Guided Missile Posted 13 November, 2019 Share Posted 13 November, 2019 See GM who still doesn’t understand the difference between illegal immigration and freedom of movement, except that it gets him very angry as further evidence. You are sounding more and more like your fellow alumni from Taunton's, Benny Hill. Just to be clear, I referred to "freedom of movement and uncontrolled immigration". Rye you not risten? I would have said uncontrolled immigration gives rise to illegal immigration, wouldn't you? Michael Gove had the same concerns as me, as reported this week: One of the principal lessons of the Brexit referendum was the desire of the British people to end freedom of movement and bring immigration under democratic control. Labour is now explicitly in favour of unlimited and uncontrolled immigration. It would mean massive pressure on public services — creating a shortage of school places, putting a huge strain on the NHS and increasing demand for housing. It would also mean Britons are less safe, as a Corbyn-Sturgeon alliance wouldn’t put in place the controls necessary to stop criminals crossing our borders. Back on ignore, Gavin. You're an irrelevant unprincipled champagne socialist, who on the 13th December, will be whining like a b!tch....

You're an irrelevant unprincipled champagne socialist, who on the 13th December, will be whining like a b!tch.... Proving my point again: freedom of movement is not the same as uncontrolled immigration. Freedom of movement is subject to a host of conditions and controls. Here’s another quote from a government whip, summarising the relevant parts of the Free Movement Directive. Where admission is permitted, an EU citizen may remain in the UK for up to three months from the date of entry, provided they do not become a burden on the social assistance system of the UK. If an EU citizen does not meet one of the requirements for residence set out in the Directive [employed, self-employed, self-sufficient, student] then they will not have a right to reside in the UK and may be removed.” 3+ years and pompey poly’s second most famous graduate still struggles with the basics. Tamesaint Posted 14 November, 2019 Share Posted 14 November, 2019 Another King Edwards .... in a much larger city. You are right about the pettiness of a football forum. I am sure that if there was ever a Saintsweb get together 80% /90% of us would get on fine with each other. The anonymity of the forum leads to the pettiness .... but it is fun isn't it. hypochondriac Posted 14 November, 2019 Share Posted 14 November, 2019 You think that the gender pay gap is ok? Surely it is basic discrimination? The wage gap is simply the average earnings of men and women working full time. It does not count for different job positions, hours worked or different jobs. It has nothing to do with the same job. It has nothing to do with discrimination. That does not mean that discrimination does not exist, but simply publishing the hap between the earnings of men and the earnings of women is wildly simplistic. Manuel Posted 14 November, 2019 Share Posted 14 November, 2019 Janet Street Porter, of all people, did make me question myself recently though. Her point was that in Supermarkets, store room staff get paid more than till workers. Store room staff tend to be male and till workers female. Both are unskilled jobs. Is that fair? I'm not sure but at the end of the day I figured it's the market that decides the rate, not prejudice. And of course, there's nothing to stop a woman working in the store room or a man on the till, should it suit him. Personally I'd take the store room job, whether it was better paid or not. Lord Duckhunter Posted 14 November, 2019 Share Posted 14 November, 2019 Only it isn’t. How would you feel if you were a “bird” and you were paid less than a bloke for doing the same job? Depends on why. If it was performance related and there was a robust, fair and consistent framework I’d have no issue at all. If it was because I was a 9 Pinter, I’d take legal advice. Some blokes get paid more than other blokes doing the same job, because they’re better at their jobs or better at negotiating their salaries. Is that discrimination? I know you lefties want everybody paid the same, but in the real world they’re not. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

No, it isn't "basic" discrimination, it's merit-based discrimination. It's because women take more career breaks, more time off and generally make different choices to men which often put them at a career disadvantage. If you can find me a company which systematically pays a man more than a woman for the same entry-level job I would be astonished.
