striker Posted 1 December, 2019 Share Posted 1 December, 2019 To hold the league is (again) the target. I know Ralph quite well (my son played for him) and admire him enormously. In all plays our passing accuracy deteriorated and other teams profited as a result. He should have demanded new players with international quality. That was his mistake. For example Danso (he and my son play together in Austrians U21) is a talent, but for such a difficult situation he is overwhelmed. Ralph cannot play his system and the squad is not compiled for his philosphy. Think Saints and Ralph will separate. I hope somebody can do better. This is my feeling too. Ralph wants to play a certain way, and we just don't have the right players to do it. The decision is either redo the entire squad around how Ralph wants to play, or get a manager who will conform a style to our players. Like i mentioned in another thread, after watching this what Puel did is growing on me. He put in a boring style, but it was a style that he could win at with the current crop of players

Webby Posted 1 December, 2019 Share Posted 1 December, 2019 (edited) All game JWP was tackle, retrieve, give move to be available from 1st minute to 96th minute. When he passes back or sideways to retain procession as there is absolute no bugger available to pass to. He is a good player not world class but pretty much the best we have in that position at the moment. I share your frustration but Romeu is far worse for slowing the game down and PEH cannot hold the ball long enough to make an impact. Stephens is a difficult one. Yes he makes mistakes but I can live with that to have a courageous player prepared to put himself on the line one of the few leaders we have. All of the issues are rooted in having 4 attackers on the field. With no midfield the errors you allude to were constantly emphasised. Well that's what I think Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk I feel our problems lie mainly in the midfield, yes we have genuine defensive issues too but, for me, the central midfield is too open. Quite often, the two CMs are too far apart. Sometimes one is out wide right and the other is wide left. There's a massive hole in the middle. One time yesterday, probably more than once, the two full backs were on the touchline around the halfway line, the wide midfielders were high up the pitch, two strikers around the edge of the box. Hojbjerg comes across to the left back position, 15 yards behind Bertrand to take a pass from a cb. JWP was across the other side of the pitch! Why does Hojbjerg need to be there? Why can't Bertrand receive that pass? Massive hole in the middle. All options were wide, long or back. The CMs are asked to press in wide areas and I think it's too much; it takes them right out of position imo. Wide midfielders could be doing that. CBs are exposed, no protection and we lose goals. Badger Posted 1 December, 2019 Share Posted 1 December, 2019 The JWP abuse sickens me. it also reminds me of the abuse Sadio Mane got on here. I don't think we are very expert on this site, and we are meant to be supporters, I thought. Anyone slagging JWPs performance yesterday know little about football and a lot about bandwagon-jumping. I've avoided the bandwagon critiscising JWP but for much of the first 65 minutes yesterday I was seeing that his critics had a valid case as his passing and contribution seemed woeful. Credit where it's due for the free kick which was something MLT would have been proud of and out of context with the rest of the game, but I didn't see much in his game overall. That said PEH, didn't seem to offer anything creative for most of he game. That said, I certainly didn't agree with the singing Romeu's name in the second half as we know his contribution would have been more muscle but little creativity. Badger Posted 1 December, 2019 Share Posted 1 December, 2019 Despite the lower attendance, and I suspect there were less people in the ground than given by the official figures, I thought the support in the second half was much better than usual when the teal started to rally. Read someone saying that support improves as the team gets sh!tter, and there seems some truth in that as the stands contained people who wanted to be there and support Saints rather than 'tourists' and Chinese students taking selfies. For the last 15 minutes it reminded me of the support at The Dell in our annual relegation scrap in the 90's.

Wade Garrett Posted 1 December, 2019 Share Posted 1 December, 2019 藍 The typical response of someone who really does not know anything about football. "If you disagree with me you must be stupid". Pathetic. Scored the winner, played the pass if the match in the move where Long had an effort cleared off the line and put himself about more than most in the midfield battle. Im not saying he is a quality player, I’m just saying he doesn’t deserve a slagging for yesterday’s performance. Pathetic? F*ck right off.

JWP was awful yesterday, but he did score the winner (for once he actually did what everyone says he is a master at, it was a very good free kick). he also was involved in a couple of other good moves up front late in the game. But for the first 55-60 minutes he was absolutely ****ing abysmal. Anyone can see it. That's the trouble the good things he did late on paper over an appalling performance. People are "slagging him off" justifiably. Clearly yesterday he was not able to handle the pressure that the team had put on itself by the abysmal home performances this season. He is not the man you want when we are up for a battle, he can't handle it. Time and again this season he has shown this. So, you **** right off. Give JWP Tadic, Pelle and Mane playing around him, and suddenly he'd be the metronomic glue sticking our team together.

Saint86 Posted 2 December, 2019 Share Posted 2 December, 2019 Never a handball by Djenepo by the way, they always go on about rebounds and it being too quick for players to react etc, it bounced off his shin onto his hand 0.2 seconds later you can't give that. Certainly wouldn't give a penalty for it! Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk The rules are that if a hand is involved in the build up to a goal, its disallowed. derry Posted 2 December, 2019 Share Posted 2 December, 2019 Of course Ward Prowse has had many poor games and has deserved criticism not least from me but yesterday he played very well and won us the match. He took up good positions in midfield always offering the out-ball to colleagues under pressure and he was using the ball well in possession with many penetrating passes into dangerous central areas of their third. Give credit where it is due he was our MotM yesterday. Let's hope it was not a flash in the pan. That's a very fair comment. He has been appalling in the majority of games this season and not alone. However I have noticed a bit more dynamism in the last two games. One point I will make to those praising his goal scoring which is misleading. He has effectively scored a solitary goal from play in about sixteen games. The others, a missed penalty and a lucky rebound off the keeper that fell kindly for him, a good penalty and a solitary goal from virtually every free kick within range this season. Yes a good vital goal on Saturday but he isn't the master dead ball specialist that some are making him out to be and certainly not a goal threat during normal play. It's just that Hasenhuttl has his favourites and then some. If only he would play his best players very time and set favouritism / prejudice aside we might indeed have a good team. In my view it is difficult to understand how Cedric, Bertrand and Boufal only seem to be picked begrudgingly and are dropped like hot potato as soon as the opportunity occurs. As for Top Ten that is likely to be wishful thinking although a win on Wednesday and then again at the weekend would certainly restore a bit of pride and confidence and maybe banish the mass panic attacks that set in all too easily these days. 18 points come Sunday night would have us in a respectable position for once
