Spurs Away - Train Ticket Trick using Basingstoke...?

Hi Guys.

 

I've just managed to get tickets for the Spurs Away game and I'm about to book the train travel. I think I remember someone saying a while ago that there was a cost-saving trick you could use by getting a ticket to Basingstoke then a Travelcard from there...??? I may be completely wrong but just thought I'd put this in the realm in case someone knows about this [or another option] so a saving can be made by everyone else looking to do the same route.
