SKD Posted 26 October, 2019 Posted 26 October, 2019 An absolute disgrace. Far too big for his boots, shocking attitude from what I’ve seen away from football. Had a handful of above average games been **** in just as many. Wouldn’t be disappointed if he never played for us again
Batman Posted 26 October, 2019 Posted 26 October, 2019 He was never that good. A few decent games last season, benefitted from not being Cedric and lauded as a great player Cedric was and is miles better

Pamplemousse Posted 26 October, 2019 Posted 26 October, 2019 Cedric is better obviously but he's only young. There are individuals who I'm far angrier with.
Whitey Grandad Posted 26 October, 2019 Posted 26 October, 2019 Played yesterday like a schoolboy in his first ever game of football. Just let the ball float past him for Perez’s goal at the far post. Might just as well not have been on the pitch.
red&white56 Posted 26 October, 2019 Posted 26 October, 2019 He was targeted by Leicester when he was on the right and again when on the left. they had figured out he was easy to pass by and it gave them easy attacks down our flanks. He looked totally out of his depth.
Micky Posted 26 October, 2019 Posted 26 October, 2019 The lad had a mare, no mistake, but he's much better than he showed last night. Personally I think he needs to be taken out of the firing line, need to get Cedric back. Yeah he was crap last night, but to heap it all on the kid is unfair. Sent from my SM-T590 using Tapatalk
aintforever Posted 26 October, 2019 Posted 26 October, 2019 At least three goals were his fault, shouldn’t be anywhere near a Prem first team.
Fookwit Posted 26 October, 2019 Posted 26 October, 2019 Why pick on a young player struggling in a poor side. I was more annoyed by the lack of effort from the senior players
sandwichsaint Posted 26 October, 2019 Posted 26 October, 2019 Why pick on a young player struggling in a poor side. I was more annoyed by the lack of effort from the senior players Havent seen it anywhere else. Thought Gary Neville showed real class not naming the youngsters. Made a generic comment about young players being found out and potentially having their whole careers altered on one game. Clearly referring to Valery and Gunn and possibly Bednarek too.
Appy Posted 26 October, 2019 Posted 26 October, 2019 Struggling to remember a player looking more out of his depth.

Yes, I was impressed by his analysis and professionalism. Get him in as manager?
HarvSFC Posted 26 October, 2019 Posted 26 October, 2019 Valery's performance last night was worse than any given by Jermaine Wright in a Southampton shirt. Too much time off the pitch with Lemina? Or, after his goal vs Chelsea, could Valery be better suited to a more advanced position?
SNSUN Posted 26 October, 2019 Posted 26 October, 2019 If we start next season in the Championship, I’d be more than happy to see Valery start as our first choice right back. But he was thrown into Premier League football last season at a tender age and did OK, at a time we’d loaned Cedric out and had nobody else to call on. But he’s not Premier League ready, yet.
Lighthouse Posted 26 October, 2019 Posted 26 October, 2019 Just like JWP and Stephens, he has come through the youth system and generally been substandard. However a two month 'purple patch' of being adequate has lead the powers that be to believe he is good enough. Will he be one day? Perhaps but right now he is an absolute liability.
S-Clarke Posted 26 October, 2019 Posted 26 October, 2019 I think he's pretty average, had a couple of good games and has some decentish ability, but he looses his head too quickly and that's seemingly in his makeup. Loan him out to L1 or something, see how he gets on. Shoudln't be in the PL right now.
Baird of the land Posted 26 October, 2019 Posted 26 October, 2019 Thought he was very good in the wolves game but very poor last night. Last night though i’m Not sure any of our players looked like footballers let alone league one ones. In the 532 i’d Persevere with Valery though in a back i’d Probably opt for Cedric. Certainly shouldn’t be loaned out or given up on.
Gordon Mockles Posted 26 October, 2019 Posted 26 October, 2019 The worst man marker I have ever seen. Even on the rebound shot, he was nowhere near & it was the Leicester player first. As it was throughout the game.

