Batman Posted 9 November, 2019 Share Posted 9 November, 2019 (edited) In 2005 we were terrible, capitulated at Fratton and deserved to go down. We did however suffer from lots of injuries and were ultimately 1 goal from survival! I think the current lot are worse. I would laugh at a combined team [emoji44] Edited 9 November, 2019 by Batman
S-Clarke Posted 9 November, 2019 Share Posted 9 November, 2019 Current lot is our worst ever. They've been doing this for 3 and a bit years now, without question I hate the majority of them more than I did the 2005 lot.
LGTL Posted 9 November, 2019 Share Posted 9 November, 2019 I haven’t hated a team as much as I do now since 05, that’s for sure.

Lighthouse Posted 9 November, 2019 Share Posted 9 November, 2019 (edited) Combined team, assuming we’re trying to make it good. Niemi Telfer - Yoshida - Vest - Le Saux Oakley - Romeu - Prutton - - - - - Svensson - - - Crouch - - Ings Bench: McC, Higgy, Cédric, McQ, Redmond, Camara, Phillips Good grief was I struggling at CB. bpsaint Posted 9 November, 2019 Share Posted 9 November, 2019 That 05 team would beat this lot about 3-0 I reckon. They were crap at the back too but could create and score goals.

Chez Posted 9 November, 2019 Share Posted 9 November, 2019 svensson didn't play a match, Dodd only 4, Oakley only 7. It's not really fair to include them. Claus was past his best (as was Dodd).

That’s what I was going with, their form/fitness in these particular years. For e.g. I’d have Mk.1 Bertrand in the side but not Bertrand 6S, which has a cracked screen and doesn’t support iOS3.5.2.4.1. For 2005 FF read 2019 Lemina Djenepo maybe but he’s not proven himself yet. Phillips/Ings/Camara is umpires call (I eventually went with Ings for his goals) and probably the only genuinely pleasant dilemma in that whole team. Redknapp and Oakley can take it in turns to be fit for 60 minutes. 2005 Claus was one of the worst displays I’ve seen over a season from any saints player, let alone captain. Full of mistakes, bottled it when the going got tough.
Lord Duckhunter Posted 9 November, 2019 Share Posted 9 November, 2019 I’ll never forgive the 05 side for bottling it at Fratton. Never. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Colinjb Posted 9 November, 2019 Share Posted 9 November, 2019 (edited) When thinking of the class of 2005 I feel nostalgic. Our current bunch make it very easy to do. That season we beat Liverpool and Spurs at home, the Skates twice at home. Had a reasonable cup run, played some decent attacking football at times and had Peter Crouch and Camara. This season we have.................... Erm............. Djenepo, Boufal and a win against a laughable bunch in League 1 who are meant to be our main rival. The crushing lows from 04/05 against Everton and Boro at home, Spurs and the Skates away have been blown out of the water by that game v Leicester. 2019/20 makes 04/05 look good. That 2005 team were missing Pahars, Oakley, and the ginger Svendsson through injury - arguably our best attacker, midfielder and defender. This current lot aren't weakened by injury, if they are weakened by anything it's shockingly negligible recruitment, but ultimately they are just weak. norwaysaint Posted 10 November, 2019 Share Posted 10 November, 2019 Do we have a single player now that you would expect to play well? I haven't seen much football at all this season, but from what I see here: Romeu is our only decent midfielder one week, hopeless the next. Adam deserves a chance/should never be selected again Yoshida is the only one with passion/shouldn't be near the first team Boufal is our only good player/isn't fit to wear the shirt Danso needs to play/is laughably inept at this level Valery is an exciting young player who creates stuff/is a hopeless liability Bertrand is our only class player/never puts in a shift anymore Pretty much all of those players have been announced as needing to be played and should never be playing. I don't think I've seen much criticism of Ings this season, that's something. In 2005 we were actually very unlucky to draw a few key matches and that team could have stayed up with a bit more discipline. Goals at the death against Middlesboro, Everton and Arsenal seem to stand out.
Sidney Fudpucker the 3rd Posted 10 November, 2019 Share Posted 10 November, 2019 The current situation feels exactly the same as 2005. Problem is that there won't be a Billionaire to save us in a couple of years time. How the club can end up back in this mess in such a short space of time is a complete mystery. Clearly nobody learned anything.
