Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'

McDonnell devastated on the Beeb.

Saying this was all about brexit and the media campaign against Corbyn.

But admits this appears to be an endorsement of brexit

Decisions to be made about his and jezza’s future in the morning.

That’s not what’s being said Jamie.

McDonnell trying to say the result is all about Brexit but Neil rightly saying that Corbyn and his policies are massive factors.

It’s was implied. Admitting the scale of the defeat on brexit. Given them he said Labours policies were more popular but they will lose over brexit. Also suggesting remainders want it ‘done’...

You said that he admits it is an endorsement of Brexit. “Admits” suggests that he’s had to concede something he didn’t want to. No he’s loudly and proudly claiming it’s about Brexit. Classic denial and deflection on McDonnell’s part.

Anybody still want to claim remain would win a second referendum?

Never thought it would in the first place. Moot point now anyway.

At least the Torres get to own their Brexit. Christ knows what it will end up looking like

At least the pound has gone up though, very good news from a personal point of view (albeit a rebound towards where we were pre-referendum).

Meh. Not the result I wanted, obviously. But if this exit poll is on the money, as they usually are, then I'll just have to suck it up and make the best of things.

A total disaster for Labour - potentially their worst result since Michael Foot in 1983. Pretty devastating for Corbyn against the worst, most inept and spineless leader the Tories have ever elected.

Tend to agree with what Andrew Marr just said there. If Johnson does get a landslide then it could lead to a more softer kind of Brexit (trade agreement) than if it was a narrow victory. In other words, he won't be at the mercy of the ERG

This is the only sma consolation for me. But then, BoJo doesn't really know what he wants regarding Europe does he, given that he was supporting remaining in the EU right up until the point when he realised backing leave was most likely to get him into Number 10.

As I said before, hopefully a healthy majority means Johnson can f**k over the ERG and the type of chumps who have avatars of Johnson on a zipwire. He has form (ask the DUP for starters) and its common knowledge that Cummings and co hold them in contempt.

Anyway if the exit polls are on the money, there’s no more excuses or hiding places for the Brexiters now. It’s well and truly their mess. Get Brexit done is going to sound like a sick joke.

Just messaged my Jewish friends. They are incredibly relieved and so are all their friends. Proud of the British public tonight, I knew they wouldn't let the Jewish people down.

Those token, make believe Jewish mates of yours - I’m surprised you’re not off the phone yet messaging them all

Funny cos my Jewish friends are socialists and voted Labour.

First Past the Post sucks.

Is this election a massive own goal by the SNP - calling for and supporting an early GE, which was always going to be overwhelmingly dominated by Brexit, and handing Boris a large majority, on the back of which calls for IndyRef2 will be completely ignored.
Cue the SNP triggering a long drawn out court case...
