If he's on the brink then just can him!

Saints brass: listen Ralph if you lose 13 or 14 more times we'll be very cross and have to have a serious talk!

Send him packing now!

That's BECAUSE he's got connections. He literally gave us a blow by blow account of the Gakpo saga on deadline day and was first to report everything including very fine details.

Agreed with that. When we were good we were very good, when we were bad, like now it's as bad if not worse than as anything under Pellegrino. Im kind of left with a feeling of what might have been, for us to be in a very good run we needed everyone playing at the maximum, fit and in form, when one of those pieces isn't at it everything falls apart. Had he had a better, deeper squad then maybe things might have been different. However as a very minimum you need to be hard to beat and score against, in his time here we've been awful at that, easy to score against, no character in the team, repeatedly losing or drawing when winning, terrible goals against record and when things go against us we fall apart and that's down to the manager.

Expand

Not having many top quality players is also an issue. We have players like Bazanu, Perraud, Djenpo, Ely, Armstrong, Armstrong, Diallo and Adam all playing regularly. It feels like the manager is constantly trying to hide weaknesses and find ways of balancing a poor defence and the need for attack. Getting a tune out of them will take some doing for whoever is in charge.

Highly unlikely but I can’t but think that Ralph is just biding his time and waiting / wanting the bullet. He proclaimed his desire to retire in 18 months. He doesn’t look like he is enjoying at the moment and I reckon we are negotiating to get him to early retire for a sum of money less than he would be contractually entitled too.

this would also explain the leaks. The leaks would be pressure to resign as such.

I have always been in the "Ralph In" club in the strong belief that given more time with a decent squad, he would eventually come good. Obviously, missing out on a quality striker hasn't made things easier (it would have been interesting to see what results would have been like if we had signed Gakpo) but things just cannot now go on as they are. Ralph really did look like a dead man walking at the presser....and I felt sorry and guilty at the same time. I think, however, the time has come. I just hope that the club and fans are very fair to him when he does go. He is obviously very dedicated and has lived and breathed this club since he arrived. I think that he now should go but without any vitriol and hatred.

I hated our pathetic display in the semi final & a lot of our hammerings. There’s the odd thing to admire, but “a lot” is exaggerating slightly. Average manager did a pretty average job Forget about Alpine Klopp, Alpine Dave Jones nearer the mark

I'm not sure average describes him, I'm thinking more...eccentric, idiosyncratic, unconventional, bloody minded and so on.

That applies to all managers now a days. These days managers all have their own trendy "identity" and very few of them are ever prepared to change it.

As with him trying to get sacked, I don't think this is the case - Remember he did offer to resign after both 9-0's and his resignation was rejected. With 18 months left on his contract, I can't imagine the compo would be that much anyway and certainly not worth ditching his reputation for (which is still relatively high)

It's very difficult being a dead man walking, under that sort of duress you try to second guess your own decisions and can become paralysed by fear of getting things wrong. I think he probably feels a bit hard done by, one thing you can't accuse him of is being stupid, I suspect he knew exactly what was required to turn us into a competitive team, and very much doubt our moneyball signings got anywhere near that.  That said, there as a strong case for him to go at the end of last season and an even stronger one now. I suspect he will feel a sense of relief when this is all concluded. He has to go, but  I hope we make the right choice in his replacement.

Said it before, his connections come out when the club need some positive media spin put out.

Nothing against the bloke (i like him and enjoy his coverage), but he isn't a good sports journalist. He reports on and is basically a fan of saints (i know he's mainly a villa fan above that).... but whatever he says about saints is from an angle that's either approved by the club or may as well be imo. Don't try to read anything else into what he writes beyond that imo.

I don't think anyobe has really have they? He's clearly got connections though that's not really debatable. He's also been critical of the club in the past. I like him, he's not an investigative journalist but that's not really his job role.

the statement in the Telegraph on no outright first choice - seems a bit worrying - surely this has been on the cards for ages and with the magical black box you would have hoped there is a clear first choice - obviously we might not get them which is what i am hoping they are hedging for

Posted

Well documented that he doesn't have any kind of relationship with half of the players. Ralph is clearly a piss poor man manager.

Disappointed to see Steve Cooper being mentioned as a potential replacement. If that's the best we can do then just keep Ralph. The outcome will be the same with either of them in charge... Relegation.

To be honest no matter what we think of ralph the biggest issue has always been we've not had a good striker since Danny Ings.  The rest cant score in a brothel so while the team is creating chances the strikers arent taking them and JWP's heroics of last season have disappeared so its being exposed more that no one scores.

And yet none of the players we’ve sold have gone on to show any sign of improvement under a different manager. In fact some have shown a significant degradation in performance.

Vest and Bertrand were first choice defenders here, Leicester fans think they’re dreadful. Can’t get into the squad that’s bottom of the table. Ings averaged 13 goals a season for us, I think he got seven last year at Villa. Then there’s a whole bunch of other players who just ended up at obscure foreign clubs or in the Championship because nobody in the PL showed any interest in them.

Calm down. He's not been sacked yet.

If the Telegraph had printed "Southampton have a clear first choice replacement" how do you think that would look? The club aren't going to say that to a journalist are they?

Bertrand has been injured.

Agreed. I’m starting to feel a bit sorry for the bloke (I know he’s going to get a multi million £ pay off, so I shouldn’t), he clearly cares about the club and is clearly a decent enough bloke.

Arguably had the hardest job of any of our managers in recent years and has done an ‘okay’ job, but the writing has been on the wall for a while. He had the added pressure of being massively overrated by many of our fans / cult following ‘ralphampton nonsense etc.’.

I’m sure he’ll get another job and do well elsewhere but I’m not sure he’s the right fit for us at this moment in time.

The second 9-0 was the turning point for him imo. Completely lost his way after that result and ultimately, will be known as the manager to lose 9-0 twice.

I’ll Wish him luck for the future.

Expand

It’s quite possible that by 1700 Saturday he’ll be known as the manager who lost 9-0 three times…

Don’t hate him and not much to admire in last 28 games or 60 points.

Just think gone stale and no idea of best side now and tinkers for sake of it why change central two?
Moussa played pretty well then doesn’t get a minute against Everton plays a 5ft 6 midget.

Tactically last 3 games hoof to Adams v Wolves and Villa no one close enough to feed off any rare he won .
Saturday both Adams and Mara coming short not showing or moving so midfield have nowhere but sideways and back .
Our only light was Aribo.

Clearly has love but now just looks a beaten man.

I disagree, I think the only sources he has are the stories  the club want him to have. I don't think he necessarily has access to any "insider knowledge". If that's what's termed as proper sources than that's fine.

Er, I think the point being made was about how Ralph can't be that bad a man-manager because players haven't noticeably improved when they are free from him.

I don't know what Adam Lallana, Victor Wanyama and Virgil Van Dyke have to do with that to be honest.
