is also the first team that you play twice, but the fixtures have never worked that way (even though you do generally find that you wouldn't play the same team in August and in April). There is often some overlap around this time of year where you might play teams a second time before you have played another team at all.
Behind Enemy Lines Posted 27 December, 2019 Posted 27 December, 2019 The question should be; can we play them every week?
mrfahaji Posted 28 December, 2019 Posted 28 December, 2019 Probably a stranger thing with this season's fixtures is that our return fixture against Crystal Palace is 21 January. Surely it must be quite unusual to play the same team twice within a month?