tobes8 Posted 26 October, 2019 Posted 26 October, 2019 I think he has some talent but needs some decent coaching which doesn’t appear to be happening. His positioning and spacial awareness is all over the place. We shouldn’t have to rely on him right now but our transfer policy over the summer didn’t help.
Mr Saints Posted 26 October, 2019 Posted 26 October, 2019 He is pony. So half hearted in everything he does, would get nowhere near any other Prem squad.
Hayling Saint Posted 26 October, 2019 Posted 26 October, 2019 Not his fault, he doesn't pick himself to play.
DuncanRG Posted 26 October, 2019 Posted 26 October, 2019 He is pony. So half hearted in everything he does, would get nowhere near any other Prem squad. Yeah he would. Not the good ones, but he would.
Saint Billy Posted 26 October, 2019 Posted 26 October, 2019 Thought he had something last season but yesterday was like his head had gone, a truly awful display.
Dusic Posted 27 October, 2019 Posted 27 October, 2019 Don't like many of the comments here. Valery is a young player. They are notoriously inconsistent - which is exactly what he has been. In a better squad, he would be given more time to develop. In our squad, he plays a lot because the squad is weak. That is not his fault. The Manager had taken him out the firing line and alluded to why a couple of weeks ago...and then Cedric got injured. He has few good senior pros to look after him (Fonte, S.Davis, Tadic etc) and give him advice. That is also not his fault. I have seen him have very good games, against good teams. He has ability. How many 20 year olds start in defence every week in the PL? Very few. Valery is the type of player we, as fans, should support not slate. He has a chance at Saints to be part of a good team in the future. Don't judge a kid amongst crap.

I'm sorry but he was on the pitch and he wasn't just being inconsistent, he was a complete liability. He deserves his criticism.

Can those who were at the game comment if at any time did a more senior pro go to him at all? From the TV it didn't look like it. He needed a more experienced player to put his arm around him a bit and help him calm down.

I agree with most of that, he does show signs at times of being a good prospect, but some of his errors on Friday were schoolboy inexcusable.
jasoneuelllfanclub Posted 7 January, 2020 Posted 7 January, 2020 Anyone know how his recovery from the awful "virus" is progressing? Sent from my SM-A320FL using Tapatalk

OttawaSaint Posted 7 January, 2020 Posted 7 January, 2020 What a shame. I really enjoyed his introduction to the team last season. He was a bit raw, but chipped in with some decent assists and 2 goals. Hope he gets another chance and gets back on track soon.
Charlie Wayman Posted 7 January, 2020 Posted 7 January, 2020 Ralph only wants machines it seems. Big engines and huge pistons that get up and down the pitch. JWP is a machine. Cedric is a machine. Hojberg is a machine
Mr Saints Posted 7 January, 2020 Posted 7 January, 2020 Don't rate him at all. We need two new right backs IMO.
Sheaf Saint Posted 7 January, 2020 Posted 7 January, 2020 he is pretty crap to be fair But you're not are you. You're being your usual dismissive and negative self. Valery still has a lot of developing to do, but he has a lot of potential and is not 'crap' by any means.
The Cat Posted 7 January, 2020 Posted 7 January, 2020 He had a personal issue going on around the time he was pronounced as ill by the club before Newcastle away last season and driven straight home. No idea whether his recent absence is related to that or not. Whatever is going on I hope he gets back to fitness soon because although batman thinks he's crap he's actually a good young player who should have a decent career ahead of him.
Baird of the land Posted 7 January, 2020 Posted 7 January, 2020 Really hoping whatever the issue is we get to see him back in a saints shirt relatively soon. Put in some excellent displays for us so far and if he keeps improving he'll be quite some player.
saint77 Posted 7 January, 2020 Posted 7 January, 2020 he is pretty crap to be fair You really are clueless
hypochondriac Posted 7 January, 2020 Posted 7 January, 2020 I'm not suggesting this is the reason at all, but there have been other players out with mystery viruses or other illnesses and sometimes they are serving bans for a variety of reasons. Clyne springs to mind...
Whitey Grandad Posted 7 January, 2020 Posted 7 January, 2020 Post Traumatic Disorder from the Leicester game?
Saint Garrett Posted 8 January, 2020 Posted 8 January, 2020 Had high hopes for him at the start of the season, hasn’t turned out so far. He is however still a kid, and possibly if we do sign another RB, he can go out on loan for the second half of the season and get some games under his belt.
