But now confident that we’ll quickly climb the table. Out of interest, what was that different? Yes we played a bit better than we have been, but we still concede really soft goals and we’re still not that clinical. You can be unreal from box to box, but if you’re arguably the weakest in the in both boxes (which won’t change without significant investment) then you’re going down. Jonnyboy Posted 23 November, 2019 Share Posted 23 November, 2019 Arsenal were pretty open but of course the teams coming to St Mary's won't let us have so much freedom and chances. Still, all that said and as a non-season ticket holder, quite fancy getting a ticket for Watford after today's performance.

Lighthouse Posted 23 November, 2019 Share Posted 23 November, 2019 I honestly, genuinely wonder if a game behind closed doors would do this lot some good. They’re just so frail mentally, you can almost read it in their faces as they walk out at St Mary’s; they’re just going to bottle it in front of their own fans. Again. Let’s all just stay at home and give the lads a chance.
kyle04 Posted 23 November, 2019 Share Posted 23 November, 2019 Should be interesting, the 2 poorest teams in the PL battling to avoid the wooden spoon. We may score, they certainly will going on current (3 years) home form. 1-2 defeat. RH sacked, Mourinho appointed after shock sacking from Spurs. Forced to buy new players from his own bulging pockets after Goa belatedly tells him the cupboard is bare. The rest is history... in 3 years Kane appears on the Saintsweb forum header just after he lifts the PL trophy. I have a dream....

Shroppie Posted 24 November, 2019 Share Posted 24 November, 2019 This will be a totally different game to yesterday. Arsenal attacked us, rather too patiently and were slow to recover when we broke. The early goal also made them commit more forward. Watford will sit back, frustrate and hit us with physicality and long balls over the top. We seem set on Stephens and Bednarek now, but I think they'll struggle. At least we now have the novelty of two specialist full backs. Not sure that Vestergaard, Yoshida or Danso (where is he?) can improve the situation, so I'd start with much the same team, but Djenepo for Obafemi. Reinhard Posted 24 November, 2019 Share Posted 24 November, 2019 What makes/made me optimistic, is the following: 1. RH said before Arsenal, that the team after the two weeks break is now remembering a little more the virtues/basics they had earlier regarding pressing, aggressiveness and morale. These were friendly words for the public. i assume he had another statement to the team, like this: "Men, I want you to play my style. If anyone does not want to, he should tell me. if another bad performance happens, I will put some heads on a spike. If the defense plays rubbish I will replace the CBs during the game and send the replaced CBs straight to the training ground of the U23 till winter. Anybody playing horizontale for boring minutes like ball to CB-CB-keeper-LB-CB-CB-RB-keeper will be offered in winter transfer time to Tibetan or Indian clubs for the remainder of their career etc. etc." 2. The match against Arsenal showed in high degree what I expect from a squad coached by Hasenhüttl. Entertaining. Chances. Morale. Yes, mistakes too, but many positive actions were visible. I often critizised Bertrand but I think this was his best game since 12 months. The yellow card was overdue, i admit. The impulse to play forward was almost always present. 3. RH said after Arsenal that the team recognizes now that this was the style which can make trouble to any team of the PL. So I do hope they adhere to it each game, also next weekend. It is up to the coach to make this happen. Watford should be beaten, if not - game over.

WALK DMC Posted 25 November, 2019 Share Posted 25 November, 2019 I wish there was some correlation between our away and home form. We're not really a relegation side away from home. But we're the most odds on relegation side ever at home. Not sure line up, tactics etc make any difference at home. We just have to find the effort levels of away games and scrape a win somehow. 4 points from these 2 home games and I think we'll turn it round and stay up. Less than that and I really doubt it. I agree. I'd be happy to "scrape" 4 points over the next 2 games through any means possible. I think we have to build our confidence and form again at home. The first point is to get to h-t at the very worst drawing; every match this season we have been chasing the game in the 2nd half. Half-time scores in Premiership this season are (from memory) 0-1 (Liv), 0-1 (Man U), 0-2 (Bournemouth), 1-3 (Chelsea), 0-5 (Leicester), 0-1 (Everton). In some cases the game is over before we've even started. With the exception of Liverpool we've conceeded a goal (or more) in the very early part of each game. So getting to 15 minutes without conceeding, getting to h-t with a slight lead or drawing, and finally start a 2nd half without having to score at least 2 goals to win. Achieving 4 (or 6) points will help give us a foundation to push on over the rest of the season. It won't be easy, but I think that we start small (cut out early goals against) and we can kick on. In comparison to last year we have Djenpo, Boufal & Cedric available plus an in-form Ings, so we can match or exceed last year's performances under Ralph. We just need to get started .......... Reinhard Posted 25 November, 2019 Share Posted 25 November, 2019 Repeating the performance against Arsenal is one thing, handling the opponent's long passes another. Burnley did it well against us, correct reaction to our pressing, and made only long passes in order to avoid pressing situations. I hope RH has a solution to this. Then we will win. 100%Red&White Posted 25 November, 2019 Share Posted 25 November, 2019 Something like 21 shots at the Emirates on Saturday (only 4 less than Leicester down here who managed to stick 9 of them away without reply!), we'll be lucky to see half as many this time. Different game, we'll press, we'll struggle to get through, they'll knock it long and pick us off. Worse case scenario. Or it finally clicks and we have a field day.....nurse.... Charlie Wayman Posted 25 November, 2019 Share Posted 25 November, 2019 How many times has this team promised better times ahead only to revert to type in the very next game. It is so predictable that one wonders why we all cling on to this fantasy that things will tu n out well in the end. We keep doing the same old things in the same old way so why would any of us expect a different outcome. It's odds on we'll disappoint once again especially with the cameras on our backs. I think there will be goals but other than that cannot see beyond a Watford win. Deany is another of the old timer journeymen who seem always to put one over on us like Crouch used to and Barnes still does.
